They turned us down over scientifically unsupported evidence. They completely disagree with our vet. No research online suggest an unaltered dog can affect a cat in any way possible. Its funny how they can hold cats in cages but not give any out. Terrible Terrible people.

It’s embarrassing the lengths you need to go just to be able to give an animal a good home. Disappointed in every staff member I’ve spoken to. Calling back to ask a question when you’re making no sense is not harassment. This place does not care about animals, they care about being right.

Very helpful. I have been here a few times over the past couple years to make donations. I recently adopted a kitten. If you fill out an application for adoption, follow it up with a phone call or you may not hear back. I missed an opportunity by not following up soon enough. Otherwise no complaints. Everyone is always super helpful and kind. Donate!!

Begging people to adopt an animal but make you jump through hoops to do so and won’t even let you do a meet and greet and adopt in the same day. Shame on you for turning away a 4 year old girl that just wanted to pick out a kitty for her family.

Very rude staff . The dog I inquired about said she was good with children roughly 7 or older . Said my daughter is 9 and they denied me right there . Told me they would not let me adopt a dog because the one I currently have is not fixed as of right now . And then told me I’m also denied because I can’t show paper works for him as of this moment due to being just rescued and currently waiting on vet . The staff member literally told me she was going to press harassment charges because I called back and wanted to know why I was denied about my child after they told me the first time she was more then old enough . They also told me and my husband because we have a child the dog is to hyper for her . Makes absolutely no sense what so ever !! I don’t appreciate being threatened with harassment charges after you basically belittled my daughter and dog over the phone ! And they wonder why nobody wants to go through adoption anymore ! Somebody needs to fix this place and get a real manager in there and make things right for the poor doggies and family’s who will love them !! She would have been a perfect fit for my family , they are very rude and very ignorant and now as we sit here I can’t help to think what will happen to her sweet face if nobody adopts her !

Brought in a stray dog that we desperately wanted but wanted to make sure someone wasn't looking for him.We were strung along for two weeks with no updates on his vaccinations or anything. Last time we called, they said to call back at the end of the week. The next day after we called, they apparently posted him up for adoption on their website and is now being adopted by someone else.Absolutely devastating and heartbreaking. Why would you do something like this?

Lawrence county humane society is one of the best local shelters, with a great staff and management, who go above and beyond for all the animals in their care. I will always recommend them to anyone looking for a dog or cat.

We adopted a pup from LCHS in September. The staff was very kind and took the time to ensure that the dog was going to a good home. They encouraged us to bring our other dog to ensure a good fit

After reading almost all of their reviews I thought this was going to be a good place. I was sadly mistaken and in my experience the bad reviews were very much so more of a reality than the good.1. I filed an application online through their website. It said they would get back to you the next business day. Two days later I still haven’t heard anything so I called. They said they couldn’t find my application under my name and eventually found it under the dog I was applying for. Being that they say it’s first come first serve I wonder how many other potential adopters have missed a chance because of this. Instead of apologizing and saying they would look into the problem they just said I don’t know how that happened.2. There is bad communication between staff and potential adopters. The first time I called they said the dog I was interested in had a meet and greet Saturday and they would call me Tuesday to let me know how it went and if he was still there to schedule an appointment to come meet him. He was lookin was still there the following week and no one called me so I called Tuesday afternoon. Again they couldn’t find my application so I explained that I had this problem the week prior and you can find it under the dog I was interested in. They took 10 seconds to look at my application and said He wasn’t going to be a good fit. The person I talked to the week before made it seem like I was approved. They gave me no explanation why he would not be a good fit and when asked if I could meet him and explained what the person the week before said to me they strictly said no. They said they would call me back later that same day. It’s been almost a week so obviously they don’t follow up. Every time I called they seemed annoyed to be even talking to someone on the phoneIf you are interested in adopting an animal I suggest you look elsewhere. If you do not fit their ideal/perfect person of who they think should own an animal you have no chance. I don’t understand how you can tell if someone is a fit when you never met them or let them interact with the animal and only take 10 seconds to look at their application. I feel bad for these animals like the dog I was interested in that is still sitting there when they could have went to a loving home but instead are stuck there because no one fits the perfect person the company feels should adopt that animal.

I had two stray cats on their waiting list. I ended up taking 3 male cats in. Jennifer is so kind! She even called to let me know the boys were going to get great homes because they were so sweet. Very courteous and professional.

very rude staff, dont want to even talk on the phone. They made me feel uncomfortable like I was bothering them. They turned down a litter of kittens I trapped and gave no other suggestions but made sure to remind me its animal cruelty if I kept them cages to long. I dont want them caged, I trapped them to remove them from my property and give them a chance at a home. These people need better trained to deal with the sensitivity of working with the public. If I could award 0 stars I would.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. We adopted Harriet Tubman Ross after we had to put our beloved black Chow Chow Leonidas Michael Ross to rest. Best decision ever and the process was done quickly and efficiently. Thanks to everyone there and I recommend to everyone to adopt here.
