Adopting our new family member was an amazing experience! We applied quickly online after going in during normal visiting hours to view available dogs and doing some research on the dogs on their website. We noticed how clean the shelter was and how the staff clearly cared for the animals. We also saw dogs being walked by volunteers, playing in outdoor kennelsand being given treats. We received a call within a day or so to review the application, discuss the dog and to make sure he was a fit for the family. A meeting was scheduled a few days out so that all family members could meet the dog. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Although the shelter was extremely busy that day, we interacted with several professional and knowledgeable employees and volunteers who helped us with the meeting, reviewing med information, completing paperwork, and taking pictures. It was such a smooth process and all of the employees and volunteers were absolutely wonderful and provided helpful tips for the first few days and months after adoption. After we got home, we more carefully reviewed the dogs history and medical record and noticed the extraordinary veterinary care he received during his 3 month stay at the shelter. Kudos to the YSPCA for all of the work they do with the animals to keep them well taken care of, getting them ready for adoption and working with adopters.

My sister, who is a stay at home mom with two kids, went there because she found a cat that wasn't neutered and was injured. She goes to York County SPCA seeking help. All the while, she had her two kids and the cat with her. She went to the shelter looking for help and they denied, explaining that he wasn't chipped. The employee was extremely rude to her and gave her a list of cat rescuers in the Pennsylvania area that was in alphabetic order and the employee said "I wouldn't go with the first option on the list" Why is the list in alphabetic order then? She went back in the car to regroup and went back in, looking for info, because they described poorly what she should do to help the cat. She once again, enters the clinic with the two kids and the cat in the carrier and looks for help. She struggles to open the door and close it, meanwhile the employees are yelling at her to close the door, not seeing she was clearly struggling. Eventually, she gets to the counter and asks for more info. She puts the carrier down and the cat claws its way out of the bag. The employees then yelled at her that the cat had to be in the carrier. She then struggled to put the cat back in the bag, without any help from the employees and got scratched. They then claimed that the cat was "ferrel" and that she should get she should get treated. York County SPCA should be more kind to their customers that need help with animal rescue. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Everyone is so kind to the people walking in and so compassionate to the animals there at the shelter.Staff and volunteers work very hard to maintain the best for the pets prior to them getting a loving home.

They only care about making money. I needed to rehome my dog for several reasons and it was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make. I tried three times and Marilyn Krepps refused all three times. She pretty much told me to have her put down. This organization is horrible to people and their animals.

Clean, hospitable and accommodating. They truly love animals and work to make good matches. It didn't work out for us but we'd definitely adopt from there if the circumstances permitted.

Myself, my grown sons, and my husband at the time, adopted Jazz, a senior pomeranian poodle, 5 years ago from the shelter. His former pet parent moved to a place that didn't allow pets (I hope they read this, 'cause Jazzy had a good life!). He was the best doggone dog.He loved long relaxing baths. After his bath, we would wrap him in a towel and say he was a 'manger dog'. Then we would turn him loose to zoom all over the living room.He recently got older and his health declined, and last month we had to put him to sleep. As much as we miss him, I am grateful to the SPCA for bringing us together. Always will be.Joy

What a disgrace. Applied and approved for multiple dogs. Very disorganized facility. Apply for dogs, get approved, and nobody ever reaches out to u. Can in to see some of the other dogs they had and noticed the dogs we were approved for MONTHS prior are still there. And this place wonders why they are always at capacity... what a shame. Feel bad for the animals

Went 2 1/2 hours out of my way to take my dog here to get spayed because of the good things I've heard. I was so worried about her today, but the staff handled her with such care. I am so grateful for the time and kindness they put into each and every animal. 10/10 and will definitely come back for any future pet spay/neuter
