We are from Ontario and ended up looking in New England for a sailboat because of the shortage in the Great Lakes. We contacted several brokers and left messages to get back to us. Surprising only one returned a call. Dan Keenan of Blue Nose Yachts. He was absolutely awesome to deal with and has an extensive knowledge of all types of sailboats. We met him in Boston and looked at boats there and went on to Rhode Island to see a few more. He steered us away from a couple until we put an offer in on one. He was very good at explaining everything to us in detail regarding the offer as we were a little nervous because of the distance from our home. I would highly recommend anyone to request his help whether new to sailing or an old salt, he is not only knowledgeable but honest.

Be prepared to be disappointed by promise of International warranty on new Jeanneau 410. Non existent is the right word.

I have used Bluenose as both a buyer and a seller. They are wonderful to work with, and Francis in particular is a wealth of expertise and zeal

I signed a contract to purchase a 38' sailboat in Warwick, Rhode Island from Bluenose Yacht Sales that it had accepted in trade. I did that based in large part on their commitment to reimburse me for half the cost of the survey if it "did not pass" since I am located around 400 miles away and had no opportunity to see the boat beforehand. The survey uncovered a long list of deficiencies that were not identified in a recent survey of the same boat five months prior (I had obtained a copy). A number of these items rendered the vessel uninsurable, including a rapid propane leak (source unknown) that was identified in the prior survey yet inexplicably was not repaired by Bluenose Yacht Sales, and a leak at the air conditioner seawater strainer (cause unknown). There was a long list of other deficiencies that turned up in the survey I had done, including an inoperable AC/Heat system (one of two zones), a loose lower rudder bearing that required dropping the rudder to repair, inoperable engine compartment blower, broken latches and on and on.In addition, the sales contract called for the vessel to be winterized/decommissioned within seven days AFTER the closing of the sale, yet the surveyor and I arrived to find the vessel had already been decommissioned before the survey could be performed. This rendered the surveyor unable to test a number of the systems on the vessel - such as the automatic bilge pump, the fresh water system and the water heater - or to draw any conclusions as to their condition and operability. As a result, I notified Bluenose Yacht Sales that that I was canceling the contract and requested they make good on their offer to reimburse half the cost of the survey. The response, from the owner Glenn Walters, was that no boat is perfect, that my decision to cancel was likely due to my boating inexperience and that perhaps I should consider chartering instead of buying. He refused to reimburse me as promised. I would not consider doing business again with Bluenose Yachts based on this very disappointing experience.UPDATE: Sorry Glen, a survey that shows the boat is uninsurable due to a dangerous propane leak, and a leak at the air conditioner raw water intake of unknown origin - not to mention 18 additional deficiencies - is not "perfectly fine" regardless of whether I've purchased a boat before. And your speculation that I decided not to purchase it for personal reasons is just that - speculation - and wholly unfounded. I also have complete faith in the surveyor and would recommend him wholeheartedly to anyone interested in buying a boat. The simple fact is the boat was not in the condition that was described to me and you failed to make good on your commitment to reimburse me for half the survey cost.
