The vending machines are a scam. I spend a lot of time waiting in the lobby and watch kids lose money in the machine day after day. It doesn't return change. The kids ask the front desk and are told they can't fix it. I have seen kids lose $10 and not be able to do anything about it. The front desk wont help and whoever runs the machine just gets to keep all that money. This has been going on for months and nobody cares. Someone should lease the space to a better company.

I have been to YMCAs for 60 years, starting in Summit and Morristown NJ, Hartford Cleveland Chicago San Jose and Now, State College. I cannot speak to the current condition of all the others, but the State College Y is easily in the best material condition of any Y in my life. Everything seems to have been refurbished or replaced recently, no broken down anything, no roof leaks, no broken tiles or pavement. .is this really a Y? They just finished redoing the locker rooms, new everything as far as I can tell. The Therapy pool is a balmy 90F, which is great for a recent Miami transplant, and the lap pool is a not too shabby 80F. Pickleball seems to have taken over the basketball courts but that is the way of things now i guess. All the resistance and exercise equipment are there, maybe not the best but very functional...and helpful staff nearby. It's nice to what was old is now new.

I’m new to the area here in State College, just trying to get on my feet after a huge life transition.Growing up, the YMCA has always been my safe place — however, this YMCA has made me form a bad taste in my mouth. Each day I arrive and have to sign in manually due to belonging to a different YMCA or when I ask a question of where specific items are, I’m matched with an attitude, eye rolls, comments, or sighs from the front desk. Now this has not happened every time and there are a couple of kind employees here, however I would say 2/8 I’ve interacted with thus far. Not to mention the women’s locker room is down and there is limited privacy / space to change. Parts of the YMCA are not well kept and I have seen dirt / debris untouched for the two weeks I’ve been visiting.I’ve been a part of the YMCA community since I knew how to walk when taking learn to swim classes. I’ve trained at a YMCA nearly every day of each summer to ready myself for national championships and competitions. Sadly, due to the lack of respect and care for welcoming new members here at the State College, brings me to cancel my membership with the YMCA after so long.NOTE: I would like to add that there is an impressive array of machines and free weights for one to use (as well as multiple gyms) which was tough to leave.Hopefully this is only temporary, but as a recent graduate I will find a more affordable and inclusive gym to go to. I NEVER write reviews like this, or reviews in general, but this time I felt compelled to warn others in similar positions like I am.

The girl with blond ish hair and glasses is mean. Everytime I have a question I fell bad for asking but it’s her job so she shouldn’t seem so upset about answering my questions. (It was two times). Also it would very nice if you give monthly text messages or emails saying you will charge us. I have been unable to for a few months and I didn’t know they were charging me every month. That’s so bs and unfair.

I am a longtime fan of the State College YMCA and rely on using it's facilities multiple times every week to keep myself healthy.

The YMCA here is an excellent place for getting fit and they've really done a lot to increase their offerings for children. The staff is helpful and responsive to member needs.

If you have a nation wide membership it doesn't work here they won't look it up for you they don't care. I have been coming here for 2 years I have seen the same hair everyday. 5 people doing nothing out front and no one cares about cleaning or looking up your info. I'm guessing that it's a way to make more money. We'll if they wanted alot of money tell no one to come in for a week no one would notice. It would look the same. If you don't believe me look for dirt alittle out of the way and then see how long it takes to get cleaned. No one cares

I had the worst experience with YMCA. I wanted to register my son for swim lessons. First they asked me to come to fill form, which I did. And they said when the registration open, I should be able to call and register. When called, they asked me to come in person again. Today I went in just to hear that its already full. Please have all your employees on one page. This different information is misleading and created alot of trouble for me

Great, low-key atmosphere with amazing staff. Their support of the community through programs that feed those who are struggling and provide day care for families are heart warming. Love the pools and classes, too!

Wayyyyy over priced for what you get. Men’s locker room and shower area is grimy, gross, and not cleaned very often. Hardly anyone wipes down the machines and staff doesn’t do anything to enforce putting weights/equipment away. I highly recommend finding a different gym this one is not worth it
