Everything from vintage clothing and dishware, antiques to local, handmade art and decor...think 'junktique'. 50+ $tall$ on a variety of floors...allow at least a hour to take it all in ... housewares, tools, trinkets, trains, records, clothes, furniture and fixtures et al. A total theatre experience. The magnitude might seem overwhelming ... take your time. There's a treasure there waiting for you! Not the least of which the Letterpress Museum tucked in the back. The first time we stopped in from Boston we were just about out the door after 45+ minutes. Our friend(?) mentioned a coat on an upper floor that looked like something my wife would wear ... 20 minutes later the coat and wife appeared ...victorious. It has become the go-to arts and crafts party coat. BUiLDiNG CHARACTER is always on the agenda on our stops in Lancaster.

It's hard to explain Building Character. Is it a kitschy thrift store? Yes. Is it a local art dealer. Also yes. Is it someplace you could spend all day and still not see everything? Absolutely yes. If you are anywhere near Lancaster, just make the trip to Building Character. It's amazing.

wonderful for local artists to sell their products. They have everything, from plants, to shirts, to jewelry, and wooden decor. I can get lost in this store from all of the cute finds.

Shopping venue with multiple vignette-type offerings. Too similar to other tourist shopping for our taste, expected more Artisan offerings. Did find some interesting vintage items. Center city location with extremely limited parking.

Big funky store featuring local artists’ work, and second hand/vintage collections. I was amazed by the quality offered here! They had anything and everything you could expect: old records, handmade jewelry, prints, stickers, posters, second hand decor, clothes, ornaments, etc. I loved all the Lancaster/PA-specific merchandise right when you enter! This was the highlight of my day trip to Lancaster!

One of my favorite shopping spots in Lancaster. I pop in every time I'm near. Antiques, homemade goods, just a nice variety of small booths with a lot of character!

This is well worth a visit if you in the area! So much to see, multiple rooms that you could take a few hours meandering through. Everything you could possibly be interested in - vintage items, art prints and paintings, jewelry, wood working, crystals and tarot, dark and macabre items, books, antiques, clothing, stickers, vinyl, crochet, collectibles and memorabilia, and so much more! I loved seeing the hand made wares and all of the cool art. I will definitely be back next time I'm in Lancaster!

What a fun find! It is a great spot to get local artisan goods, one-off designs, and other handmade or repurposed goods. From novelty items, decor, jewelry, clothing, to local humor. At the far end is a small, but worth it printing press museum. Interesting facts, engaging staff, and even some usable presses that are hands-on.
