The Monastery is a peaceful and historic place with beautiful grounds and trails. Once a monastery, the area now includes the Cumberland Library and parts of local child services. Visitors can enjoy miles of hiking trails that wind through small ponds, wetlands, and varied landscapes, making it great for nature lovers and geocachers. The trails are marked and offer moderate difficulty, with opportunities to see birds, deer, rabbits, chipmunks, raccoons, and even a skunk, especially in the summer when bugs can be numerous. The grounds feature a playground for children, with slides, swings, a gym, and a sandbox, making it a family-friendly spot. In winter, visitors can walk on a small frozen pond, sometimes attempting to play ice hockey, and often enjoy ice cream afterward in nearby Cumberland. The library is highly regarded, with friendly staff and historical displays, including pictures of the old monastery and its tragic fire. The area is dog-friendly, and parking is free. Visitors appreciate the quiet, scenic trails, the peaceful atmosphere, and the opportunity for outdoor activities like walking and geocaching. Many cherish their memories of visiting with family and hope to return someday to experience the tranquility and history of The Monastery.

This is a beautiful park! I love how many options there are for playground climbing equipment. The stage is really cool as well. It's particularly beautiful in the fall!
