My teen daughter and I had a wonderful stay at the Sullivan House. We stayed in a suite, which was down a little from the main house. I liked the privacy and space of the suite. The inn keeper was very helpful and thoughtful. We had fun kayaking from their property. The town beach is a short walk across the street. I can't wait to go back! I will definitely return to the Sullivan House!

I photographed a wedding here and it was absolutely gorgeous, couldn’t ask for a better venue! The views and the feeling of the island are best enjoyed from the lawn of Sullivan House. Would highly recommend it as a wedding venue!

The Sullivan House and Block Island Catering were tremendous!! We got super lucky with a beautiful (although hot) day for the wedding! The Sullivan House looked fantastic and provided the beauty we wanted for our wedding. Linda was very helpful for the planning process and day of wedding stuffs, and the entire staffed knocked it out of the park! Definitely recommend this venue for a BI wedding! The rooms for our wedding party were also great and very comfy!

I stayed in the Sullivan House this past weekend for a wedding (9/23/23)I was a vendor but also a friend and guest of the couple. They rented The Sullivan House for close relatives and vendors as well as the other home on the property for the bridal party. The amount of disrespect and disregard for them on their special day was astonishing. The weather was not ideal and stressful enough for the couple. Half of their vendors were not able to arrive because of canceled ferries or concerns about not being able to leave the island. Everything was moved inside of the tent on the property and pushed up three hours the next day. Their plated dinner was changed to a buffet because of the venues weather concerns with no price adjustment or compromise. A buffet is always less expensive than a plated dinner. There was no option to extend the wedding an hour later or so because it was going to end at 6:00 pm instead of 9:00 pm. The venue UNPLUGGED the DJs equipment at 6:00 pm as he was making an announcement and they were breaking down their tables and chairs before their wedding was over. I also overheard the owner several times talking inappropriately about the couple and their families (who are all very sweet and considerate people.)The owner had not communicated with anyone from the wedding the day of. The first point of contact was when she was waiting in the tent next to her staff for the couple to walk in and I approached her fifteen minutes after the ceremomy start time. She was unaware of any of the issues the couple encountered until I informed her of them and she replied with a oh I didn't realize. As a vendor and having worked several weddings the venue coordinator will at a minimum greet the couple and ask if they are ready to line up for the ceremony. The DJ and I took over that responsibility as she refused. They spent tens of thousands of dollars on this venue to only be treated poorly. We all caught the owners in countless lies which was one of the most infuriating parts. As I'm writing this we are in a hotel still on Block Island because of the storm. We were kicked out of the hotel on Sunday with no option to stay later because the water was going to be shut off at 2 by the plumber. After the owner talked with one of the mothers they stated for $1000 we could all stay. The other house on the property (they are ran by different people i believe they are relatives) had told the couple since they rented the house for a week and this situation was out of their control they could stay at no charge. Only to later be told because of the disagreement the mother had at The Sullivan house they had to pay $800 or there would be other people arriving to stay.I could honestly write several more paragraphs on how condescending and rude the owners are and how improperly their business is ran but I'm sure there is a reason why this is the last wedding they are hosting at their venue. This is a beautiful location and a shame that hospitality is not a priority. They should be ashamed of their behavior.I removed this review the day after posting because I received a threatening phonecall from the owner about taking legal action. Since we were still stuck on the island I removed the review to not create any further issues.

Staying at The Sullivan House is always a wonderful experience! We have stayed here twice now and both times have been incredible. The views are great, the rooms are quaint, the staff is extremely nice and helpful- all around a great experience. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!

My room had a slanted roof that I kept bumping my head on but hardly a deal breaker for me personally. Other rooms seemed fine. Room and property was clean and everything worked as expected. The location was great. the view was delightful . Property offered bikes and beach chairs/towels. The staff was polite and helpful. Provided breakfast each morning was excellent. Hoping to visit the island again one day and will look into Sullivan House first for lodging when I do.

I went with my grandmother to Sullivan hotel on block island. We decide to bike home on a hot, sunny day. I am pretty sure that they did not warn us about the hard hill to get up on. It is very steep, far away from town, and it is tiring. We arrive at the hotel, and open the door. The owner comes out and greets us hello. I did like how she gave up information as we asked, but she did not explain to us about the town. (Check in is at three so we had to leave and do something else.) We decide to horse back riding which was very fun but when we get back from dinner, we notice the doors where locked! We tried all the doors but they were all locked for sure. So we go to the beach, watch the movie and come back to our room at pitch black. Warning there are NO lights on the long steep driveway. My grandmother and I had walked up and the doors are still locked. We go to the side door, looking over at no cars especially not the owners car, and my grandmother opens the side door. We thought we had to sleep outside that night. We get to our room and my grandmother takes a shower. When she gets out it starts to leak. It had been leaking from night to the morning. When we wanted to wash our hands in the tiny cramped bathroom, she includes that when she was showering, her elbows where banging against the shower. She squirts the soap into her hand but it unexpectedly squirts onto her shirt, across the room. They had refiled it with water! The breakfast was fine, pancakes where ok, but when we where leaving we walked into the pitch black hall trying to find the light switch. My grandmas bed had no top sheet, she she got sweaty then cold. Our room was supposed to be upgraded with a sliding door, and a bigger room but we never got upgraded and even payed extra. That is my opinion on the hotel. It had bird p*** on the seats, but I liked to look over and see the boats.

