Convenient and fully stocked grocery store and affordable prices considering the area.

People at this particular stop and shop are rude as hell are incapable of basic customer service skills and are usually on their phones! They run specials in their adds that the employees can't even understand or are not trained to handle so they either ring it up wrong or overcharge so we have to come back to fix their mistakes... I would recommend going to Shaws or driving to Market Basket if you can! 0 out of 5 stars!

It's a small store, so know that going in. They have the basics and I found mostly everything I needed. The strawberries looked like they'd been there too long. All the pkgs had limp going rotten strawberries. Other fruit was fine and looked fresh. I will say for off season on a Sunday I was disappointed that they ran out of baguette bread by 3:00, so that was a bummer. Check out was normal for S&S. There was one cashier lane and 6 self check outs. Self checkout is fine if you know what your doing and unfortunately many people don't. The person in front of me was only buying 4 items and still needed help on how the register worked and then after she paid, she decided she needed a bag and then she retrieved her change and proceeded to put it in a little purse inside a bigger purse. So that's where the delay is - pay and move it along folks.

its a fine grocery store to get all of the necessities in the heart of Newport. Parking was very easy during off season but probably a nightmare in the summer like everything else in newport. They have an okay selection and lots of self checkout lanes that have a plenty of room and their own conveyor belt so you can bag your groceries.

If there was a zero starS I would. They don't allow my service dog in there which is why I have paid out the a** to only order out as I've been living here for three freaking months. I literally live 100 feet from the store but they're disgusting and say that I'm just abusing service animals by having them in there I refuse them service no matter what it costs me. Well, today I talked to Sara, and she laughed at my circumstances and I got so much even more disgusted that I decided to spend probably 3000 more percent on delivery of anything not having to do with that store

Employees complain loudly in front of customers nearly every time I shop there. Cashiers rarely ever greet you in a friendly manner (if at all), and half the time I bag my own stuff while other employees stand around. I would go to another supermarket if Trader Joe's wasn't an hour away. I blame corporate. Why? Your lines are insanely long (10 deep sometimes) because you only have 2-3 registers open on a busy Saturday. You should have EVERY REGISTER OPEN with the money you are likely raking in. Then maybe people would hate their job less. Some supervisors stand around doing nothing while this is going on and no one seems to want to take initiative. I come from the land of Wegmans...a company that actually cares about innovation and being friendly and how they come across. Stop and Shop seems to have accepted their bad reputation because people still shop there out of convenience.

No one has a clue where things are and they are way under staffed! You'd think Newport would be a top notch place! I'm never coming to this place again!!!

Ehhh... Probably my least favorite grocery store in the area. It's small and expensive, but closest to my house, so I'll go there for last minute items. The aisles are cluttered and crowded. Options are limited, due to the size of the store. So, convenient for last minute basic items, but not great if you're looking for specialty items. The cashiers aren't usually the friendliest, and the lines can be slow.

Holy anomaly, Batman! I can't BELIEVE that, just a stone's throw away from the fabled Newport mansions, and Tennis Hall of Fame, on tony Bellevue Avenue, resides that bastion of blue-collar supermarkets ... a Stop & Shop!! Oh, the horror!!! One would think a Whole Foods Market would be a better socioeconomic fit for the area. Whatever. And, it's not just any Stop & Shop ... this particular branch happens to be one of the most cramped, oddly laid-out Stop & Shops I've ever had the displeasure to set foot in. No, actually, the displeasure commenced before I ever set foot in the store, which anchors a plaza with a rather busy parking lot. Being October, I thought tourist season was over, but there appeared to be tourists wandering aimlessly through the parking lot. They even stood in the middle of traffic lanes, oblivious that they were impeding the forward progress of my rather large, prominently lettered work truck (and yes, this happened to me both arriving AND leaving). I had just finished a long, difficult job nearby. It was Friday, around 2:30 p.m. - well past my normal lunchtime - and I was starving (truth be told, I was hangry, and that may be partly responsible for the sardonic tone of this review). Anyway, I figured I'd stop here and grab a pre-made sandwich that I could eat while I drove back to the shop. It's a small Stop & Shop, and I encountered a human logjam as soon as I entered the door. I had trouble finding the cooler that contained pre-made sandwiches. I walked to the back of the store, only to find the butcher counter. Then, I walked to the left side of the store ... no dice. Finally, I circled around to the front of the store, and spotted the deli counter, with a nearby cooler containing the pre-made sandwiches. Oddly, the deli counter is right next to the express checkout lane. And, there is very little room between the checkout area and the grocery aisles, so as I stood in line, I constantly dodged people still trying to shop. I had to weave and bob so much that I felt like I was trying to do a dance. I can't imagine how much worse it would be if the deli was busy. Word to the wise: if you suffer from claustrophobia, this is NOT the place for you. The express checkout line moved slowly. At first, I thought it was the older cashier taking her time, but she was intentionally trying to kill time because the customer she waited on had sent her teenage son on a last-second mission to try to find one more item. He failed. ("I swear, they must have moved it," he whined to his mother.) But, the cashier wasn't exactly a speed demon, either. She was a little too chatty with the next customer, when she had a growing line, and a hangry plumber who just wanted to get the hell out of this bizarre Stop & Shop. Finally, it was my turn. The cashier asked if I wanted to go back and get a smaller bag of potato chips, so I could get a combo discount. No, I said, I need to hit the road. Besides, I would have needed to literally plow through the growing line of people behind me. Not gonna happen. So, I paid the full boat (that's $11) for the rarified privilege of a pre-made sandwich, Utz chips, Sprite and an Almond Joy candy bar (which I swear they shrunk since the last time I ate one).

With only a couple exceptions, the employees are unfriendly. Live two blocks away but will drive to north Newport location to avid this store. Virtually everyone looks like they hate their jobs. Bad vibe. Go elsewhere.

This store needs a lot of help! Dirty, unorganized, and cramped. The produce is dept. is terrible. They seem to always have empty packing carts in front of the food you are trying to buy. There are carts all over the parking lots. Long lines at the checkout does not help. Just sad. The flower dept. is quite good. The lady "Kathy" who is in charge of the flower department is out wonderful. She take pride in her work! Too bad she retired.
