Location is great. Be aware that parking lot always says full but we tried and were able to get a ticket. If you don’t get a ticket, you’re out of luck so if you can get in, leave your car there for your stay and use Uber or Bike Trips if you can’t walk to where you want to go. Room was tiny. Bed small and uncomfortable. Shower was fine but don’t expect to enjoy staying in your room if it’s raining. No breakfast but a nice wine and cheese hour at 5p. Nasty gentleman when I first called to ask questions about parking and breakfast. On location, slightly better. Bare bones quality and web description and photos make it look way better than it is. Nestled between two restaurants so there is noise if your room is near. A/C stays on continuously so that’s noisy too. Spend more for a better place downtown if you want to be right in the thick of it.

I’ve stayed at the Elliott House Inn twice and both times were great. The staff were friendly, the rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. We stayed in room 19 and there were no issues with noise. The location is great; restaurants and shops within walking distance. The courtyard is very pretty and quiet with ample seating. And, they offer wine and cheese in the evenings for anyone interested in that. The only parking is across the street and it’s a daily $20 charge. We didn’t have any issues with parking when we arrived nor any time we left and came back. I read the negative reviews and thankfully those were not our experiences. I would definitely stay here again.

I really try to stay in boutique hotels when I can, but this one was a miss.
Upon check in, the host welcomed us but also made a comment that we'd gotten a discount on our room. Why yes, you offer a discount and I'll take it. Warren Buffett would do the same. Our room was off the courtyard. It was a place with A/C and hot water. The window looked out on the staircase of the restaurant next door, the bathroom needs a deep clean (mildewy shower head), and the door lock didn't work well. It does have a courtyard and they offer coffee in the am and wine/cheese in the afternoon. The location is what you get for the money. That said, I'd take my money again next door to the Mills House if I wanted to be in this hood.

⭐️⭐️
Location & Ambiance: Elliott House Inn boasts a fantastic location and a charming backyard where guests can enjoy complimentary coffee all day—a lovely touch for relaxation.
Room Concerns: Unfortunately, our stay was dampened by significant issues. The room had a persistent musty smell and felt uncomfortably humid. The moisture was so extreme that towels never fully dried, and we noticed mildew on silicone seals (likely in the bathroom).
Service Note: Room cleaning required explicit requests rather than being part of a daily routine, which felt inconvenient for a hotel stay.
Potential: With attention to ventilation, dehumidifiers, and proactive housekeeping, this charming spot could truly shine. The foundation is there—it just needs refining.

the good: location, the small courtyard was charming and cute.
the bad: the shower curtain in the bathroom was covered with mold, we had to ask them to change to a new one (really questioned the overall cleanness of the room, but we toughed up and stayed here for few nights while in town); the room was very humid, many corners in the room looked moldy; the front desk when we were checking out was not friendly at all. I would never stay here ever again, nor would recommend anyone to stay here.

The room and the location is excellent and we enjoyed our stay - with one exception - the person at the front desk was very rude when I asked for help with the hot water on our first morning there. Not a very pleasant way to start a vacation.

This place is only ok! I would give it 5 stars if I didn't wake up to birds, the neighbors were not as loud, truck sounds, and if the toilet would flush every time. We actually called the front desk about the toilets and they seem not bothered that it would not flush and said you just need to jiggle it or it sometimes the flapper. So this seems like a reoccurring issue.
Parking- the lot across the street. Even if it says full. It's $20 a night. Hold on to your ticket and pay at the booth before you get to your car. This is a good tip, b/c I had to call the front desk to the inn and drive around the block again when we saw the lot was full. They also said if it was actually full to go another block to the next one that might also say full.
The 5pm wine, snacks and cheese was very good and The coffee in the morning was also tasty. The courtyard also pleasant. Meeting Street inn is much better than the Elliott House inn.

