“Just discovered this gem of a place and thought it was so pretty! I will definitely come back and enjoy a hike and going down by the creek with my kids. Someone said there are also some good fishing spots but I didn't explore enough to know.”
“I found a screech owl standing in the middle of the road during the day, so knew something was not right. I carefully picked it up, placed it in a box with a blanket inside, and brought it to Philly Metro Wildlife Center.
They ask that you donate $50 when you bring in an animal to help cover the cost of taking care of it, which I found to be a small ask. It's also not required at all, so donate what you can, whether it's more or less ?
I was given a case number and was able to call a couple days later to check in on my owl friend. It's nice knowing that you can help an animal to either heal or help it to have an easier death than what was waiting for it in the road. Thank you to the entire animal care team for all that you do”
“Our family has had the greatest experience with Kitty Cottage as foster parents and adoption parents. It is very apparent that they take the greatest most excellent care of this cats in their care.
It is good for the soul to see an organization that cares so much.
We are looking forward to fostering again. ♥️?”
“Everyone goes through hard times and I was sent here when I lost my job. It is like a little shopping store that makes you feel human again and not receiving hand outs . Thank you for helping me and my family.”
“Couldn't be friendlier or more patient. It is first come first srrve- so fillout your papers on line and go right after you see yiur hopeful new family member.
I got the perfect baby boy kitten with shots, neutering, chip...etc. sent home with good instructions snd some food.
Also! Follow up emails.
So happy.”
“This is a really neat organization and place. I got to meet the founder, Fran, who was very hands on. They do in service days where groups can sign up and have a lot of regular volunteers. Their name may be Jewish but they are non-denominational and help everybody they can!!
They specifically provide household, personal care, clothing, and other items to displaced families and those in need. As a volunteer you basically 'shop' for the individuals within a family (they stated it is usually mostly women and children) then box up everything with labels. It is all volunteers - down to even the delivery drivers! We went with a group of about 9 people.
1. Register before you visit.
2. Follow the signs as volunteers park in the back and that is also where donations are accepted.
3. Once you are in the volunteer door, sign in on the tablets to the left.
4. Then you will be directed to hang out at some tables, with the coat rack towards the right of the door
5. You will be given a tour and explanation of what they do and then assigned work!
Everything is clearly labeled and organized. You are split up into smaller groups and they have 'leaders' for volunteers that will provide collection lists, answer questions, direct and confirm. Everything is placed in not-too-heavy boxes and labeled properly. Items this organization donated to families in need include: tooth brushes, pot/pans, socks, pads/tampons/panty liners, shoes/boots, books, toys for all ages.
You feel really really good walking out those doors after your volunteer shift because you gain this connection for those in need as you shop for them. They are super organized and pleasant and honestly I have only more positive stuff to say!”
“This place was a life saver! I got Christmas presents for my 2 boy's a week before the holiday! They came in on there day off to help a bunch of family's! Thank you so much ?”
“It was more than just volunteering for me. I wouldn’t be able to mention all the experiences I had. However, here’s what I’ve got.
I went there as a volunteer in my final year as a teenager. So, it was kind of my teenhood. The memories were precious, with all the silly and amazing things I did with my friends. I feel like it’s something you should experience at least once in your childhood because I never shut up about that year.
It felt like my second home. It was a place that allowed me to be myself without criticism. I found myself being myself, and my household was comfortable with me being so. That meant a lot.
I learned a lot about living with people and life skills. I made good friends. I feel like I became a more wholesome person after that year was over.
It was a very good place that embraced me. I always feel like going back to visit when life starts to roast me or when I feel too much. This place wasn’t teaching me directly — instead, it made me understand things for myself. It was just the perfect place at the perfect time.
Still have more but...isn't it even better if you experience it yourself?”
“I haven't seen smoking bars since pre COVID but walking into this place for the first time to see a metal show and seeing I could have a drink and smoke a cigarette while watching the Phil's between bands was one of my highlights of this past year. Long live the Polish club ??????”
“This Habitat is great! All of the people who work there are really wonderful. It is very large and offers terrific prices and I learned from one of the employees that they are opening and even larger store nearby this year.”
“Excellent quantity of goods and very well organized. The displays make it easy to look at each item without everything being piled up on top of each other. The prices are excellent as well. It's a great place to pick up something knowing that you're making a small contribution to a good cause.”
“We just adopted our new puppy. She spends her first months with Carolynn who did an amazing job. Sissy (ex Dopey) is an incredible girl, well mannered and socialized. My dog and her were already best friends after a couple of days. She has some health conditions which were well explained to us before we made our decision to adopt her. All dogs are taking care by a foster and don’t go to a shelter. We highly recommend them and a huge thank you to Carolynn.”
