When my husband booked this location I thought Wow thats expensive. He didn't tell me about the cost because he knows I wouldn't have said yes to spending that much a night. Im more frugal lol
OK that being said, this hotel is amazing in every way. I was worried I wasn't fancy enough but the staff wasn't fake nice they were genuine and kind and interesting. This is important to me . The historical beauty was stunning. The lawn and the view! The easy access to the beach and the cliff walk was perfect. The food was delicious! I couldn't say more!

This place is absolutely a 5/5. The manager Jason on the restaurant side is absolutely incredible. The food, the view and the friendly staff I would recommend this amazing hotel to anyone.

An unforgettable honeymoon experience!
We spent two nights at The Chandler at Cliff in Newport this past October for our honeymoon, and it was absolutely magical. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, personal, and attentive — they truly made us feel special.
The hotel itself is stunning — elegant, historic, and perched right on the cliffs with breathtaking ocean views. The location alone is worth the trip, but what really stood out was the food. The lobster was hands-down some of the best we’ve ever had — fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor.
Everything about our stay felt thoughtful and unique, from the charming rooms to the little details that made our celebration feel extra memorable. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to start our married life.
Highly recommended for a romantic getaway or special occasion. We’ll definitely be back!

A Love Letter and a Lament: Reflections on The Chanler
For the past 15 years, The Chanler has held an irreplaceable place in my heart. My husband and I were married here on June 30, 2012, and we’ve returned every year since to celebrate, to dine, to simply soak in the beauty and grace that once defined this magical place. Every visit has felt like coming home—because of the unwaveringly exceptional service, the old-world charm, and the elegance that evoked a Newport of another era. The staff has always been warm, intuitive, and consistent—never once have we felt anything but cherished as guests. That standard of hospitality remains the heartbeat of The Chanler, and for that, I remain immensely grateful.
But this year was different.
When I walked into the newly redecorated bar and dining room, I felt like I had been dumped by someone I loved—over a text message. I was stunned. Heartbroken. I had no words, only tears.
The redesign, mainly incorporating Sarah Sherman Samuel’s collaboration with Lulu and Georgia, may shine in a showroom or a curated Instagram post, but it feels deeply out of place here. I say this as someone who admires SSS and even owns pieces from her collection (I adore her tiger grass cloth wallpaper in my own home). But The Chanler is not the place for ripple accent chairs or stark modern minimalism. Once a haven of rich textures, original artwork, and timeless chesterfield leather—each element a quiet nod to the grandeur and history of Newport—the space now feels disjointed, confused. It’s modern versus old money in a way that clashes, rather than converses.
The Chanler used to transport you. It had a soul—a romantic, storied atmosphere that made you feel as if you were stepping into a time when elegance wasn’t trendy, it was lived. Now, the aesthetic speaks more to trend cycles than timelessness. It's Newport trying to be West Hollywood. And no one comes to Newport for new money.
I understand the desire to evolve, to stay current. But evolution should not come at the cost of identity. What once felt bespoke now feels curated for an audience that may not fully understand what The Chanler once was—and still could be. Please, let this be a pause—a chance to reflect. Take the decor to your own home, your next project, your next boutique hotel. But bring back the soul. Bring back the warmth. Bring back The Chanler.
We’ll keep coming back because love is patient, and love remembers. But I hope with all my heart that one day soon, I’ll walk through those doors and feel like I’ve come home again.

We stopped by after the cliff walk for a pizza, but ended up not getting it.
While the view is very nice, the servers, the waiters, and the other clientele all have a certain demeanour to them. Specifically, this place caters to a certain demographic, and will give you second class service if you are not clearly part of that demographic. It feels very unwelcoming.
Finally, the wait for a simple pepperoni was 35 minutes! Would not recommend.

We had a mostly great stay here, in Martha Vineyard! The service was top-notch—everyone we interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. Housekeeping really impressed us with their attention to detail; the room was clean, fresh, and nicely set up. It had a cozy, comfortable feel that made it easy to settle in and relax.
There were a couple of hiccups during our stay. Unfortunately, we did encounter some bugs—ants near the wet bar and bathroom, spiders around the hot tub, and flies on the porch. We're not fans of bugs, so this was definitely a downside and took away from the overall comfort. Additionally, the jacuzzi tub didn’t drain properly the first night, though that issue was resolved afterward.
That said, the warm hospitality and attention to cleanliness truly stood out. With improved pest control and a bit more maintenance, this could be an excellent getaway spot. We suggest to maybe opt for a room instead of a villa to avoid the bugs.

The level of lunch service in the dining room is lacking the basics. No water service, lacked clearing plates, timing was slow. Food extremely expensive, $50 for a lunch salad, $22 tiny cocktail. I guess your paying for the view.

We stopped by the chanler for a quick drink while on the cliff walk in Newport. The service was absolutely impeccable and the zero proof drinks were quite delightful. The inside was absolutely gorgeous and had a stunning view of the ocean. While we have walked past many times before, it was our first time inside and we were just blown away by the absolute hospitality and kindness at the chanler. I cannot wait to return.

We had a 2 day getaway and the Chanler far exceeded our expectations. From the moment we pulled in we were made to feel like royalty and the accommodations were absolutely stunning. We highly recommend the Chanler and cannot wait to return to this awesome retreat. The views of the ocean were phenomenal. It was the most relaxing trip we ever had.

This hotel is at the perfect location for discovering the mansions in Newport: right at the start of the Cliff Walk. It's absolutely worth walking the path, including the rocky parts.
Our room (Peonies and Ivy) was wonderful, the fireplace kept us cozy and warm.
The restaurant, the hot chocolate bar, personnel were all great. We had a wonderful time!
