Called for some advice, pretty set on having him fix my violin. Made me feel d*** and was super cranky. Going elsewhere. Not a good way to get business.

I stopped by many years ago only once and never went back. He was not friendly, and told me that I probably couldn't afford him without knowing anything about me.

I visited Phillip's shop after visiting another shop in Pittsburgh. The service and the and communication was excellent. I had high expectations when going back to pickup my violin. My expectations were surpassed 10 fold. I would highly recommend this violin shop. Many thanks for the service.

I’ve always been interested in a cello, so I stopped in here to check them out. Someone named Nick was working there- the shop repair man. He helped me out a lot and gave me great advice for shopping for a cello. Would recommend this shop!

Philip is so helpful and friendly, his dog is the cutest store greeter/mascot, and my professor and I love the bow I bought from him. Highly recommend!

If I could give a 0 I would. I visited the shop interested in pricing a violin and I guess he thought I couldn't afford the violins and expressed that I should know that his violins start at $400 without even first suggesting that I make an appointment with him about what I might be looking for.

My 13 year old daughter needed a Violin a step up from a cheap starter Violin... Phillip was very welcoming and willing to help us! We had a great experience at his shop! He sold us more than just a Violin... he sold us on his passion and experience!

I got my cello back from Phillip Injeian's shop and I can't believe how great it sounds. He fixed several problems that I was not even aware of or did not know they could be fixed. I had a wolf tone, for example, and now it is nearly gone. Phillip has amazing experience, very special training, and the work he does in incredible. The instruments he builds are amazing, world class instruments, and he has built new instruments for some of the world's best musicians. Not only that, but if you ever get a chance to tour the shop, it's a real treat, so much to see there.

So you know not everybody loves their doctor or lawyer personally. I go to a doctor because he can cure what ails me and Phil is the guy you go to to fix your Strad. I've known Phil for ten years and as a professional cellist, he has done the best adjustment on my Italian made cello I ever had from any luthier. Many colleagues say the same thing. I've seen him magically change an instrument from so-so to something remarkable. He has a shop full of wonderful instruments that range from beginner to concert artist. His own instruments are also represented. I did eventually switch to an Injeian and have enjoyed playing it. His shop in the cultural district is a cultural venue in its own right! Because he makes fine violins from scratch like a great chef.

I've been searching for a new violin for 8 months now. I wanted to try out Phillip's violins as well as some others he had in his shop. My first interaction was with one of his workers (Rebecca? Rachel?) and I had a very pleasant time talking with her...no attitude, ego, narcissism. Shocking! I would go back there if she were the owner. But she's not. Read on. Now, it seems pretty standard for shop owners to have a little narcissism going on. They are, after all, salesmen and are selling a product that is akin to a child or a pet. They love their violin children and want you to love them too. That is why I am ok putting up with a little self-important banter from the owner. However, Phillip is uncomfortably narcissistic. I learned more about what made him great than what makes his violins great. Here's just a sampling of Phillip's favorite sayings: "I speak 12 languages fluently." Why does this have anything to do with me buying your violin? If I'm interested in language lessons, I'll consider you first, buddy. "Name one shop owner who gets the sound I get out of a violin! You can't give me one. I'm the only person around who does everything. I play, I build instruments, I make repairs. I've studied with the best teachers (he proceeded to give me 5,762 names of his closest string friends who all think he's awesome)." All these things are probably true. But I didn't enjoy his playing, so he fell a little short on that one. "I'm about to give you the best advice you'll ever hear...don't have your teacher help you find a violin. Pick your three best friends instead and have them give you their honest opinion. Your teacher is just in it for the money he gets from the shop owner when you buy the instrument he wants you to buy." Wow. Glad you know my teacher so well. And when did broad brushing a certain community of people become such a logical way of promoting yourself and your product? Phillip's product is probably good, and the price tag is decent considering the 40-50k price tag other modern makers put on their instruments. However, I can't trust someone who doesn't seem to trust his own product enough to let it stand on its own apart from all his "Me, myself, and I" garbage he throws around. I am reminded of this clip from comedian, Brian Regan entitled "Me Monster." Enjoy!
