My neighbor recommended VCA Smoketown a few yrs ago and we first saw Dr. Shellenberger who was great with my dog, Liam. We moved out of Lancaster and I never switched vets because I love the people there. When Liam had all kinds of GI issues recently, after 3 ER visits, Dr. O’Neill saw us for what was supposed to be a wellness visit. All I can say is that she was meant to be a veterinarian. I don’t know how she maintains such calm, patience and empathy. She spent 45 minutes on the floor with Liam and the second visit came out to answer my questions after his subcutaneous fluids were given. She saw him sitting at the door and said he probably needs to go out so I can walk outside with you guys. She also said she would like to know how he is doing the next day and eventhough she was not working to please contact her. Thank you is not enough to express how grateful I am for the care we’ve received at VCA. Liam is acting like his old guy (almost 12) self again:)

I WAS CHARGED NEARLY 350 DOLLARS FOR THIS PLACE TO MAKE MY CAT WORSE AND CLAIM HE HAS CANCER WITHOUT DOING ANY TESTS WHATSOEVER TO EVEN CONFIRM SUCH A DIAGNOSIS.I brought my cat here to be treated for his eye and the first thing they did was recommend an ophthalmologist, and then they rattled off several different possibilities as to what *could* be the cause including it potentially being cancer, which lead to them suggesting euthanasia, to which I immediately said no to because hello, I didn't even have an actual diagnosis and it's not like my cat was on his death bed, he was behaving 100% normally (eating, drinking, playing, purring, snuggling). Regardless of me saying no, they still brought out a paper with prices to euthanize my cat on it.They told me I'd have some time to think about it and then eventually told me they would take him in the back and give him a trans-dermal pain medication. They also sent me home with some eye drops as well. The pain medication they gave him caused him to go completely off the freaking wall when I got him home. He was slamming his head (aggressively) against everything. He stopped eating completely, he stopped drinking, and he was 100% in worse condition then what he had been when I took him in there. For what it's worth the only warning they gave me was that the pain medication could cause drowsiness...which it also did not, but rather my cat couldn't get comfortable enough to even sleep. He was absolutely WIRED. He also did not want me to hold him, which there has not been a day in this cats 13 years of life that he hasn't wanted me to hold him.I immediately went out and spent almost 100 dollars on cat food trying ANYTHING and everything to get him to eat; which again, he had ZERO problems eating or drinking before I brought him to this place. When I called to voice my concerns they basically said it wasn't their fault and that it was simply his cancer progressing...which keep in mind there were NO diagnostics tests done to even confirm any kind of cancer diagnosis but they were stating it like it was something 100% set it stone. After an EXTREMELY STRESSFUL week, my cat FINALLY started eating and drinking again and is now thankfully back to his post-visit self. Playing, purring, all of it!I will NEVER ever take any pet of mine to this place again. Absolutely insane that I was charged hundreds of dollars to not only NOT help my cat whatsoever but to instead add a horrific week to both my cat and my life.

After having trouble finding a vet office we liked, we found VCA and have been there for years. The vets and staff are fabulous and do a great job making pets feels comfortable. And they have Care plans that help ease getting your pet the care they need at an affordable price.

When I first brought my liver spotted dalmatian to Smoketown we delt with Dr. Shellenburger. He was absolutely amazing. My dog is deaf in one ear and the doctor admitted to not seeing a hearing test before and was very interested in it. Dr. Shellenburger then needed to treat my dog for crystals in his urine at a different appointment and said he was going to do some research on the breed to make sure he is treating him correctly. And then it happened, we had to see other Doctors in the practice. The last visit was the end of the road as it was the 2nd time seeing the same female doctor. My daughter and I have researched Dalmatians more then I should probably admitted. However, we had no choice due to the incompetency of the other doctors in the practice. My dog has terrible allergies and his paws breakout and become completely raw and bloody, they had no clue other then try this or try that. I asked for his nails to be clipped at his last appointment, and I had to finish them when he got home. But of course I was charged full price $17.20 for it. He had a slight ear infection per the "cytology ear" test they did at $69.45, they then gave me ear cleaner that was $25.00 and sold on Amazon for $12.00. As we insisted on doing something more for his paws, ear infection and allergies, the doctor brushed off what we had to say because she was the doctor. But we know our dogs needs and the breeds needs obviously better then the doctor. However, she didn't want to hear what we had to say. It was obvious the way she dismissed our concerns. My dog also has horrible reactions to his vaccinations and must have benadryl first. Which we had to inform them of and they charged me $31.10. He went into the vet because he needed his Vaccines, but because the receptionist (Cathy) was beyond rude she didn't even let me talk when I called and I was charged for an "exam/consultation medical condition" aka, an office visit at $115.00 dollars! And if she would have done a full exam then she would have found the 2 new skin tags he has. However she did not even bother doing her job. They were to busy in the back talking and laughing to take care of their clients. I would never recommend this vet clinic to anyone!! I had to spend even more money for a second opinion and antibiotics. I absolutely DO NOT recommend taking any animal to this Veterinarian!

I just HAD to leave a review for Dr Furey!!! We've only seen her at our most recent visit but I can't stress enough how wonderful she was! Her and the lovely tech we saw, Madi, were so great and gentle with my slightly nervous cat. We cracked jokes and they showered him in so many compliments! They also were able to give great advice for other things he wasn't being seen for. I've never had a bad experience with VCA regardless of provider though! Yes VCA is more expensive than other vets but it's honestly so worth it when you consider how kind the clinical team is & how easy it is to get in the schedule.

We took our dog Bailey here yesterday to have blood work done and get her updated booster! They were really great with Bailey (the veterinarian and his assistant) was amazing too! She is a very hyper puppy and she worked really well with her! I would definitely rate this veterinary office a 5 out of 5! We take our other dog here too and they are always able to fit us in rather quickly! Also, they are priced fair! I would recommend them for your furry friends?
