We were at first given a room that looked out towards a building that was not super pleasing to the eye, I called down to the lobby and asked if we could possibly have a room with more of a view. They were able to do that, since it was Christmas Eve and not very busy- John was super helpful in accommodating us. The lounge/bridge area was a nice touch to each floor. The room had a modern and industrial vibe, which we liked very much; very tasteful. . One of the other things I did like was the smell of the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash that is there for use as well. The only downsides for some people might be that the iron is super mini and there is no fridge, however, we made do with/without these amenities. Overall, this hotel was very clean, tasteful in decor, and the staff was great- one of our now favorite hotels by far.Walkability: It is centrally located to the wharf and shopping.Food & drinks: Located close to Thames St. And Bellevue, which have a lot of bars and restaurants.

Rooms are much too small; bathroom vanity/sink is not enclosed in any privacy--its out in the "open", apparently by room design. The only privacy one has is when you close the door to the very small shower and toilet. No mini-refrigerator. Coffee in the lobby was very good but New Year's weekend they "ran out of cream and half/half", so we were left to use milk only.Very disappointed and my wife and I will not be back to Hammets; we visit Newport every year.On the good side, staff was great, friendly and very helpful. Rooms immaculate and very quiet.

Beautiful hotel. Great views of the harbor and so close to everything for your shopping or restaurant needs! Bowens Wharf is a stones throw away. The only thing I find odd is there is no breakfast. Coffee and tea in the lobby but nothing to eat. Valet parking was fast and affordable. The restaurant for dinner is incredible!

Had my sunglasses stolen from the lobby, alerted management and they were very chevalier in their response. I had to tell them where their camera was located to review the incident. They offered nothing to me to make me feel liked they were concerned about who was staying in their facility and taking other peoples belongings. They said I had to call my insurance and file a claim. It was all business no empathy from the front desk. Need to be more people oriented, that’s what differentiates good from very good hotels. Left the hotel with a bad taste in my mouth.

Ended up bringing all of our luggage from the garage to our room ourselves. My husband is 82 with a heart condition. Very expensive hotel with minimal service but a nice view. It was my daughter's wedding and we had recommended the hotel to several of our guests. They were all disappointed. The hotel was clean, rooms small and we were disappointed with the service.

Suggested improvements:• Have Bell Hop or have written instructions in the room or put them on the TV to explain all aspects of how and where things are located in room, IE thermostat how it works, safe where it is located, shades how to adjust, how room key controls electric.• Our stay would have been a lot less frustrating if you had added my suggestion above.o No one told us that the room key had to stay in the port to keep lights on figured out through trial and error.o Found where you hid the safe on the second day.o Thermostat got instructions from front desk on how to get air back on.o We only wanted certain shades to go down or up still not sure on how that works as several went down when I only want one.Signed:A Very Unhappy Guest

We were lucky enough to escape to Hammetts for a brief weekend getaway this past weekend. It was an absolutely incredibly stay. From the incredibly welcoming and accommodating staff at all levels, to the gorgeous common areas and aesthetics, to the amazing views from our room. It was our first hotel stay with both of our young children, and I don't think we could have picked a better location for a "test run". The really fantastic piece for us, is that the facility was a great home base, literally in the middle of everything happening in Newport, walkable to dozens of restaurants, bars, shops and scenic views. With the super easy valet parking, it was seamless to jump in the car and head off on a more distant location for part or all of the day. Hammetts manages to not just be "in Newport" but to actually be a hotel that has a sense of place unto itself. It fits, while standing out. Hands down one of the best places we've had the opportunity to stay, and we can't wait to get back during each of the 4 seasons to see what additional memories we can make.Nearby activities: Lots of great little shops, an arcade across the street, parks just a couple blocks up the hill, and plenty of spots to walk out on the docks and see activity on the water. Just 3 miles away we landed at Sachuest wildlife refuge where we spent half a day wandering trails, spotting wildlife (snakes, deer, butterflied, and tons of wooly bear caterpillars) they have a great visitor center too which was awesome for the kids. The beaches in this area have legit the softest sand ever, and made for a great place to take a stroll. The Cliff Walk is just a short distance from there, giving even more great views and peaks at the local mansions. Even without spending a dime there is a ton to do.Walkability: Super walkable. The historic, cobblestone feel is paired with very accessible sidewalks. Walk a mile in one direction and you'll see restaurants, bars, cute shops, college residences, and lovely quiet neighborhoods all nestled along the water. Go the other direction and you'll see even more restaurants and shops, and eventually find yourself on the local bike trail. Right across the street is the first street lit by gas lighting in the nation, and if this area weren't so walkable we wouldn't have discovered that neat fact. We found it super easy to get around both walking and with a stroller, and even when busy, it wasn't overwhelming.Food & drinks: We loved the fact that we could discover all the great local food options mere steps from the doors. Koffology became our "go to" breakfast and coffee spot, The Red Parrot was an awesome place to grab dinner, and Sticks and Cones received multiple ice cream retrieval visits from our family. We barely scraped the surface of what was available within 2 blocks of the hotel doors though. Plenty more options to check out next time.

