Staff were wonderful, but I waited almost 5 hours before I was told they needed to keep my dog overnight and how sick he really was. When he was released, I was told to bring him back next Wednesday for x-ray and blood work. I was told to call the day after discharge and let the doctor know how he was doing. I called from 3 different phones and it kept saying the number was disconnected. I finally found an email and then someone called me back. I was disappointed that when the doctor saw I didn't call, he would have checked in with me.When my dog was there, he was cared for wonderfully.

I took my foster dog Rocky down to PVSEC/Blue Pearl Pgh North on Camp Horne Road to the ER because Rocky was having some neurological issues going on. After talking with Dr. Joey Callum(female) she was telling me how Rocky is not doing well and that the costs of getting him treated and possibly living a good life was slim to none and she immediately said that he needed to be put down. PVSEC/blue pearl is a money making racket or a place that who always wants to immediately put an animal down. I had another dog that I took there a couple years back and they said the same thing about her and she lived another year or more because I felt she was strong and she could get thru anything and she did farely well. We had more time with her but if I would have listened to them I wouldn't have because they are so quick to want to put an animal down. Back to Rocky, upon speaking with Dr. Joey Callum(her name should be Callus) she came across to me as someone who is very cold hearted, did not even say she was sorry or anything to have to let our dog go or anything. She comes in the room and I asked if I could speak with her in private, she says you don't want to speak in front of your husband and I said I don't want to speak in front of Rocky about Rocky (dogs understand what people say) she says you don't want to speak in front of the dog, with sarcasm!!! Like he is not important. He is important to us. We went into the other room and I asked her about Rocky's condition and she was telling me about what is happening with Rocky and then in her next breath she RUDELY says I BET YOU WILL NEVER DO THIS AGAIN, meaning foster another animal. Of course at the moment I am vulnerable because I am distraught over Rocky getting sick so quick and he won't make it, so she took advantage of that and said that to me with no respect for me at all. Dr. Joey Callum has no respect for anyone and she has no compassion for the families of these pets they are supposed to care about when you bring your pet there. They see dollar signs when you walk in the door. She is in the wrong business and it shows very much how she does not care for the animals. PVSEC is a very heartless place to deal with!! They have no compassion for people and their pets based on the two experiences I have had with them. Dr. Joey Callum could have been a little more compassionate knowing I am standing there in tears over losing Rocky. This was so sudden and unexpected for Rocky to get sick that we did not expect that he would have to be put down, I took Rocky there to get better. I could not believe she had the nerve to say to me that she bets I will never foster again. How can you be so cruel? What a mean thing to say, here I am just trying to save an animal from being put down because 7 months ago that would have happened if I would not have taken him. How can a Dr. who works around animals all the time be this disrespectful to the families of fosters and adoptive animals? If you feel you have to go to this place in the er and they say Dr. Joey Callum(female) ask for another Dr. not sure if you will get a better Dr since they all seem to be rude there, at least the ones I have dealt with. Their first thought is to put an animal down. They are euthanize happy there. I wish there was an option for zero stars because they don't deserve even one star.

Brought our senior dog here for emergency service on advice from our veterinarian. Reception staff was efficient and empathetic, shout out to Jacob I believe is his name. The veterinarian, Dr Dom, sorry can't spell his last name that starts with a M but he goes by Dom nonetheless, who was amazingly kind, empathetic and very knowledgeable. Sure we had to wait all day and was rough waiting, nearly 9 hours, but is what it is when your four legged kiddo is getting the best care possible. We also had a specialist see her as well. Was a long day but the staff was so amazing and comforting in times of extreme stress. Thanks to the staff here. For emergency care, this is really the best palace to go. Yes there are a couple options, very few and miles apart, but this is the best option.

I have to update my previous five-star review of the PVSeC staff who was so attentive to address the prescriptions given for my dog. After almost five days, the problems with diarrhea continue, and we are still waiting for an appointment window with his regular vet so we can get an antibiotic. Arriving at PVSeC for the emergency visit, I reported the dog had gotten loose in the woods and ingested material that made him vomit. This was followed hours later by projectile diarrhea. At PVSeC he was not given fluids to ward off dehydration; the $63 Endosorb prescription is worthless, it has not controlled his diarrhea at all. (I've had similar "non-results" with Endosorb for my other dog). The dog was already on a probiotic, but I was given two more probiotics to administer - one by tablet, one by liquid injection into the mouth (the $65 "Proviable-Forte" kit). He should not have to be on a bland diet for five days, but that is where we are. I have gone so far as to ask my dog-owning neighbors if they have any extra Metronidazole antibiotic tablets on hand - their (and my) dog experience is that it works quickly every time. I will be asking my regular vet for that prescription!

They take your pet and keep it for hours and won't let you see it or be with it. This is logical if its in actual surgery, but to do this just for examinations is ridiculous, never again!! Prices are high too!

Let me clarify that the doctors are good at their jobs and will do what they can to save your pet's life and provide the best treatment. There needs to be a way to make the cost of the care affordable to all. I was lucky to have credit cards available to assist me but many minimum wage workers could not afford life saving treatment. What does a pet owner do at that point? Just let their pet die right there in the parking lot? This was a thought that has ran through my mind for the last few days. $800-$1000 being the minimum for emergency care is the rent/mortgage payment for many people. I don't know the answer but what is being charged now isn't the way.

My dog Olivia was a patient at this facility for over 7 years. She bounced around neurology and ophthalmology and emergency for over 7 years - with ophthalmology being her main visits upwards of 6 times a year if not more. Olivia passed away rather suddenly, and I will NEVER forget the kindness of Dr. MacKillop in Neuro the following day who personally called me to offer condolences after only having seen Olivia ONE TIME - a month earlier on a consult and to perform an MRI. I was so touched by that. If anyone would have called I would HAVE THOUGHT it would have been her opthomologist who she saw upwards of 25 times thru the years. Dr. MacKillop is incredibly kind and compassionate. - he is 5 stars. I so highly recommend him and Chelsea in Opthamology is EXCELLENT as well.

You never want to end up in the emergency vet with your pet, but if you find yourself in that scary position, I would absolutely recommend Blue Pearl/PVSE. Dr. Marino was extremely kind and compassionate as she delivered devastating news about our 9 year old. He was well taken care of during a nearly 12 hour visit and the Doctor was thorough in her examinations and procedures to get us the diagnostics we were desperately seeking. They even referred us to their on-site oncology team for a consultation and potential treatment. You are going to run up a large bill for the services, but the care your pet will receive here is well worth it. I hope to never need emergency care for a pet again, but if the need arises, we will be back.

I'm thankful that PVSEC has always been there when I had a pet emergency. Seeing your furrrbabies in pain and having to make life decisions on their behalf is a heart wrenching. The staff has always been compassionate, knowledgeable and respectful to me and my family. PVSEC is the best!