The location is perfection. On a hill overlooking the marina, sunset and wide open lawns. It’s quiet and historic and the breakfast was generous and lovely every morning. Everyone that works there was warm and helpful and the general vibe was cozy and accommodating. Along with being on a beautiful property, it’s directly across the street from the main public beach, which has bathrooms and surprisingly good food. The beach is clean and water perfection. Lifeguard for kiddos is nice too.The place is old, while the room is very sunny and comfortable it’s small and the bathroom is tiny and could use a facelift, (only reason for 4 not 5 stars). Overall, it’s a great place to stay and I’d come back in a heartbeat!

I stayed here with my girlfriend for two nights in “Room 2,” otherwise known as the “Small Queen” room. The location of the Sullivan House cannot be beat, with views of New Harbor in one direction and Crescent Beach in the other. The property and views are probably the best on the island. Hot breakfast was provided and was very good, with varying items each day.The problem we had with the stay was the room was comically small (hardly larger than the bed itself,) and one wall was angled in such a way that you could only stand in about half the space. I’m only 5’7”, and couldn’t sit up on the left side of the bed without hitting my head. The bathroom consisted of a toilet and a tiny shower, with the sink on the other side of the room. There were no towel bars or hooks anywhere in the room or bathroom. There was no closet or anywhere to hang clothing. The window air conditioner was barely adequate to cool the room, and was positioned in a corner in such a way that it blew most of the air against a wall.I have traveled extensively all over the world and stayed in many budget motels and hostels, and this was one of the “coziest” and most uncomfortable rooms in which I have ever stayed. With taxes and fees, we paid $350 per night for this room, which in all honesty should be a closet. It’s no secret that Block Island during the summer months is expensive, but this price could only be described as obscene for the space provided. Amazingly, it is only about $100-150 less than other much nicer rooms in the hotel. There are photos on the website of the room, but they clearly are purposely angled to avoid the angled wall. I have attached some realistic photos of the room. The hotel also offers bicycles and kayaks for rent. The bicycles are clearly not well-maintained and cost $35 for 6-8 hrs. We opted to rent from a place in town for $20-25 for 24 hours. The single kayaks are $35 for two hours, which is comparable to kayak companies in town. We chose to rent those and were directed to walk down the driveway to where they are stored. We found them covered in sand and mud, with the seats completely in the wrong positions. There was no dock or ramp, requiring us to climb down a slippery mud bank to launch them. The kayaks worked fine for our purposes, but we definitely felt nickel-and-dimed to pay $70 for the privilege.Overall, we would stay here again, but would not consider renting that room again for the price we paid.

The best place on the island, hands down! (Actually, if the truth be known, I have found that The Sullivan House is one of the best places on Earth that I have been!) Location, location, location. The Sullivan House is out of the fray, is easily bike-able, with 360-degree views. But the location pales in comparison to the people that ensure our enjoyment. They are super welcoming and whatever you need, they'll find it; whilst being a great steward of the island's natural resources. I make sure to carve out time to go yearly, for a brief, mini vacation.

It was my first time staying at the Sullivan House. Overall it was fine. Location is nice and secluded. Breakfasts stellar. At times i felt the manager was less than helpful, and a simple question was an intrusion. A request for a beach towel seemed like a burden. Wine was supposed to be available until 7 pm, and i was so looking forward to a glass of wine at 6:30 one evening, but when i went downstairs, all staff had already left and there was no wine to be had. A pipe burst during my stay, and water had to be shut off for several hours while the repair was made. One vacationer was overheard negotiating a discount because his wife could not take a shower. Linda was very accommodating to him. But was this discount for the inconvenience offered to the rest of us? No. Bikes that were promised to be available all seemed to be spoken for early in the morning by all the families. All in all, not sure i'd stay there again. They need to up their game a little.

The room was immaculate and spacious. The location is perfect; you are located right across from the town beach and close enough to walk into town. The King Seaview Suite has a gorgeous view of the New Harbor and the Ocean. The setting is tranquil. The staff is friendly and helpful. When we return to Block Island for our next getaway, we plan to stay at The Sullivan House again.

The views are amazing. You can see half of the island from up there
