We visited when there wasn’t an active show going on. It’s a great art idea and must really bring the community together. It really spans an extensive length along the river.
My two complaints are 1- the lack of safety features along the river: no ladders to climb up, rings to toss in, etc. And 2- the river water is very dirty. I know how easily it is for litter to blow in but the water is putrid & I wouldn’t be caught kayaking in it, even. Does WaterFire contribute to cleanup efforts? I’ll have to look it up!

Very unique and fun experience! I would recommend arriving early to find a place to sit as it gets very crowded and it gets harder to watch standing behind people, especially for kids.

The atmosphere was fun and the fires themselves along with the ceremony was really good. It would have been nice to know what the music and the celebration was actually about instead of just watching it and hearing the music that we did not know the correlation of what was going on. As suspected, the food in restaurants were highly priced. Definitely didn't make a profit on that special occasion but all in all it was a decent evening.

Waterfire needs to be experienced. Words do not do it justice. For me, it was a profound experience from reflecting on the need for community for each of us to not allow our own flame to go out to the sacred experience of walking among people’s wishes and remembrances. It is simply AMAZING.

After being here for my first two viewings of this amazing event from South Main Street Park in 2018 and 2019, I returned to WaterFire in 2025 with nostalgia-driven expectations at the forefront.
This time, I found a seat in Waterplace Park found myself even further inspired and heart warmed by the utterly tremendous display (and its accompanying music) that was occurring in front of me.
In the country that exists today, this sort of tradition is extremely rare but also incredibly important, and I genuinely hope WaterFire is continued for centuries more. Its duration and attention to detail are both impeccable, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
Thank you for the current and future memories.

I really enjoyed water fire. It’s essentially just lighting up some floating wood piles along the river in providence but the atmosphere is fun and there are vendors and food stands. Sometimes they do special events. See it if you’re in town.

Great event, different stands with food and drinks. A good walking stretch with music and food. The fire baskets throughout the street are mesmerizing.
Perfect for romantic dates or outing with friends.
Enjoy! We parked at the State house, it was free and no traffic in or out.
Enjoy!

I attended WaterFire on the Fourth of July and had a wonderful experience. The event was thoughtfully organized and offered a memorable alternative to traditional fireworks. Nearly 100 bonfires lined the rivers, creating an atmosphere that felt both peaceful and inspiring. The combination of music, firelight, and the crowd’s energy made the evening feel special.
It was easy to walk along the riverwalk and take in different perspectives, and the vendors added a nice touch without feeling overwhelming. I appreciated how the event blended art and community in such a unique way. Highly recommend experiencing WaterFire if you’re in Providence.
