My grandparents are active members/contributors to this church. Grandma passed away last night and we are looking for a memorial service arrangement on coming Saturday 4/29. When we came to the church asking for a plan (we only need a place as we already have a pastor, a pianist and singer), the person said: Sat is not a good day for us.As we were wondering what special event the church has on that day to stop them from hosting a memorial service for a dedicated member, we found that they are having a golf tournament for missionaries fundraiser. How is it not possible to have the tech person come over on Saturday to set up the system so we can have the service? The attitude of that person is not exemplifying Jesus at all. How can he respond to families who just lost loved ones by saying “Sat is not a good day for us” when he doesn’t even talk to the senior church leader first?! This is not Jesus like to anyone.I think church leader not only need to preach for people to believe god, but also coach members to live a life like Jesus.

This year was my son’s second year in the Mother’s Day Out weekday preschool program at Fairview Baptist Church in Greer. His teacher from last year, Mrs. Theresa, was awesome. She was kind, patient, empathetic, positive, and understanding. I believe that his teacher from the twos class is not any of these things. My son goes to our gym’s daycare an hour everyday and has never had any of the problems this teacher has brought up. If we have these problems at home, they are few and far between and he is disciplined every single time the way his occupational therapist has suggested. I do not condone my son’s behavior. He acts up when he doesn’t get his way, is facing a new/different/out of routine situation, and during transitions. He has sensory sensitivity issues. He escalates when he is touched before he has the time needed to calm down (2 -3 minutes in a calm, quiet place to sit down). His occupational therapist and I sent the director a thorough list of strategies for helping my son with his sensory needs. Only about 2 of these suggestions were used before I was told my son had to stay out for a week (which I had already paid for). Before this, I was called to pick my son up early due to him once again acting like a typical 2 year old. They’re called terrible twos for a reason.I will not take my son back to this program. I will find somewhere else for him to go that his mental, social, and emotional needs can be met. I am very hurt and offended by how my son and I have been treated. I work hard and spend $225 a month on 3 days a week for my son to get exposure to children his age and the additional structure of the preschool setting but instead all he is faced with is impatience, intolerance, and negativity. All I am faced with is accusations of letting my child stay up too late, asking if that is the reason for his crankiness, and judgement. The teacher even told me the other children in my sons class were starting to become “afraid of him.” My son is a very energized, excitable toddler but he has never been hurtful, mean, or malicious to another child.Their expectations of a 2 year old are more on a 4 year olds level. And that is just not the reality of a 2 year olds emotional development. My son is in speech therapy because he does not have the language to say how he feels or how he is upset. He throws tantrums like any 2 year old. He is in occupational therapy because he does not have the skills to cope or self soothe himself yet. He has sensory sensitivity issues, especially defensiveness to touch. He has an early interventionist to help with all of these issues. And they had no intention of being patient or understanding of his needs.“He won’t listen to the teacher” was told to me almost daily in the first 3 weeks of the program. What two and three year olds follow directions with no fuss? The teacher was very short with him. He needs time and patience like any other toddler. The way the teacher and the director describe my son it’s like he is a barbarian. My son is a sweet, caring, and polite little boy who has his terrible two year old moments. But I did not even receive any positive feedback at all whatsoever from his teacher until I brought her negative attitude towards my son up to the pastor. The teachers should really be trained on the development of toddlers, special needs, mental health, and disabilities. And not to assume it is all environmental. My son receives structure, consistency, and intervention at home. I am working constantly on his behavior. He has 3 appointments a week with ST, OT, and EI. If he acts out, it’s because he’s being approached in a way he doesn’t like.I do not feel comfortable taking my son back here. I am very displeased and disappointed with how the church’s children’s preschool is represented and the short patience with a two year old’s temper tantrums that are triggered by his sensory sensitivity. If you want your two year old to be in a patient, nurturing, and loving care, this is not the Mother’s Day Out preschool program for you.
