Karns Foods in Middletown is a great local grocery store located in a historically fascinating old shoe factory. It offers a pretty good selection covering all the staples needed for day-to-day meals, with a very good selection of produce, a full-service meat department that is fantastic, and a nice deli. The store features a great hot bar and prepared refrigerated meals, though the food may not always be exactly fresh. It is fairly quick and competitively priced, with better prices than some larger chains. The store stocks unique items like local products and seasonal goods. The staff is always incredibly polite, helpful, friendly, and personable. While the physical location is a bit older and has a lingering smell, overall things seem clean.
Definitely my go to spot for meats. 40 pound box chicken quarters for less then 30 bucks. Good for summer time bbqs. All other meats are good also fair priced.
