Portside Tavern is where you go for inspiration. If not the food, then the visuals. Around daily sunset time, the sun is directly in sight of the tavern's windows setting over the bay. The Portside has a set of curtains to block the blinding light, but the view and the experience are incredible. We went to Portside for an earlier dinner, around 5:00 to 5:30 PM, and promptly got a table. Cocktails were delicious and the food was served quickly. A real benefit to an early dinner! The Thai Veggie Wraps are gluten-free, and listed as that on the menu. Alongside a bunch of other gluten-free options, the veggie wraps stand out.The burgers were also delicious. They have gluten-free rolls that accommodate a decent sized beef patty. No report on the business' sustainability practices.Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free labels on menu items.

Let me first say that I love eating outside at this restaurant in the summer - totally different experience. This was my first time eating inside & I brought my 80 yr old mom. The main dining room is one open room with a very worn feel. It was so loud I knew my mom and I couldn't have a conversation. We had to sit at high top booth to get away from the noise, and it was difficult for her to get in and out of the booth due to the step up. The bar atmosphere is very generic and plain and there was no lighting over the booths. The food was pretty run of the mill, but I did not enjoy the “cornbread” I paid extra for with my chili. It was dry and tasteless - not even a hint of sweetness or butter that makes cornbread delicious. My husband ordered the same and held the same opinion. I won't choose this restaurant again for indoor dining, but definitely outdoors in the summer.

Jacqueline was a great waitress Her effort to make things right is encomendadle. The side salad of my dish was not good ( the lettuce were old). The fries my husband ordered were cold. The server made it right by bringing fresh made fries. Someone needs to verify the food is 5 stars before being served.

Great cocktails in dinner service this evening. Steak tips were done to perfection while my wife enjoyed her protein salad.

Tow of us ordered bourbon steak tips in rice bowl. Was very average at best and overpriced. Would not order again. Korean bbq app was pretty good and apple crisp for dessert was average. Other dessert, cheesecake, was good. Waitress was great, very friendly. Had a great burger there in the past, will probably go that route in the future.

The quality of the food and beverages was outstanding. Our server Nate was very personable and his service exceptional. He was attentive to us without hovering. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience.

Overall atmosphere was great. Felt rushed by waitresses. She took only half of our party’s drink oder and left. Came back and wanted our food order before getting the rest their drinks. We asked for some time to look at the menu before ordering . She came back 3-4 times within 10 min to take our order. Not an enjoyable experience. I personally was nor thrilled with my dish. Others in my party were happy. I ordered the scallops with rice and broccolini. It was drowning in sauce. No actual flavor just salty brown soy-ish sauce

I’m very torn, I want to like this place so bad. The fireplace is great, same with their hours, and for bar food options in the area they have a larger and more interesting menu. But both times I’ve been there the service has been well less friendlier and less thorough then say in a dive bar. It’s not rude but it’s been very awkward and no one ever asked how my food was or even if I want to order dinner without having to try to make eye contact a bunch same with having an empty drink when it’s not busy, when paying $16 for a drink and $27 for food, which were both pretty decent and higher end things but even for just getting a beer and a burger I just would expect a little more warmth and it feels hard to justify.

Lot of gluten free options! Fire place. Nice waitstaff. Right along the water.Someone else said a lot of things seemed watered down and I think I agree with them but I like soup-y kind of stuff so I enjoyed it. My friends didn’t like it at much as I did though. We arrived at 3pm with no wait. A lot of people at the bar watching the game. When we left at 5pm, it was full! So you probably need a reservation during peak times.

Visited my daughter who is a grad student at RWU and lives on Hope street and stopped here on a walk back from the Hope street Christmas festival. We'd never tried Portside before. Hostess & greeting was pleasant, restaurant was clean service was decent though we needed to seek out napkins and silverware (as did the table next to us) which was a little odd given there were empty tables with silverware and enough wait staff. Food: A decent burger. About average for a tavern. Pretzel stick appetizer was good with the dipping sauce. Perhaps a little pricey. Decent beer list. I'd return, but will try other local options too.

Nice little spot walking distance to water. Best pork chop I've every had in my life. All of the food I've had there has always been top notch. The chef definitely knows what he is doing.
