Reading Rocks is a local climbing gym that offers a fun and challenging experience for climbers of all skill levels. The staff is friendly, helpful, and welcoming, often providing tips on harness use and climbing techniques. Visitors praise the friendly atmosphere and the affordability of snacks and drinks in the vending machines, which are reasonably priced. The gym provides rental equipment and offers brief instructions for beginners, making it accessible for newcomers. Many reviewers mention that it’s a great place for a workout, team building, or a fun outing, especially for families or groups. Climbing up to 35 feet provides an adrenaline rush and a sense of accomplishment, with plenty of parking available nearby. The gym also hosts programs like Venturing Crew 5.14, which allows teens and young adults to climb outdoors, camp, and learn life skills, even if they are new to climbing. However, some visitors find the layout confusing, with a tape system for routes that can fall off and make route identification difficult. There are suggestions to improve this by color coding holds to help beginners and visitors. The overhang bouldering area has grading issues, with some climbers finding the routes inconsistent or hard to follow. The climbing routes predominantly emphasize big dynamic moves (dynos), which may not suit everyone’s preferences. Despite these minor issues, many agree that it’s great to have a gym in the area, especially since many towns lack climbing facilities. Overall, Reading Rocks is appreciated as a friendly, accessible, and enjoyable climbing spot with potential for improvements to enhance the experience further.
