Super rude staff, they make you feel like you're an issue once you walk in. I'd recommend going anywhere else unless you want to be scrutinized

Avalon Exchange has a great staff who is very knowledgeable about vintage clothing and fashion trends. The store is consistently stocked with great items for fair prices. This is one of the best places to buy and sell clothing in Pittsburgh!

The BEST place to thrift in Pittsburgh. I never walk out without a handful of new clothes and a smile on my face. All the employees are SO nice :)

Avoid these thieves like the plague: We brought in a bag of men's clothing including an expensive leather jacket that were in pristine condition, only worn several times, and from top designer names. After going through the clothing, the clerk said she was interested in buying them and to leave them there so they could be examined more carefully. She assured we would receive a call back in 40 minutes with a quote to purchase. After waiting an hour, we called back and were told to come back later for the quote which wasn't ready yet. They refused to quote a price over the phone. As it was close to closing time and we couldn't get back there in time, we let the clerk know we would come by the next day and get the quote and then decide if we wanted to sell. When we arrived today, less than 24 hours later, the clerk quoted a paltry price of $36.75, representing 25% of what they will sell the clothing for at the store. Their website, checked today, clearly says they pay 30% for a direct buyout. When we pointed this out they were nasty and unaccommodating and said "that's our policy". We decided we'd do better donating the clothing to someone needy who could use them and taking a tax deduction instead. When we asked for the bag of clothing back, they claimed it was lost and they couldn't find it because we had kept it there overnight, despite the fact we'd called and told them we wouldn't be able to come in until the next day and the clerk assured us that was fine. The clerk blamed us because the store lost ( more likely stole) our clothing. They said it would take weeks to find the clothing if it already wasn't lost. We had no choice but to pick the lesser of the evils- take their horrible price so at least we didn't donate the clothing to Avalon. I'm sure we'll see the leather jacket in the window with a price tag for over $100 any day now. This review will hopefully help others understand what a lowlife business this is, and how greedy the owners are. I can only hope Avalon Exchange donates some of the clothing that they're unable to sell to the needy as they thrive by false advertising online, lying to customers, making a buyout as difficult as possible, and cheating sellers with ridiculous low prices, while turning the merchandise around for outrageous inflationary pricing. There are far better ethical shops in town where one can spend their money.

This place is really confusing. I brought a bag of quality clothing to sell Avalon, all pieces were practically new condition, and yet, they passed on all of it. In contrast, their store is filled with overpriced clothes that are worn out with holes in them, as well as brands that are not recognizable. I don’t understand their business model or aesthetic and would not sell clothes nor frequent as a shopper in the future. I’ll take my business to vintage stores in Bloomfield and sell my clothes online.

Kayla is absolutely one of the greatest people I've met at Avalon! The location is perfect to go and grab a bite to eat after shopping. The clothing they put into the store is very nice because anyone will be able to find good quality items. The store is clean and sectioned off in a way that makes shopping easy for customers. :)

Upon first entering the store, my friend and I were very excited to browse around. However, one of the employees stepped on my friend and then gave her the most disgusted look and expression. My friend is a polite person, and even apologized, despite being the one who got stepped on. She was simply looking at clothing, and doing her one thing. The look of disgust from the employee lasted for a while, she even made eye contact with myself and she looked deeply offended. The look was incredibly hurtful and out of place. My friend obviously felt very uncomfortable and we had to leave. It was very rude. The employee then proceeded to talk about my friend to her coworkers right in front of us. Not a pleasant experience in the slightest, and my friend should not have been treated in such a upsetting way.

Went in with a friend to look around and within 2 minutes I knew I wouldn't come back. I was walking around and the items were very expensive but what ruined it for me is when I was walking by a rack looking at items when the pink-haired employee took too many steps back and bumped into me. When I went to apologize she gave me a look of disgust that was like pure hatred that I was existing at that moment. I didn't think I needed to announce myself since there was plenty of room between us but it seemed she expected me to. Not only did she hit and step on me when she fell but she never apologized and instead went immediately to gossip with her employees. I know this because I heard them. If the customer service is like this when people make mistakes I can't imagine if you are actually speaking with them.

This is a cool spot for vintage, designer, and modern clothing and accessories in the heart of Squirrel Hill. Friendly staff and good vibes. There is something for everyone, so stop by if you're in the neighborhood.

This is THE store to go to!!!! If you haven’t been, you need to now! They are the friendliest, most kind and helpful staff in the business!!!! I know good customer service when I see it, and it’s not always easy to find today… but EVERY time I go in to this store, I’m greeted with a warm smile and helping hand. You can tell the staff here cares about its customers! PLUS you will find fun unique pieces that are priced great- do you believe me now when I say you must check this place out!!!! Run don’t walk!

My wife and I popped into Avalon Exchange on our recent trip to Pittsburg. We loved the vintage selections and loaded up with some great bargains. The store had some great quality gear and we plan to check out their sister store in Winter Park soon.

Honestly so disappointing. Not sure what is happening to Avalon. I have bought and sold here for 6 years, but prob won’t be back. The store is going downhill.Buying- nowadays not much better than a thrift store. They used to carry more name brands and the quality was better curated.Selling- sellers beware. they took 2 hours and didn’t want any of my items today. To give you an idea of what they didn’t take- I brought currently popular denim that runs $75-$110 retail, and currently $45-$75 on poshmark. I've sold good quality clothes here for convenience instead of doing online resale. Understand that they can be picky, so I try to only bring stuff I think other people would buy. I honestly thought Avalon would take most of what I brought today. I offered to give them my worn once Birkenstock leather arizonas for free just to see if they would take them, but they said they declined. They declined everything, citing that the store is full. It makes sense that the store is full, a lot of the selection is thrift store equivalent but more expensive. Judging from the recent reviews people are having bad experiences here.

Avalon has been a mainstay of the Pittsburgh fashion scene for affordable yet fashionable clothing for all ages. I have bought many cool things throughout the years and always look forward to checking out their latest arrivals. Check them out!