An overpriced experience in a hotel will little to offer. Very poorly designed rooms with absolutely no closets, no large bath towels and robes, a dark tub shower with indecipherable product labels. I assume they were shampoo etc but not sure. Sink in bedroom ( we had a suite), children running overhead at all hours, no food or drink at hotel, hall so dark you needed a light to unlock door. One luggage rack in unlit corner. The guests comfort was not the object here, just to look good in the photos. Beware! However, staff friendly with what they had and bed was nice. In a lifetime of travel, this was a fleecing I could have missed. All sizzle, no steak. Whomever gave this overpriced place a good review did not stay here. We asked for an ocean view and had noisy street and lights in room all night. Never again at the Hammett.Rooms: Bright overhead lights or ugly lamps or murky corners. This was in no way deluxe . It seemed clean. Minibar empty. Two ugly big screen tvs ( suite), glacial, open internet.Food & drinks: None offered except coffee in paper cups in lobby.Noteworthy details: Location and view for some, not all, of the rooms. ABSOLUTELY No closets. I’m not saying inadequate closets, just none at all. Same for dressers. None. Bathroom sink in bedroom (ick).

Pleasantly surprised by this hotel considering some of the more negative reviews. Staff were friendly, the room was pretty nice, and the location was perfect.Rooms are smaller than usual for the US, but not too small that it was an issue. They had ample storage and were very clean and modern. I'm a little shocked at how extremely negative the response is to them here. The location on the water was really nice, and you could walk everywhere from this central location. My only caveats are that1. My biggest complaint: You can't make the heating/cooling system run on fan mode all night, so it kept starting up and stopping throughout the night, which was pretty annoying. I wish I could have just had the consistent white noise, as we had a crying baby next to us and it would have helped.2. Hotel parking costs were pretty high for the stay. I'm not used to parking hitting triple digits but maybe this has become a norm in the area.3. No fridge or microwave. Not the biggest problem, but def a bummer.4. Not much in the food/drink category. AM Coffee was tolerable but I wish they had a slightly better selection of coffee & snack. And that's it. It's a modern smaller hotel, in a perfect location, with minimal extras.Rooms: Rooms are small but very modern and clean. Super comfy beds. Room fan cannot be set to stay on, so room switches between complete silence and white noise - can be an issue if noisy neighbors at night.Walkability: In the middle of the action. Easy to walk to anywhere in town.

This hotel would be SO much better if they just offered some simple amenities. The no fridge or microwave in room was a big bummer, especially since I didn't pay attention to that on the website and drove from Pennsylvania with our wedding anniversary cake... which we then couldn't put in a fridge. My bad, but still sucks.Negatives: no coffee in room, limited coffee hours in the lobby, spotty Wi-Fi, no book in the room with hotel information (just a small hanging piece of a paper with a map, no breakfast, really uncomfortable bed and pillows, cost of parking.Positives: The location is perfect. Walkable to most of downtown. Loved the room, but could imagine it would be small for a family. LOVED that the hotel had water refill stations everywhere.

Location is great. The rooms are pretty. However, the service is terrible. With the exception of the valet guys! Who are fabulous. But the free Wi-Fi kicks out every five minutes making it impossible to do anything from your room. There is only one container of coffee in the lobby (zero amenities in room) available from 6 AM to 11 AM… Which they call grandly the coffee bar… But this morning there were 10 people deep waiting to fill up cups. The shower is terrible water pressure with a little hot water. Rooms were cold with no additional blankets available. There was no hand soap and it took quite a long time to get hand soap. Cannot recommend this hotel.

Stayed here 4 nights and should have believed the bad reviews and NOT MADE A RESERVATION. Please Don’t stay here. Tiniest rooms in any hotel we’ve ever stayed in and most unfriendly staff of a high-end hotel.Cons.Most unfriendly staff — act like they have no knowledge of the local area and don’t care. Actually told us “just google it” when we called before our stay with a question about places close by to rent a bike. Every interaction was like this.It was raining and had no umbrellas.Rooms are tiny. Bathroom isn’t a bathroom - it’s a walk by from the door to the bed. Single tiny sink.No closet. 3 hangers. For a 4 night stay.Room is either freezing or hot. All night long.No frig and no coffeemaker in room. You have to get dressed and go down to the lobby if you want coffee. What?No snacks or drinks or food sold on site. Restaurant they claim online is theirs - closed for 2 days while we were there.Again - surprised at how little they care about the guests. They seem to hate when you ask them anything. Everyone who worked at the front desk had the same attitude. “Don’t bother us. We’re only here to take your money.”Even management the day we left acted like we were bothering them when we checked out. No one smiles. Really disappointing stay.ProsCentrally located.

Good location service was nothing to write home about. Rooms are nice but water pressure in shower very very poor, also there is a sink in the bedroom not exactly what I would expect from such a highly rated hotel. Would not return.
