Disappointing Experience – Multiple Ongoing Issues and Poor Management
I rented a 10x15 climate-controlled unit at the Storage Space facility on 145 Corliss St, Providence, RI 02904 in August 2025, attracted by a short-term promotional rate. My problems began on day one. After completing the rental online, I called customer support and was assured I could immediately access my unit and that a lock would be provided. I spent two hours loading my vehicle, only to arrive and find no lock on the unit, no locks available onsite, and no staff present. When I called support again, they acknowledged it was a managerial error but noted it was just after closing time, so I’d have to return the next day. I ended up spending another several hours unloading everything and carrying it back up to my third-floor apartment...wasting an entire evening over an easily avoidable issue.
Over the following weeks and months, the problems only multiplied:
Severe shortage of carts: With a 6-floor building and over 600 units, the facility has only 4–6 moving carts. On most visits, none were available, forcing me to carry heavy items by hand. The manager confirmed this was a known issue, but no additional carts were added.
Elevator outages: Sometimes the elevators were out of service, requiring me to haul belongings up multiple flights of stairs.
Major security concerns: Security gates and the main entrance door malfunctioned repeatedly. On one occasion, the main door was propped open (damaging the sensors) and remained unsecured for 5 consecutive days, allowing unrestricted access to anyone. The manager acknowledged reports of people likely living in units (I heard activity late at night when motion lights were off) and others storing prohibited food and drinks, which I personally observed in open units.
Other inconveniences: Bathrooms are locked outside business hours, forcing customers to find alternatives nearby. All outdoor electrical outlets are permanently disabled, despite being present.
After months of these ongoing issues...with no meaningful improvements...I received notice of a rate increase from $169 to $239/month (a 42% jump) effective January 2026.
Ultimately, I vacated the unit due to consistently poor management, inadequate amenities, serious security lapses, unreliable access to basic tools like carts and elevators, and a complete lack of value for the price. The initial promotional rate was the only positive aspect. everything else made the experience extremely frustrating and not worth continuing. I would not recommend this facility until major improvements are made.
Please see attachments below regarding the open gates (lack of security), the open doors showing the elevators (main entrance for storage usage, wide-open, which require a pin to get in)., Trash left around facility, dirty elevator carpet which smells like urine, etc. All these pictures were taken without me using any pin or security to access or leave the facility. Very problematic. I could enter or leave with no security at all.

This place sucks. No hand trucks or carts ANYWHERE in sight. The ridiculous amount of trips back and forth down the long hallway carry your items one by one makes you realize what a terrible mistake you’ve made and want to pack your stuff back into your vehicle, ask for a refund and NEVER look back!

The staff member here was welcoming, upbeat, and gave us a personal tour of the facility. I've never used a storage facility before, and I pictured one of those bleak catacombs from the movies; this place is immaculate and well lit. The floors are easy to navigate and security system is simple yet effective. I wouldn't say no to lower pricing, but this is a pill I'm willing to swallow. So glad we found this place, so close to our new digs.
