In town for a business trip. Looking for a special gift and drove across town to this unique shop. EXTREMELY discourteous staff.

So delighted that I wondered into Scribe. This shop has the most exquisite and unique pieces of art and stationary. I purchased a Bernard Maisner lacquer box with a dragon and a gorgeous orange plate with gold cheshire cat. The stationary...especially from Maisner is beautiful and nowhere else to be found in Pittsburgh. Sara's taste is exceptional!

I had a very unpleasant experience with the owner of Scribe today. I entered to ask about a wedding guest book/ thank you notes. She tried to sell me a wedding invitation etiquette book- when I asked whether she thought the book would be worth it given my wedding is in a month and I've already sent out invites, she asked who helped us with invitations. When I told her we had to get our invitations online due to COVID (which were beautiful and perfect for our now small ceremony but also would have been beautiful regardless), she sighed loudly, said that "my generation" doesn't view marriage as a meaningful contract, only as a "big party". All I could do was laugh in disbelief. She then asked why my mother (who is in another country and now can't even attend my small ceremony due to travel restrictions) didn't guide me on the appropriate wedding etiquette. I would just like to point out to her that different cultures have different traditions. A wedding invitation is ultimately just a piece of paper- it is the marriage that counts. For someone who thinks our generation doesn't take marriage seriously, she sure does put a lot of value in material things. Completely unpleasant experience and so while she deserves a star for beautiful merchandise, I would not recommend this store to anyone who values kindness and humility. Being passionate about your work is not an excuse for being rude.

My fiancée and I recently had a bad experience with Scribe, particularly owner Sara Hargreaves. We had reached out through the contact form on the Scribe website to request information and schedule a meeting to discuss the possibility of Scribe handling invitations for our wedding in July 2020. We told Sara we were looking to start a conversation about her services and provided our availability. She agreed to meet with us. However, before our meeting, we were surprised to find a local company with a personal connection, which we very much liked. When we reached out to Sara to cancel our appointment, she responded as if we had made some formal agreement, claimed she would have to cancel plans with her designers and printers, and said she would have to charge us $50. We had never made any agreement, nor would we have made such an agreement (if she were serious about this, wouldn't she have requested payment information when we scheduled our meeting?). In addition, there was no text mentioning such a charge in any of her communications, or on her website. After informing Sara that we would not pay the charge, and wanted no further contact, she has continued to send us invoices, increasing the charge each time. After her third invoice, we reported her to the Better Business Bureau and posted a review on Wedding Wire, but it was taken down because she filed a complaint with the website. Given this unprofessional behavior, I would not recommend this company.

Beautiful store with wonderful staff! We got our save the dates and wedding invitations from Scribe. The owner, Sara, was very helpful, caring and accommodating. She truly cares and wants what is best for each couple. She provided her expert opinion but was understanding if we chose a different option (color, wording, style, etc). Sara informed and reminded us of sales so we could order at the best time to save money. She kept us updated on our order and was very quick to respond to a call or email. I recently purchased non-wedding related products and she was very accommodating and helpful with that as well (sending me an email of product description and opening the store for me at a time it was normally closed). If you want top notch service and products, check out Scribe!!

You're better off shopping on Amazon so you won't have to deal with the owner's attitude. Most of her stuff is on there anyway

I'll settle for 5 Stars but a constellation would be a more accurate measurement. Scribe is Pittsburgh's jewel in the crown for purchasing stationery for every occasion, finding keepsake cards, and locating one-of-a-kind gifts and antiques; treasures guaranteed to become conversation pieces. Every item in this elegant boutique is top-shelf. And customer service is never less than attentive, gracious, and informative. In today's do-it-yourself/self-service world, Scribe is an oasis. You can always rely on the expert knowledge and guidance of Proprietress Sara Hargreaves. And Special orders are a breeze. Within a few days of selecting my Crane & Co personalized note cards I was notified that they arrived. Scribe stocks a stunning assortment of boxed cards and singles with new arrivals surfacing on a regular basis. One card in particular that I bought for friends prompted them to display it in a Tiffany frame on their Art Deco coffee table. The card features a West Highland Terrier photographed by Charlee Brodsky accompanied by a quote from William Shakespeare. Over the past five years I've most assuredly bought every style Scribe carries of the boxed "Thank You" cards by San Francisco's Paula Skene Designs. Sara's store is my go-to-place for locating a gift for the man, woman, teen, child, or infant who has everything. An antique set of hand-carved jade Foo Dogs and a vintage Tom Thumb child's typewriter in mint condition were smash hits last holiday season. Lest I forget, the Special Events hosted at Scribe are among Pittsburgh's best kept secrets. The topics are fascinatingly interesting and the speakers are beyond eloquent. They attract a very eclectic group of individuals and bons vivants. One of last year's presentations featured Rabbi Aaron Bisno of Rodef Shalom Synagogue. Rabbi Bisno was invited to speak on the subject of sympathy letters and notes of condolence. In an era whereby emails, texts, tweets, and Snapchats are rampant, it was a refresher course on the invaluable significance of the written word on paper. In essence, Scribe is a kaleidoscopic experience. You are missing half a lifetime if you haven't yet shopped there.

I recently ordered invitations from Scribe and I was not only pleased but also VERY impressed! While planning my son's wedding, someone suggested Scribe and I decided to schedule an appointment. Once I entered the boutique it was obvious that the owner, Sara, is passionate about her work and that Scribe offers the most exclusive invitations and paper-related products. I truly appreciated the unique selection of stationary and the wide variety of materials to chose from - All excellent quality. As the owner of Scribe, Sara is personable, professional, intelligent and detail oriented. I would consider her a perfectionist, which is one of the reasons I will return to Scribe in the future. Regardless of your style, budget, or the occasion you are preparing for, I assure you that Scribe will meet your needs and exceed your expectations.

I recently ordered our "Save the Dates" from Scribe and they are the most gorgeous cards I have ever seen. Sara - the stationer at the store was incredibly helpful throughout the whole process. She showed me every single option from many different designers and walked me though all of the information I would need to order the letterpress cards of my dreams. I plan on going back to her for ordering our wedding invitations and have also ordered business cards and stationary for my partner from her. He loves the cards we received. The quality of the stationary she carries is very high, and she has great relationships with letterpress studios that produce exquisite work. Sara is the person to go to if you want the very best. The culture of the store is all about the beautiful tradition of stationary and printing. It can be intimidating to many people, but if you know what you are looking for and have an eye for great quality Scribe is the place for you.

I've been into Scribe a few times when I've been up north visiting family and it's perhaps one of the most beautiful stores I've been in ... like ... ever. There's a huge amount of product, but it's not overwhelming. The products are also well-curated by the owner with national lines like Rifle Paper Company and Bernard Maisner, but also local items from Klorebel and the like. Stop in if you're in Shadyside or make an appointment. It'd be my dream to have them do custom work for me as it's all beautiful!

It seems that to be really welcome in this shop by the owner you have to fit in a certain standard: look rich and snob. I have been kicked out really fast because i only wanted envelops because well I am sorry but I made myself the invitations for my wedding. This person was simply rude to me.

Scribe is such a delightful little place to step into and have your every dream of letter pressed cards and invites come true. Not to mention the prettiest gift wrap you can dream of - need a wedding gift to be a work of art? This is your place. Want your wedding invites to stand out? Come to Scribe. Personally, I just love the quirky cards for every occasion, but what ever your fine paper needs you will find them here. For me, it is a must every time I travel to the PIttsburgh area.
