I had my income taxes done each year by someone at KLR. I believe they were always done well. But last year I was surprised at the invoiced amount, so I inquired what it was for. It took a couple of specific requests to get an itemized invoice (the standard invoice each year simply indicated the total amount and that it was for tax assistance). When I did, I discovered charges of $100 for routine email reminders to send in my tax information, or for setting up a standard secure link to upload it. When I expressed surprise, $400 was deducted from last year's invoice. But over the years I must have paid several thousand dollars for hidden charges like those. I asked whether I could be assured they would not continue in the future, and got no reply. I would have hoped that the $400/hour charge for tax assistance would already cover routine emails that were dashed off in a few seconds, but instead each one was assessed a "minimum" 1/4-hour amount, without ever letting me know about it for years. Summary: good tax assistance, but let the buyer beware!

lack of knowledge of tax law as an excuse to "research" and charge for simple questions asked; they failed to file for a tax credit of $1,500 I had; I discovered this by talking to a friend and, "oops", they filed after the fact; after I paid them $1,500, they send me an additional bill for $500; but after several emails asking for a detailed description of the additional services they cannot explain why they are charging it; every time a different explanation.