DO NOT STAY HERE, unless you’re attending a wedding at the Gibbs Museum. The location of this hotel is tempting, however if there’s an event or wedding you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SLEEP. The music was so loud it shook the entire room. Could hear every single word of every song. I wouldn’t be surprised if the actual guests suffered hearing loss. I spoke to front desk and the gentleman immediately said it was Gibbs Museum and that the noise ordinance doesn’t start until 11pm….Awesome bc we have a 2 yr old and it ruined our entire weekend. Don’t waste your money at this hotel.Don’t just take my word for it, please take a minute to look at other reviews, the hotel has a pattern of making excuses for not accommodating simple guest requests to accident room lockouts, to roaches, to water gushing from the bathrooms.

I get it. You need a place downtown. Don’t make my mistake and stay here. If you go with small children it is highly likely you will get blasted by the wedding DJ next door. I called the front desk before booking and told them I’m bringing a small child, 2 yr old. The clerk encouraged me that kids were welcome. Of course the front desk throws its hands up during the onslaught of white wedding rap.UPDATE, so emptying out our room and pre checkout at 9 am management sends people into our room and empties our belongings into trash bags saying we checked out. So that was nice parting gift.

Perfect location. Lots of great food nearby, easy walk to all the interesting sights. Not a ton of frills but the service was cheerful and helpful and the room was comfortable and clean. Next time we’re in Charleston we’re staying here.Rooms: If you like cookie cutter rooms this isn’t your style. It’s a historic building refurbished without a huge budget; the floors aren’t level and the walk-in closet wasn’t finished. Big room, though, and comfy bed.Nearby activities: The Charleston Market is a few blocks away. You’re really in the heart of things.Walkability: Incredibly walkable. Three great restaurants on the same block, a Target nearby for anything you forgot, etc.Food & drinks: No room service but coffee available in the morning and a wine and cheese table in the evenings.

So, I've seen some harsh reviews of this place. I got exactly what I paid for. An ok room with a comfy bed and hot water in a killer location. There were no frills, but none were promised. The room was hot, cold, and humid at the same time, but that's Charleston weather for you. It's a cool place if you expect a room commensurate with the nightly cost.

No coffee or microwave in the rooms. Room size was very small. General manger was rude on the phone.

The hotel itself was nice enough and in a good location, and I would have expected to have a pleasant stay from first impressions. However the service was so-so, and seemed ill equipped to manage any negative experiences that arose for guests.I was woken up by a leak from the bathroom ceiling at 5am, pouring water onto the toilet and flooding the bathroom floor. I had to figure out how to contact the front office, and ended up calling the main line and then the after hour number a bit before 6am. I was told that the issue couldn't be addressed until later in the day (understandable at 6am), however, where I take issue is how everything was handled from this phone call forward.I never received confirmation that they were going into my room, or that the issue has been resolved. I received no offer of compensation or remediation, nor as much as an acknowledgement or apology for the inconvenience of the issue. Further, the clean up job was mediocre, the toilet seat was still wet when I used it later that day. This was also all very inconvenient as it 1) woke me up at 5am, 2) made it impossible to use the bathroom at all, 3) was not handled well by staff.Check out the video, this was taken when the leak had started to slow down...Rooms: Rooms were mediocre, before the bathroom ceiling leak, also not well insulated so very noisy due to location in the middle of the cityWalkability: Very walkable and a great location.

Maybe bc we’d just come from a 5 star hotel in Charlotte, that the inn wasn’t exactly as we expected. Great location, clean room, cute courtyard, and nice enough bed/ shower. But NO HOUSEKEEPING or trash pick up, coffee served outside was luke warm, phone didn’t really access front desk, broken wall socket, and staff seemed slightly disenchanted like they need a bit of love from corporate for their job. Noise level was fine, great restaurants nearby, just not a $300/ night hotel. They could take it up a notch and make it stellar w better mattresses and on staff housekeeping.Nearby activities: Lots of choicesWalkability: Easy walk ability.
