Here's a more detailed breakdown:
1. Rising Operating Costs:
Rent and Utilities: Like any retail business, Goodwill stores have to pay for rent, utilities, and other operational expenses, according to Haven House Thrift Stores.
Wages: Increased wages for employees also contribute to higher operating costs.
2. Increased Demand:
Thrifting Trend:
The popularity of thrifting and the growing interest in sustainable consumption have led to a surge in demand for used goods, according to Yahoo Finance.
Resellers:
Resellers often purchase items from Goodwill and then sell them online at higher prices, notes a YouTube video. Goodwill's prices may be influenced by what resellers are willing to pay, and they may also be looking to capitalize on the resale trend themselves.
3. Quality and Brand:
High-end Items:
Items in good condition, especially from well-known brands, may be priced higher than lower-quality or generic items.
New with Tags:
Even if an item is used, its condition and brand can significantly impact its price.
4. Goodwill's Purpose:
Non-profit Mission:
Goodwill is a non-profit organization, and its profits go towards supporting community programs.
Raising Funds:
Goodwill stores need to generate revenue to fund their mission, which may lead to higher prices compared to for-profit retailers.

Haven’t been to this store in years nonetheless when I visited I never left empty handed! This used to be my absolute favorite thrifting shop!

I went in today and found a few clothing pieces. However, my experience with one of the workers was horrible. I walk in and go to the men’s section T-shirts when and older white woman worker decided to invade my space and almost hit me with a shopping cart she was using to hold the clothes she was putting back on the rack. I moved to the other side of her and she did the same thing again nearly missing me with the cart. I continued my shopping and headed to the check out counter. Unfortunately, it was the same old white woman at the counter. I say hello to her and she flat out ignores me. I lay the clothes on the counter and the first thing she says to me is that I can take the hangers off the clothes… she wanted me (the customer) to remove the hangers. Ive been to this location before and no one has ever told me to take the hangers off the clothes myself. I was pressed for time and honestly i wasn’t trying to cause a scene with a “Karen” because when i get to that level i punch people. I didn’t have time to deal with the white woman victim tears today. I throw the hangers on the counter and she asks for my phone number for the rewards. I give it to her and i don't know if she was being purposefully obtuse but she kept getting the numbers wrong. Shes repeating numbers back to me that don't even sound close to the ones i gave her. It got to the point where I'm yelling my phone number to the entire store because she’s acting like she cant hear me. She rings up my clothes and is throwing them in a pile to the other side of her. Doesn't fold just aggressively throwing them. I don't know what this lady’s problem is. If she hates her job or is actually racist or hates young women or all of the above. Either way, I’m gonna go back and I'm gonna have time for her that day. In my 25 yrs of life ive never made a review on anything, but this lady has me so pissed off that i wrote this whole novel on how rude of a person she is. I hope she sees this and is embarrassed by her behavior. I’ll see you soon boo <3

Second time here, second time I was refused an item due to no price tag. Why is it on the floor if it doesn't have a tag?? The clothing I tried to buy didn't even have the plastic part of the tag, it was simply never processed. I don't understand why they can't either price the item on the spot or just have a flat price for particular items. The cashier was rude and interrupted me several times in our short conversation, more interested in cutting me off than listening to me tell her I didn't want to complete my purchase for the other items that were actually tagged (I really only came for the one thing and can't justify spending the extra if I can't do that).
I won't be returning, digging through miles of unsorted clothing (how hard is it to sort by size?) to find one good item that ends up not being tagged just isn't worth it.

Seems ok for housewares and furniture items, but not much in way of clothing. Not sure if the clothes are super picked through, or just not a lot of donations in this area. The sections were somewhat organized, just not a lot of inventory.

The store seems much more unorganized than before, but it’s kinda like a treasure hunt when you go there. Sometimes you find something great, and sometimes you leave empty handed.

I usually don't have good luck at thrift stores but lately when visiting my in-laws I've found the cutest, vintage plates that were perfect for a party I was hosting. This location is huge and has tons of glassware and tableware. I ended up going back several times over 2 months and was able to collect 47 plates that all looked similar! The mixed and matched scalloped edges on the plates really tied together my vision and made my party feel more Fallish. Overall, way better than some of the locations here in NOVA.

I went to the store today and I wanted to purchase a pair of men’s pants, and there was no price tag. Instead of finding someone to price the item, she refused to sell it to me. Very cold and not helpful cashier.
