First impressions are lasting impressions. Please pass this on to the pump attendant with long dreads and sunglasses at 8 in the morning. “You’re gonna shut that car off, right?” is probably not the best approach to asking a customer to do something. A little tact goes a long way. Furthermore, it’s only precautionary the vehicle is shut off as a fuel injected internal combustion engine at 10 degrees in the wind isn’t going to explode. Secondly, make sure he doesn’t have his cell phone in his pocket when he’s pumping gas. There’s more than enough evidence to show an engine has more internal integrity than a flimsy cell phone to initiate a spark related incident. Nevertheless, a little tact goes a long way in the customer service industry. And appearances are everything.
