My experience at SHAPE TRAINING was really disappointing. While their coaches are professional and passionate, the positive aspects are completely overshadowed by their chaotic management and terrible billing system. Back in August, I faced wrongful double charges on my account, which was a big red flag. Despite my efforts, I was told in November that I would get a refund, but till now, that refund seems to have vanished. My inquiries were almost ignored, sometimes they promised a refund, and other times they claimed it was already done, it is not their issue that I haven't received a refund- this kind of passing the buck and irresponsibility is extremely frustrating. Worse still, when I tried to upgrade my plan, they arbitrarily extended my contract by an extra two months without my consent, and this was never clearly communicated to me. I strongly advise anyone considering joining SHAPE TRAINING to think again. The lack of organization and disregard for customer concerns have completely ruined my experience here. When choosing a fitness service, transparent and responsible management is just as important, and sadly, SHAPE TRAINING fails completely in this respect.

Oh, I know just the personal trainer for anyone. I had the pleasure of working with a personal trainer named Marty, and he is truly well-rounded. Not only is he incredibly knowledgeable about fitness and exercise, but he also has a deep understanding of nutrition and overall wellness. He takes a holistic approach to training, considering not just your physical goals, but also your mental and emotional well-being. I am approaching 70 years of age in January and was introduced through my daughter in her 30s.Marty is skilled in various training techniques and can tailor workouts to your specific needs and preferences. Whether you're looking to build strength, improve flexibility, or lose weight, he can create a personalized program that suits you perfectly. He's patient, supportive, and always pushes you to do your best while ensuring proper form and technique. What sets Marty apart is his ability to motivate and inspire. He genuinely cares about his clients' success and goes above and beyond to help them achieve their goals. He's a great listener and understands that everyone's journey is unique, so he adapts his approach accordingly.I highly recommend working with Marty or any trainer at Shape Training if you're looking for a well-rounded personal training that will not only help you achieve your fitness goals but also empower you to live a healthier and happier life overall.

I worked with a personal trainer at SHAPE for 2 years before striking out on my own. In that time, I went from a complete beginner who never touched a barbell in her life to feeling like I could consistently squat and deadlift with good form. My coach, Taylor, was very supportive and encouraging but would also push me to do my best and work hard. Overall, a great experience for someone who is new to fitness or wants to build good habits and learn how to lift safely and with a good technique.

I highly recommend Shape , I train twice a week with Coach Geena. She is absolutely amazing!!! She pushes and motivates me throughout my workout. I love that she incorporates Yoga in the warm up and cool down. My flexibility and strength have improved since training with her.

Excellent one on one training. Trainers are qualified and take the time to tailor routines to the person. Everytime, my trainer finds a way to push me beyond my perceived limits. The group training appears to be very popular and packed. Clean facilities. Clients are from all age groups.

