I recently purchased a violin from Michal Lyons Violins. It was a wonderful experience. Mike is so patient, knowledgeable and willing to spend the extra time to make sure you are happy. I love his shop as it is a calming space which adds to the experience. I am very happy with the violin I purchased there.

Absolutely wonderful person and will be returning to for any instrument needs! I brought in an older fiddle that had a fingerboard loose and needed some tlc. Michael was a dream and charged very fairly and well deserved the money. He kept great communication and was very flexible and understanding. Thank you so much again for helping me out! You've made yourself a happily returning customer!

Mike is a wonderful person and has a great selection of instruments! I went in with the intention of shopping, but he noticed my sound post was out of wack and fixed it for free. My violin is 100 times better!!!! He made me fall back in love with my own instrument again! He’s not in it for the money but truly cares about the people and wants to match the right person with the right instrument even if it means fixing another instrument and not making a sale. THANK YOU MIKE!!! You are the best!!!!

Mike was so very patient and helpful to this newbie to the violin!! We spent a great deal of time chatting and trying different violins and he set me up with a great rental kit. He made me a customer for life! I highly recommend contacting Mike for all of your violin or cello needs!!

Chill and unpretentious, Mike was a pleasure to hang out with while he took a look at my violin over the weekend. After a minor soundpost adjustment and general checkup, he showed me a couple of his bows for sale, and after talking odds and ends, he sent me on my way free of charge. I left feeling more like a friend than a customer, and hope to return soon.

If you want expert quality advice about your violin I highly recommend going to this shop. I recently purchased a violin and had no idea where to start. Michael helped me set up my bridge, made sure my violin was in tune and throughly checked it over. He demonstrated how to play and even made sure to recommend some teachers I could reach out to. He was very professional and knowledgeable. I will be back when I am ready to level up my strings or if I need anything else for my violin.

I purchased a violin for my wife online so she could start learning to play, but we did not know how to set up or tune the instrument. I found Mike on google and reached out. He was very responsive and setting up an appointment was easy. Once we were there, he helped us set it up and taught my wife how to tune her new violin. He also helped set up the bow and scratched the rosin for her. He did not try to sell us anything. He provided the service we requested of him and exceeded expectations while doing so. He even showed her how to properly hold the instrument. Most shops won't work on a violin that is purchased online but Mike was happy to do so. He really helped us out and did so at a modest price. Honestly, I felt like I owed him more. I regret not finding him in the first place and purchasing the violin from him directly, but we will be going to him in the future for any and all violin needs. I highly recommend this shop.

I'm so pleased that I found Mike's studio rather than buying an instrument online. First off, he was incredibly responsive and setting up an appointment was a breeze. He also selected a variety of violins for me to try based on what I was looking for and explained some of the differences in make and history, which I found absolutely fascinating. He spent almost 2 hours showing me a handful of instruments and allowing me to play each one as much as I wanted in order to find the sound that was right for me. They were all set up properly with good quality parts even though I was looking for a lower end violin, and the differences in tone and timbre is really only something you can determine in person. His prices are very good, especially for such niche work, and you can tell that he loves his craft and pours his heart into every piece. Truly a pleasure to chat with!
And don't forget his adorable shop cat, who was not only very affectionate but also quite patient considering the racket I was making...
Now back to practicing!

What a great visit! The shop is amazing, like a museum. Michael is knowledgeable, personable and professional. He did amazing work on my cello for a very reasonable price. Highly recommend for purchase, repair and restoration.
