I don’t like leaving facilities or places 1 star reviews, but I feel it necessary. I have a 2 year old who was in their child watch center. Background info is that we also go to the mystic ymca too. We would actually mainly go to that one but my child was struggling with his aggression(he gets overstimulated and he likes to run around and he thinks it’s okay to hit/ throw a sword around like he’s fighting) (no it is not okay or acceptable and we work on it a lot together!) (there was a one childwatch staff member who I adored, her name is Diana and she did an above and beyond job watching my son Lorenzo, redirecting him, and making sure he always had a good experience at the child watch center if I could give her 5 stars for her adequacy with children I would) so at the mystic childwatch Lorenzo is allowed to have a bucket of trucks, sit at the top and roll them down! It’s what he always did! So at the westerly one he thought it was okay to do the same thing, but they have a different rule there that no toys are allowed on their indoor jungle gym for safety, totally understandable. When I went to pick him up, an older staff member was complaining to me about how Lorenzo kept trying to put the toy trucks up playscape, as I was trying to explain he’s only confused because in mystic he’s able to do that, she cuts me off, goes up to Lorenzo, and starts yelling at him, NO!!!! TRUCKS ARE NOT ALLOWED UP THERE!!!!! I quickly grabbed him and said okay Lorenzo were going to go home and play with your trucks. You can’t slide them down the slide here. Another instance with the same woman, is holding my child down on her lap when he clearly doesn’t want to be held, he’s yelling and screaming/crying(i felt like I should’ve been grabbed from workout long before it got to this phase) and I’m waiting at the door for like 5 minutes for her to come open it when I’m the mother of the crying screaming child that I could easily go in and calm him down. Not a good experience with this woman at all. As soon as he has a bad experience like this with someone, honestly he will get more defiant. So come a week later (yesterday/last night) I get pulled from my workout for a poopy diaper! Totally cool! I go downstairs, change his diaper in the bathroom, all is good, however I noticed the staff members were really busy talking to each other instead of paying mine to the children(and they already mentioned before the diaper change, your child is getting overstimulated, starting to get aggressive) (there were only 10 kids in there he only gets like that if there are like 15-20 kids or the staff members in there aren’t paying attention to him and he had a bad interaction with another kid) so I did walk up to them after the diaper change and politely said he’ll probably want someone to interact with him while I’m gone since maybe his behavior is changing. They looked annoyed at me because I interrupted their conversation, a woman in her 50s and another woman probably in her 40s, old enough, and this is their job. As picking up Lorenzo, she says Lorenzo was taking a toy and aggressively tapping it another child, (why someone didn’t grab me when this is happening is unknown, Diana would always grab me when something like this happened so he wouldn’t have a negative experience with childwatch but I was able to come down and either redirect him or end the workout for the day) I get a phone call that night from the director of the childwatch who didn’t even want to talk about how her staff also behaved, just immediately banned Lorenzo for 30 days and said I used to be a director of a preschool I know what I’m doing basically. I know I probably sound like a naggy mom but I’m warning other mothers. Hope this helps anyone else, just go to the mystic ymca. It’s a further drive but everyone is nicer at the mystic ymca lol I added a picture of my adorable som and I! I’m super upset that instead of getting me before the aggression got out of control they’re just banning him for 30 days lol because of one bad day they had there.

Birthday parties here are almost 2 hundred dollars for one hour of swimming... crazy to me. The lifeguard during open swim is very mean to young children to an actually concerning level. She ran up to someone's 4 year old, got in his face, and gave him an ultimatum.

Perfect family friendly gym at an affordable price. We leave our toddler at the kids center space while working out and the staff is very attentive and engaging with him. We also enjoy the family swim time and he like swim lessons & gymnastics classes.

Great facility. Very clean and well kept. The staff is great. The girl that runs the front desk is always friendly. Not a huge fan of the overwhelming number of teens in the gym, but they need a place to go too.

The gym and the facility is great. HOWEVER the staff is absolutely horrible. They do NOT give one care in the world about “community” or helping you. They are disgustingly rude, obnoxious and it is very very clear that IT IS JUST A JOB TO THEM. Terrible. Whoever is in charge or manages that place should be ashamed. No one is trained properly, everyone gives you different information. No one cares or takes pride in their job. ??????????

My kids are members of this YMCA! Paying customers, and are being treated like they don’t belong. They have experienced terrible racist comments and bad treatment from staff and other members. I would not recommend this gym to anyone. They have been getting pushed around and bullied on the basketball court, accused of “stealing”another kids keys that were later found under a bench, they have been called poor and broke. This is unacceptable behavior! Something needs to be done!

The Westerly Ymca workers are some of the most miserable people I've ever encountered; I feel like I'm walking into the DMV instead of the gym. Also unheard of for a gym facility to close at 8pm, especially in the summer. If you're going to be miserable, don't take it out on your paying customers!

Very beautiful building with awesome layout and staff. I just wish it was a little more affordable, but then again the $54/month pushes me to keep going to the gym to make sure I've invested wisely

Always clean and well maintained, this YMCA is excellent! They have two large swimming pools and many fitness classes to choose from. The locker room is large and always clean. Great place for a workout!!

As a Silver Sneakers member, I find the Westerly-Pawcatuck YMCA to be user-friendly and clean, with friendly and knowledgeable staff. I mostly practice Yoga and swim laps for my personal wellness. The Yoga instructors have years of experience and inspire physical and soulful searching. Their classes have normally no more than 16-20 persons, of all ages and abilities. The swimming facilities are separately built for either families and those who are not strong swimmers and also for lap swimmers, for exercise and for competition. Join this great institution and you are automatically welcomed to visit the Mystic YMCA, not far away.

This Y does not participate in the Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO program. You have to pay the full membership price.
