Placed an order online. Super prompt shipping and communication. A unique, vintage item that the store seems to have a real knack for. Sara included a charming handwritten note with the most beautiful penmanship. An all-around delightful experience.

I originally left a 2 star rating without a review, however, following the owners snarky response to my rating I decided to reassess my score and write a full review. TLDR: I think the owner should close the store to the public and only work by appointment, as she doesn't seem to want the general public visiting her shop and doesn't seem to have the customer service skills to deal with them, as evidenced a number of recent reviews saying the same.
We were introduced to this store by an A-Frame sign on the corner of Walnut and Filbert advertising "Stationary, Gifts, and Antiques." We followed the arrow to this shop and saw the sign on the door limiting the store to 3 customers at a time. Weird, but fair enough. We open the door, and before we could determine the amount of customers already inside we immediately heard a woman yelling about not having the capacity for both of us and one of us would have to leave and/or go outside.
One of the existing customers stepped outside (thank you) and we were allowed to browse. The store is very small, with very limited walking space, and has a very small selection of gifts, antiques, pens, and inks, as well as a larger selection of stationary. I don't recall seeing any prices listed for the former collection of items, however there are a number of signs telling you to ask for help before handling items so I couldn't look too closely. We browsed for a minute before leaving.
We didn't get custom cards or stationary here. If we had, maybe they would have been great. We simply stopped in on a whim based on the A-Frame advertisement for stationary, gifts, and antiques. Based on the owners response to my review and many other owner responses on this page, as well as the verbiage on her website, she is not interested in the public stopping in on a whim, she simply wants to take appointments. So why advertise on a street corner, pointing the public to your shop with a big arrow? If I may recommend a new sign, something like "Custom Invitations, Cards, and Stationary. Appointments Recommended" would align more closely with how you seem to want your store to function.
My original 2 star review was due to the small size, limited inventory, and partially misleading sign, along with the fact that there was little of interest to me in the store. We didn't interact with the owner much at the time, however her initial yelling about the rules was off-putting. However, seeing her response to my review as well as other recent reviews, I simply can not recommend this shop.

Very nice stationary items. I've been here twice, both times were unpleasant because of the very rude customer service by the same person working there. I never asked about ordering anything, I was just browsing for inspiration. But of course, the person working there never asked, just assumed.

Horrendous customer experience. Avoid at all costs. The woman didn’t even look up from her phone when I walked in and proceeded to insist that I was “late” in ordering stationary for my wedding. Had she let me get a word in I would’ve told her I already ordered mine and was just browsing for fun, but her tone was pretentious and remarkably rude. I was actually astounded by her. Pamphlet that she insisted on giving me to schedule an appointment with her was immediately trashed. Browsing or not, I will never be setting foot in here again and will be telling my friends & family about this experience. 0/5.

Avoid! They stopped family from coming to the store because they have limits up to 3 people. They counted infant in the carrier? what a snobby place!

This was one of the worst experiences. Brides, avoid this place at all costs. The female working was so rude and pretentious. We asked to see their binder to get an idea of the work they can do and she snipped at us that we did not have an appointment and absolutely cannot do anything on a Saturday (No one was in the shop at the time). She never even offered us any information to make an official appointment. No stationary is worth the attitude she gave us.

Sadly what was once a great store has succumb to cult-like apocalyptic COVID hysteria. It's sad to feel uncomfortable around terrified souls in what was once such a cool place to shop for fine stationary only available in e-commerce shops

Sara helped me find my new favourite notebooks ever. Not only is she super knowledgeable about her stock, she carries a nice variety of price points, and was able to recommend a dotted (!!) notebook with nice enough paper that fountain pen ink didn’t bleed through (!!) which I have NEVER been able to find. PLUS numbered pages. The entire shop is so beautiful and has so many useful and beautiful things for anyone who enjoys stationary or knows someone who does. Going to get all my notebooks from here going forward, Moleskine and Leuchtturm can’t compare

I was looking for an entry-level fountain pen to journal with. Sara introduced me to the beautiful Kaweco pen that fits my needs as a compulsive scribbler. She was kind and efficient. I liked the pen so much I came back the next day and got a second pen. Sara picked out a lovely purple pen that matched my ensemble for the day. We also talked about the shifting dynamics of small businesses in the area. Again, Sara was charming to talk to and exemplified her expertise in curating an outstanding customer experience unique to shopping locally. I plan to return for stationary and maybe another Pen. ?

Sara was very detailed and accessible throughout all the steps of ordering and designing my wedding invitations. She provided wonderful insight into the process and treated it with such craftsmanship. My invitations feel like little pieces of art and I adore them ? thank you!

I left the owner a detailed voicemail explaining to her why I was giving her one star review. Not only was she incredibly rude by rolling her eyes and refusing to answer questions but she also made sarcastic remarks when I explained that I didn’t know she was located there. She assumed I was from the area and that I should have known that she was there not realizing that I’m a transplant from California. I wanted to shop small and support a woman owned business but truly with the lack of service. I ordered online. Don’t waste you time, the owner is one of the most negative humans I’ve ever met.

In town for a business trip. Looking for a special gift and drove across town to this unique shop. EXTREMELY discourteous staff.

Such a lovely little store! First, I came in to shop for some desk supplies to celebrate a new job. Then, came back to order some custom stationery. The owner, Sara was helpful, kind, informative, and efficient when helping me narrow down my preferences (and manage my decision paralysis) for custom calling cards and notecards. She made what could've been an overwhelming process (luxury of choice!) into a really fun experience. I can imagine that she'd make a more daunting task (ie. anything bridal) an easily managed and well-informed process. I can imagine she probably gives sage advice regarding wedding correspondence etiquette (she's elegant). Sara and her designer were so very timely in their communications regarding my order. Most importantly, my custom items came out beautifully. Photo below. Custom stationery, to be expected, was a little pricey, but Sara is candid and transparent about costs, supply chain, and how best to navigate within your budget. As far as items in-store, she often has sales, so check in on holidays. What a wonderful small business and an asset to our community. In a time where we rarely send physical mail, I think it is very worthwhile to make it special when we do, and Sara/Scribe make it easy to do so.

First, let me just say that the arrogance of the woman that I spoke with was unparalleled. I am a graphic designer and recently designed my own wedding invitations and had them printed on a letterpress. I went into the store to see if they had any envelopes and explained how my printer had an issue getting them quickly. She laughed and said "well that's why you should have came here first. We may have some supply-chain issues but nothing like THAT!" In the age of Amazon and other online retailers where I could have easily ordered the cotton envelopes I wanted. I tried to shop small and support local businesses. I can understand not having the items I needed but scoffing at your customers is unacceptable. Look elsewhere if you want a customer friendly experience. There are several other print shops/stationary stores in the Pittsburgh area.
