We were sat in the back by the bathroom so private but also kinda weird. The waitress often didn't bring things to the table without reminder, example: got wrong drink, sauces, and the main dish took about an hour to get to the table. The main dishes were bland and not very good. The mocktail list was nice.

Food and wine were good. Coming from someone very picky, the charcuterie board was good and I ate everything on it. Service was okay. It didn't seem like they had many people working in the kitchen so food was a little slow. I recommend going there for a date night.

The place is super cozy and very romantic. The wine is delicious and the food is good. The service is out of this world. We dined there on Valentine's Day they had a prefixed menu. I would like to try the daily menu for a fair review on the food!

The wine tasting experience was excellent. Our server was wonderful and so knowledgeable about the wines. They were able to accommodate us with a gluten allergy with the cheese board. Highly recommended the tasting experience for a special occasion or something fun to do. The wines were delicious!

This restaurant has to be a front for something else, because no self-respecting restaurateur would ever serve the wine or food that this place serves. The "wine list" is absolute amateur hour. All of these 4/5 star reviews must be made by people who have no idea what wine is. They must think of it solely as alcoholic grape juice. The wine list does not even mention where the wine is from, the vintage of the bottle, etc. It's awful. It's like a wine list for small town yokels or something.Next, the food ... frozen, inedible, horrible. Sorry. It sucks. The service was okay. Our server was nice. The ambiance felt like sitting in a wood-paneled living room from someone's house that was last updated in 1982.

Our waitress, Olivia, was fantastic for our group of eight old college friends! She was friendly, allowed us time to gab while we had drinks before ordering, and did not rush us out after we were done eating. The ambience of the Wine Cellar on Penn could not be any better! And the food and wine were delicious!

A family owned winery in the strip district that actually has the children’s names marked for some of their wines (e.g., Fiona, Margaret). Their wine variety is great, from very dry to very sweet, and their holiday wines (can be warmed up) are excellent. You can sample a few before you buy, and the staff is very nice and knowledgeable. On the weekend they are on the corner of Penn and 21.

Our server was excellent! He was friendly and extremely helpful. We had a few dietary restrictions and the attention to detail he provided and care given to ensure our meal was correct and enjoyable was refreshing and appreciated. The kitchen was accommodating and the food was excellent.

Our food was fantastic! However, the service was terrible. The waiter forgot to put over $40 worth of apps and when asked where they were got annoyed with us and said “I forgot to put them in” he didn't care at all. We were never asked if we wanted more drinks, never asked how our food was, never asked if we wanted dessert so we paid and went to Papa J's which had fabulous service and dessert's!

Night out with friends and had an awesome table in a back room but near the bathrooms. Our server Wendy was excellent. Food was just ok. Nothing terribly wrong but nothing really great. Probably better for drinks and appetizers than dinner.

Hidden gem located in the Strip District. The wine is local, affordable, and good. And the food is exceptional.

It was a wonderful experience. The fried ravioli were delicious, the service was excellent, and it was a wonderfully intimate setting. My husband, his friend, and I enjoyed the time we were there (even though we had to leave because of the air quality). We will definitely be going back sometime and enjoy our time a bit longer.

Went here for my birthday, and absolutely loved it - they even gave me a free glass of bubbly to celebrate! The food was incredible and I really appreciated that they included wine suggestions with your meal. They seem to have a very small but mighty staff, so I get the feeling maybe some of the bad reviews are from folks who never worked in service, because these kids HUSTLED. 10/10 service, and it's clear this is a super small family business. We love supporting local, so we'll definitely be back!

The Pittsburgh Strip District has an amazing variety of old style markets, street vendors and restaurants. I visit that area when I am in Pittsburgh and have made the Cellar on Penn my go to spot for a glass of wine and escape from the hectic streets. Because it is not on the steeet level, I do not think most people can imagine this hidden gem only a few steps down. While I have visited several times, I still feel the surprise of an European wine cellar at the bottom of the steps. The food seems to change with the season - and I like that. Jay my server was so much fun and informative. I was served a few free samples before I decided on the Sangiovese. I will come back before the holidays for the hot spiced wine before the holidays.