Be careful when dealing with SHAPE training! I wanted to sign up to this gym because of all the good reviews I've seen. However it is not as good as it seems. I went in for my preliminary visit. Everything was going well at first. The trainer was very kind and enthusiastic and she explained how the facility worked and all of the benefits I would receive from joining the gym. She tested me on their machine that calculates that calculates your fat, posture, etc... and helped me come up with a plan to get me to where I wanted to be with my physique which was very detailed. Then we did a basic workout routine to show me what I would be expecting if I was to join the gym. Everything was going well so far.Once all of that was finished, they brought me into a small room where they sign you up. I was told that the gym membership would be 660. I assumed that meant 660 for the entire year. I was wrong. They wanted to charge me 660 per month! They never told me this when discussing the terms with me. So I was unaware of the high cost. I gave them my debit card. Thankfully it declined. We tried it two more times and it declined. Because of that I told them that I would contact my bank and letthem know if I wanted to still sign up later that day and left. I contacted my bank and they declined the charge because it was showing up as a high amount and thought it to be suspicious and wanted to contact me to make sure it was me doing the transaction. I contacted SHAPE back and told them to explain to me why i am paying the full membership fee up front. They told me that I was paying g for 2 months membership up front which would amount to 1320! I was confused and wanted to know why it was so much being that I was told 660 was the amount of membership. She told me I misunderstood them and that the monthly membership fee was 660. I told her that couldn't afford 660 a month for a gym membership and didn't want to continue with them. I thought that was the end of it. I was wrong.2 weeks after this I noticed I was charged 660 from SHAPE! This messed up mebeing able to pay for my other bills for the month of August. I tried contacting them but no one would call me back for almost a week even though they were sending me texts asking me for feedback from my first week of training. I never did one minuteof training since the preliminary appointment! When I finally spoke to someone they told me they would look into it and call me back. A man by the name DJ left me a message telling me they would refund the money to me but because I signed up for it they weren't obligated to do so. I still have the voicemail on my phone. I thought that would be the end of it. I was wrong. On the 15th of this month (September), I was charged again by SHAPE training for 660! I was confused as to how this could be when I was told that they were gonna refund me 660 back in August which i still never received. I had to file a dispute with my bank on this transaction and now I have to wait for this transaction to post in order to file a dispute on this transaction. I cancelled my bank cards to be safe so that no future charges could incur by SHAPE. Do not trust these people! I contacted them and inquired about this issue. The person I talked to said he had to speak with DJ again to see what is going on and asked me what resolution did i want. I said I want the 1320 that they took from me back. He even asked me if I ever did one day of training there and I told him I didn't! They were supposed to call me back this week yet I am still waiting on them to call me back.Beware of this gym! They are very shady and will not tell you the full truth. Do not give them any bank information until you fully understand what they mean by "gym membership". And if you think they will work with you, you'll be suprised at how quickly their nice customer service turns into terrible service. I am still waiting for "DJ" to contact me back. I have called these people multiple times and they keep giving me the run around. I may take legal action

My experience at SHAPE has been nothing short of amazing. The coach I worked with (Truck) was very knowledgeable and provided in-depth insights into the science behind each exercise, making every workout truly impactful. The atmosphere at SHAPE is also a big plus, with a community of athletes who are focused, driven and supportive, and pushing their limits daily. The energy at the gym is awesome. In just a few weeks, I've witnessed significant improvements in my performance and in reaching my personal goals, a testament to their effective program. The value you get for the membership fee (considering that they teach you how to train rather than just “make” you train) is definitely worth it. Overall, SHAPE is more than just a gym; it's a training ground for those serious about reaching their peak. I can’t recommend it enough.

Shape Training is one of the best - hands down. Their workouts are intentional and challenging , coaches are knowledgeable, and members are welcoming!I’ve been attending boxing classes with Coach DJ since fall 2020. DJ and the members made me feel welcomed and encouraged from day 1. I appreciate that the coach takes the time to give feedback/additional instruction and tips when needed. I also love that I can always count on my boxing friends for encouragement when I’m struggling :)I have also attended a few other classes (they offer much more than boxing!), pop-up bootcamps, and events they’ve hosted throughout the last few years. Shape Training is a community you want to be a part of! You’ll leave feeling stronger, a sense of accomplishment, and a part of an awesome fitness community.

Kailen has been an amazing personal trainer for me. I never really liked working out until I started going to Shape. He customizes the workouts to make sure his clients are are focussing on what they want to improve on. For me it was rotation, flexibility and mobility. Kailen specializes in this (anyone who wants to get more powerful in golf, baseball, etc. he is your guy!) He is also very knowledgeable if you have any injuries. We were able to work out through a rotator cuff issue and helped me get back to full strength much quicker. 5 stars all around.

After going to Shape Training consistently for almost a year, I have seen many positive changes in both my physical and mental health. I have become much stronger physically than a year ago, and the trainers care about improving their clients’ overall well being.

I have been going to Shape for about 3 years now. It never gets easier, but I keep coming back! I've never walked in without feeling welcomed, encouraged, and motivated by the trainers and members, and I've never walked out feeling disappointed. There's always an organic mix of individuals of varying fitness levels and goals, etc. but consistently what everyone in the building has in common is putting in the work & getting better. It's a community that I am proud to be a part of.

