place is a sanitary disaster and staff are unfriendly and unprofessional but then again i wouldn’t expect anyone to feel pleasant working in such an environment all day. don’t go in there unless you can tolerate being pushed and bumped into left and right . 2 stars instead of 1 because good prices on some things and they have some good products that i haven’t seen anywhere else but overall not worth the stressful experience

Segal is known to be the cheapest and sketchiest grocery in Montreal. But I am happy that it exists because they have a ton of vegan friendly items, mock meat, plant based cheese, produce, frozen meal, nut butter… some bulk items, pastas and planted based milks, be aware that those last 3 items are near the Portuguese dried fish in the back and I am always hesitant to take them here because I am afraid they will catch the super strong fish smell and taste. Tips: check the dates on the products they tend to sell some near expired products and don't even think about going on a Saturday, the place is super crowded.

The best prices in town. Fresh products and interesting alternatives that cannot be found elsewhere. Several downsides, however: it smells of dried cod (on sale in the back of the shop), you will be served in English, it is chaos (crowded and no physical organization of the place) and it is relatively dirty. Open since 1927, it shows. Anyway, let's go there and hold our noses!

Great prices in a very retro style environment. Long lineups move fast, lots of organics choices

I am truly so grateful to all the folks that run Segals, in these times of crazy grocery prices, it's so nice to have a place where I can go and consistently get groceries at great prices. I love food and cooking so much, and Loblaw's etc's price gouging was breaking my heart. now I don't have to put up with that! Also I kinda love the crazy and cramped environment. makes it an adventure!

Disgusting establishment. Always dirty, always messy. Major fire hazard with single entrance/exit door. Not worth the cheap prices.

Amazing "ghetto style" nom commercial local grocery market. Good prices and huge selection ?

I love this grocery store. On the other hand, it is almost always impossible to be served in French at the checkouts. It thus contributes to the growing anglicization of the city while not respecting the fundamental right to be served in the language of the majority.P.S. A year later nothing has changed. And even an obvious contempt to condescend to speak French after having said: "Sorry I don't speak English" for the form of course. Choosing to live in Quebec is choosing French. This isn't Saskatoon or Wyoming. So welcome everyone!

Iconic Montreal staple for cheap groceries in a chaotic space. You need to be mentally prepared to shop here especially during the busy hours, the aisles are tight and items can be hard to find. But you can’t beat the prices, especially on fruits and veggies—items can be half the price from a bigger store.

The best prices in town for your grocery shopping! The same items as the competition with $2 and more...less on each item!

I’m new to the city so I’m not sure but I think 3 full bags of groceries that only cost under $200 is a great deal. I’ll change this to five stars when my family like the food I bought from there!
