Most employees are absolutely wonderful.. until you have an encounter with one of their racist older employees. This time it was the old guy working in the evening. He refused to sell tobacco to a 41-year old woman without her ID, even though he's waited on her numerous times. That's fine. That's Speedway policy, whenever they rarely decide to enforce it. So the woman's 41-year old black boyfriend goes inside with his ID to get the tobacco they both share anyway. He was refused the sale because it was a "third party sale". Um, not if he uses the tobacco product, but whatever. The woman goes home, grabs her ID, and they return 5 min later. As soon as they walk in, both with IDs in hand, the Speedway employee yells at them to get out, pointing to the door and causing a scene in front of other customers in the store. What?! The employee refused the sale (wouldn't even look at the ID) and proceeded to immediately CALL THE POLICE! You cannot make this up.The black male left (ya know.. not safe for a black man to have the police called on them for no reason nowadays) while the woman waited for the police. As soon as the black man left, the employee didn't say a single word to the white woman still waiting in the store. Apparently he only shouts at the black people in the store to get out. When the police arrived, they were confused by the employee's actions, from refusing the sale to the 41 year olds with valid IDs, to immediately calling the POLICE, to his response to the police questions. (When he called the police, they assumed it was a teenager or something since he said a young girl was trying to get someone else to buy tobacco for her. Yeah.. a 41 year old with grey hair and a bum knee is a young girl apparently.) According to what he told police, it is store policy that he couldn't sell to the 41-year old woman (the original purchaser who came back with her ID) until after a waiting period because she tried to get someone else to buy it for her. When the officers asked how long this "waiting period" was, the employee said until tomorrow. Even both police officers thought the entire situation was confusing and a ridiculous waste of everyone's time, and said they wanted to return at a later date and ask a manager what their actual policy is because the employee was clearly making things up as he went. While it may not especially sound as if it was a racial issue, the way the employee treated the only other black man in the store after he called the police cements it otherwise in my mind. A young, black Amazon worker purchasing snacks asked the employee for 2 plastic bags and the employee gave him a hard time about it. The customer asked the employee what his problem was, but the employee seriously lacks customer service skills and ignored him. The Amazon worker then proceeded to tell the employee that if he hates his job, he should just find a new one and that he can't just treat people this way. The entire situation was mind-boggling. Who calls the police on 41-year olds with grey hair and valid IDs trying to buy their own tobacco products?! It even sounds outrageous writing it... Speedway needs to do better. If you're looking for a convenience store, they opened a Rutter's not too far away at Rt 222 (Kutztown Rd) & Long Ln, across from Burger King. They actually have a diverse workforce. They also make food to order, while this Speedway hardly has ready-made food options available.

Late night early morning man on duty was extremely helpful and courteous. He was well versed on the available inside product lines; held a polite conversation, and observed as my fuel was pumped.

This is a great gas station with AWESOME service and amazing, kind, helpful employees!!! They have two machines, one with a selection of slushies and the other with a wide selection of soda flavors. They change the flavors of the slushies so they aren't always the same. There's a wide selection of drinks and snacks as well as coffee and ice. They have an ATM and air machines to fill your tires. They also sell lighters, vapes, and cigarettes. They have public women's and men's bathrooms, both with one toilet. Access to the bathrooms requires a key which is located at the cash register.