I originally attended a Yelp Elite event and decided to give training a try. The place has some things going for it, but it has been a rough ride for me so far. Here's the honest scoop:Some of this was my gym inexperience (and my sincere hatred of commitments and sales pitches), but I didn't start out feeling good about this at all. The sales process really puts you on the spot. Delroy had this weird white board/verbal pitch rather than a printed price sheet (which it turns out actually does exist). I had to ask to read the contract before signing, which got me an "are you serious?" look. They also tack on a $39.00 setup fee, which was not mentioned until I handed over my card. Whatever. Then came a little bait and switch. While I don't think this vibe was intentional, and I did come to see the wisdom of them selecting my trainer; it's definitely how I felt at the time. I'd just gone through this whole intro with Delroy and shelled out $$$$ based on that, but then...poof...actual trainer TBD. The scheduling was also sort of misleading. He initially said that they "work with any schedule". After I paid, he frowned a bit at my limited availability. I get it - the trainers have lives/other clients - but I wish I'd known that my desired schedule was pretty much never going to be an option. In any case, I tried to keep an open mind. My trainer, Chelcy, called the next day and proceeded to ask about literally everything I'd JUST covered the day before. Sigh. So I started over. Then after 6 weeks, Chelcy left Shape and I had to start over again (and change my schedule) with Raven. As for the training, I definitely lack the experience/ability to evaluate the technical quality of the programming (hence why I am paying for the service). What I can say is that after a few sessions, I didn't like exercise any better, but I liked Chelcy ok enough. She was consistent and positive even when I was a complaining grouch. I worried a lot initially that she didn't understand my middle-aged, not-very-athletic body. That improved some over time. Raven is also positive and friendly. She pushed my natural range a bit more slowly/intentionally at first, which helped me feel more in control of my movements and less overwhelmed. That feeling went completely out the window with the introduction of the "resilience" phase, though I do still like her overall. We are still working on finding a good balance. In general, all the trainers and patrons here are friendly and encouraging. There is a range of age/ability and no one looks at me 'that' weird while I struggle/cry/complain through each workout. Bottom line, though, is that training is HARD. Modified or not, the sessions are VERY difficult. I suck at everything and form is a constant struggle. If I happen to get better at a task, they just make the task harder; so it's always just hard (as training is supposed to be, I assume). It is mentally and physically exhausting, and I'm sore a lot. They said that would get better, but I don't know; it hasn't yet. As for results, this experiment has been a total bummer so far. My package included a body scan every 6-8 weeks to measure progress. This was a big plus for my analytical mind and I hoped it would show something positive that I couldn't yet see or feel. I got mine at week 10 the results were poor. Really poor. While I was waiting to discuss them with Raven, Delroy happened to come by. I said I was frustrated by the results and he sprang into action. He tried hard to get me to see the small positives (I am developing better habits) rather than the big negatives (the whole gaining fat/losing muscle problem). I was in no mood for this "don't quit" speech and it came off more sales-y/CYA than motivating. By way of explanation, he made three points. One, the first phase is about "readiness" and not necessarily results (translation: I just spent 3 months struggling with the warmup). Two, it must be my diet (ah - the go-to f

Awesome place! I feel so lucky to have this gym in my East Liberty backyard. I started training with Dan Hill at SHAPE in 2021. Before then, I felt intimidated by free weights and hadn't lifted in decades. Dan helped me set attainable goals and wrote a comprehensive plan to help me reach them. I'm stronger now and more confident around a gym than ever before, and thanks to Dan and the amazing SHAPE staff, I actually look forward to my workouts!! Highly recommended!

I have been with SHAPE for many years now. I have watched them grow into the gym that it is now. I have joined a few gyms in my life, but I didn’t use them much or I haven’t stayed with them very long. SHAPE is different. The fact that I am still there after 5+ years makes that clear. Everything about SHAPE, the facility, the classes, personal training, and most importantly the people, are the reasons why I continue to go year after year. SHAPE has made a big impact on my life. As I get older (I’m in my 50s), I can honestly say that I do not feel older. I feel that I am in the best shape of my life and SHAPE is a big part of that.
