What a lovely store, right on Greene close to St. Catherine St. Driving back from dinner the other night, late, we passed this store and the display in the front bay window was so beautiful and arresting, I made a mental note to return here to check out the place during weekday hours. (The window contained the most stunning, shining, gem stone colored candles shaped as balls, in various sizes, all perfectly orbital and shining with a glossy finish. Some were quite large, and the arrangement, with all these glorious deep hued colors. were truly sculptural in their effect. I wish I had taken a photo. I've never seen candles like that. I actually thought they were sculptures). My mother and I visited this store today and wow, what a wonderful collection of uber-luxurious items, many of which are quite unique, I've not seen the likes of them anywhere else before. A sampling of some of the gorgeous items we saw: gourmet foodstuffs, packaged like none other (ex., olive oils and vinegars, in modern hand-painted artisanal ceramic or glass cruets and bottles. I'm talking kick-ass modern artwork, the kind of pieces you'd love to put on your table, and keep long after the oil or vinegar is gone. And amazingly beautiful Italian candies and biscuits, all packaged like artwork. And honeys and tapenades and other foodie condiments); tableware (ex., thick lacquered placemats that could literally be hung on the wall as artwork, serving ware and drink ware by Baccarat and other high-end lines, jaw-dropping plates and dishes, so contemporary, in all shapes and sizes and materials); small house linens (lots of pretty tea towels and cocktail-inspired hand towels); and, luxurious skin and body care products (I didn't really inspect these, as I was focused on the house stuff). They also had a few contemporary furniture pieces, like organic-shaped black wooden side tables or coffee tables, or narrow and a tall matte metal entryway table. All very cool, that would work in a variety of spaces, with a variety of aesthetics. But by far, this store has the most home decorative accents and accessories, and my mom and I oohed and ahhed over the majority of them. Stunning centerpieces, decorative sculptural pieces, candlesticks, picture frames, accent pillows, poker sets, vases, trays.... so many gorgeous things to look at here. Sure, the prices are high, but we are talking high-end pieces, the kinds you'd maybe see at Berghoff's (if anywhere). The two ladies who work here are super friendly. No pressure to buy anything or rush through the store. They were fun to talk to and really warm. This is THE place to go to if you have lots of money and need a gift for a discerning friend - or yourself!
