I just heard on the local news that this facility is having some issues with staffing? My company pays me 24 hrs. per year to do some sort of volunteer work. I'm a bit long in the tooth to heavy physical work but I can talk to animals and do other things. I'm gonna reach out.

Wonderful place - pets well cared for, clean, and staff very friendly. You can tell they care about their little ones.

The shelter has finally reopened to the public. There were several dogs (large and small), 2 bunnies and many cats. The staff was friendly and invited us to tour the dog kennels. I would definitely return if I were looking to add to my family. Right now, I will stick to donating to this local shelter.

The good thing is that there are volunteers here that help and a dog park is nearby. The bad news is that perfectly adoptable dogs stay here way too long. I'm not sure why. Not enough social media attention? No follow through on applications? I just know I've sent many people here and applied myself in the past but never got any follow ups or was able to adopt. I recently filled out another application and followed up after being told to by employee if I didn't hear anything in a few days. So I did and was told to call back again closer to the weekend. My husband called and was told that only volunteers process adoptions. Seeing as how many dogs just stay here it seems they need more volunteers. Hopefully they change how the adoption process works here. I have a friend who is the adoption coordinator at Cranston and she handles it all. Dogs are adopted fairly quickly making room for others.

Got both of my fur babies from here. They were very good to me. Set me up in a cat room to play with the kitties before I took them home. Clean facility; just wish they had a bigger car room rather than cages. Maybe next on the list...

I have been to many shelters, and I feel that Pawtucket is a good one. The facility is very nice, and the staff clearly care a lot for the animals. There appears to be a good turnover of animals, which means they are definitely doing something (or I should say many things) right! That city has A LOT of animals in need so they certainly have their hands full to put it mildly! I think they do a great job, and I would recommend this shelter. Adopt don't shop! :-)

fell in love with a dog at slater park shelter about three weeks ago. i was told i was first on the list went every single day to see this dog and asked everyday when they would start calling for a meet and greet. he was very happy to see me and when i went back today they were taking him out for a meet an great with another family when I asked I was told they go by the dogs needs but if you saw the way they were kept in their crates you wouldnt say that.... and they clearly saw the dog JUMP into my arms while i was getting ready to leave! how can you say they go by his needs when you see how happy he is to see me even in front of other families? not right.... the family must"ve been a friend of one of the dog officers. i WILL be calling the mayors office. i dont think we were treated fairly

Kind of a bummer that you can't pet the dogs, and the selection was sparse. But that probably means dogs are flying off the shelves, and that's gotta be a good thing
