To the owner of the Charny Metro.
Usually I have good service. But something happens at the end of the evening.
Unprofessional behavior from late night employees.
I arrive at 8:40 p.m. to pay. 3 young employees in the manager's office in front of the chattering cash registers. As very often. I go to the main cash register to pay. Luckily, this time, they didn't put up the "checkout closed" sign forcing us to go to the self-service checkout. As often happens. The employee asks me if it's to pay in money? I answer no. She serves me. I ask him what difference does it make whether I pay in money or not? She tells me that they will be making the cash deposit in a short time so the cash register is empty. I ask him how I would have gone about paying in money then? She answers me: “bin the crates? ". By pointing at the self-service checkouts. I give him discouraged eyes. It was 8:40 p.m. and the deposit envelope was done when closing is at 9 p.m. and there are still customers walking around. 20 minutes before the store closes, so we can assume that the deposit envelope has been made for at least 30 minutes.
Let me repeat a few details that I find nonsense.
At the end of the evening, there are 3 employees in the manager's office in front of the cash registers chatting. And often, the “Cashier Closed” sign is put on the main checkout conveyor belt. So you have to go to the self-service checkout. But if there is a problem at the so-called self-service checkout, you have to call one of the employees, who are chatting, to come and debug the checkout. What is this situation? Keep an employee at the main cash register?!
Is it just me who finds this neither normal nor professional? The store closes at 9 p.m. for customers. Not for employees. Stop chatting in front of customers. Checkout after closing when all the customers have left. I understand the rush to finish your shift but you are paid to serve customers, not to chat in front of them because there are self-service checkouts.

Large and spacious IGA, very clean.
However, for the smoked salmon special it was only delivered the next day

Very decent as a local grocery store. The staff is courteous and friendly. This is not the grocery store to visit for more niche products and you will generally only have the most popular selections for certain types of products, such as cookies or pasta.

There was a big lack of gluten-free products a few years ago, this has improved, although there is still room for improvement. The staff is smiling.

30 minutes before closing, only free checkouts open. 3 employees either on their cell phones or in conversation right next to the free cash registers. No service. Not only are prices increasing, quantities decreasing and service non-existent. I understand that you close the cash register to count the money at the close, but that's a harsh customer experience. It's been several times that I arrive to pay and there are only free cash registers to make me look like a thief by 2-3 people who do absolutely nothing. It's the only grocery store that does this.

Sunday September 22: purchase of cheese. I open it that same evening. Being pregnant, I'm careful about what I eat so I'm surprised when I discover this strange taste. But I say to myself: I just bought it, it should be good! Well no: I look at the date on the packaging: it has expired for a month and a half….!
Tuesday: I go there to return it. Very stupid lady at the counter: not a hello, not a single apology. Refunds me but tells me I can't keep my bill.
Too bad because I had just discovered this grocery store which was quieter than the others and I was planning to come and do my shopping there. Finally I will pass my turn!

Some cashiers lack a smile and more experience in a store that is expensive

I can't linger too long to review it (this grocery store). This was a first and quick visit to the premises. At first glance, I would only say that I did not particularly appreciate the layout of the place (perhaps just a matter of habit)...
Note the presence of a Normandin restaurant across the street (always a good idea to eat before going to the grocery store). 😋

I don't like the positioning of the aisles in this location. Several special items were missing.
