December 2022 by Adam J.
This was done just before the Christmas weekend. The time originally promised to do the job (1 hr 20 min) was long for the scope of the job (oil change, rotate tires). After 2 hours since I gave them my vehicle, I came to my advisor expecting to see it ready. But it wasn't available and she told me that they (the mechanic) had computer problems. I was bothered that she didn't inform me of the extended wait and I instead found this out by approaching them. I think that my advisor failed to keep communication with me and this should have been done once she knew that the time would have been extended. It's not like I'm sitting around, "Hey, let's go spend/waste some time at the Honda dealership on a Wednesday afternoon! Doing what? Oh, I don't know, just hanging around." Time is important and you guys have local competitors that are advertising with huge signs on their front, literally saying, "Fastest Oil Change on the Planet." Pretty impressive... Go look it up if you think I'm joking (Northwood and S Lake Dr). So I was given a new estimated wait time of 10 minutes, which turned out to be BS. The level of clarity that I wanted to know, and I would hope my advisor would do, is to figure out what exactly is being done with my vehicle (Are they still on the oil change? Are they finally rotating the tires?) and where in the process they are (Did they just open the oil plug? Did they put in the new oil? Did they pull off the first tire? Did they re-mount the last tire?). That way, presuming she knows how these jobs are done and how long they could be reasonably expected to take, she could give me a better estimate instead of just looking at a screen and letting only that be her guide. I sense that this did not happen. So it was about 2.5 hours when I finally got my vehicle back. To try and smooth it over, she threw in an additional maintenance item that the car needed but was not originally requested (I indicated that I would do that job at a future time, but did not object to this being done in light that this is saving me some money, time, and logistics for working on the vehicle). This isn't the first time that the routine maintenance visit took longer than expected. For the next visit, I think getting a different advisor is not enough; I think I might go to a different location altogether. For the future, maybe you should train your advisors to keep better tabs with their customers and keep better tabs with what is going on with the vehicles. That way they're not relying on looking at a screen/system, which is reliant on several inputs and what is happening in the larger picture. They can figure that for themselves and give a more quantitative time estimate.

Amazing experience ! They gave me a few courtesy calls prior to my appt. My service advisor Mr. Murl was so helpful, sweet, and an absolute pleasure. They accessed my car quickly and provided me with options and more info. My car was fixed in a few short hours! Mr. Tom, shuttle driver, was great! He took me home and provided me with great conversation during the ride. Would recommend!

I drive nothing but Hondas and have a private mechanic, but will use Honda of Columbia for a lot of my maintenance needs. I have no experience with the sales part of this dealership, as I have always noticed it is almost always cheaper to buy a gently used Honda from anywhere other than a Honda dealership. The service department, however, always does a great job getting me in and out in a timely manner. My only complaint is that I have been given two costly major estimates on supposed system failures. One quote was for $1,900 on an oil pump, the other was $2,200 on a power steering pump. Given the cost of these repairs, I got second opinions and discovered that the oil pump was fine (just dirty from spilled oil) and the power steering pump simply needed a new 5 dollar "O" ring for a total cost of $25 with labor out the door from my private mechanic. This concerns me because I am sure there are many folks out there who would simply not get another opinion and pay whatever they are told to pay on a repair that may not need to happen; especially my elderly in-laws who also own Hondas. For this, I have to give 4 stars instead of a full 5. The employees, especially Kayla Hoover, Austin Barlow and Murl Hope, are really good people and genuinely care about you and your vehicle. Be sure to ask questions about your actual warranty on all parts and repairs; especially if you have something fixed under the existing factory warranty. You may or may not be covered for as long as you think on some parts and repairs. Other than these points, all in all, this Honda service department is your best option for genuine Honda service in Columbia!

My car's splash shield was hanging by one bolt! David Morrow of Honda of Columbia rescued me! He calmed me down and took care of the repair easy peasy. His help and the reassurance of all who helped me at this dealership was amazing! What a great group! Thank you, thank you.

They took my car earlier than the appointment time and finished faster than promised. This trip was to add a dealer-installed part on a new car.

My mother has taken her Ridgeline there over 7 times to get issues, both initial and recalls, taken care of while under warranty. The last time she was told ( I will not say his name) that she was imagining it and no one else had those problems. So basically this little POS. Told my mother that she was an old d*** woman and then he told her take her issues elsewhere. She then talks to someone at another NEW Honda dealership in town and they asked her if Honda of Columbia #1 did they ride with you to see your issues:..NO They then asked if they looked at 3 other parts that could be the culprit. They then went on to say the service manager would take his time to look at the vehicle. The owner should be ashamed of the way they treat their customers, especially women who are known to be treated as ignorant and stupid by men in the automotive industry. Also, for the man who told my mother she was imagining things....I would put her against you any day to repair anything. She taught me to do plumbing, tile, electrical, and yes automotive. I hope you don't treat women in your family the way you treated my mother. You don't deserve the one star!!!

I needed new tires and a front in alignment. It was super busy but Kayla took great care of me. After my car was fixed she explained and provided an explanation on how my old tires was effected because of the need of the front end alignment.

UPDATE: went there again and service side ran smooth with Jared Goodman being on top of my needs despite the front of the shop being down 2 people. The shuttle driver even called out so the service manager stepped up to fill that role. Still had to wait a long time for the return shuttle, but considering their shuttle driver called out it was not too bad. They could have not done the shuttle at all. You can still tell this place is under staffed but you can tell as much that they care about doing the best job they can for you. Bumped rating up a star for the effort I clearly saw.

We had taken my pilot to a few places trying to figure it out. We were told we needed a nee motor. Spent time to actually diagnose the problem. Turns out every single valve was off. All them. They fixed it for a great price.

This is my second Honda I have purchased from Honda of Columbia and it is always a pleasure dealing with this business whether it is for a new car or a routine oil change. Jared Goodman was exceptionally professional and prompt on my online appointment for an oil change/tire rotation. I needed two air filters and received a phone call to confirm and everything was in a timely manner. Simply the best, Shan

My go to for any vehicle issues & maintenance , I have confidence in the diagnosis and the repair itself. Preston is fantastic, you can't go wrong working with him he is a stand up guy !! Honestly he is the main reason I even trust in this specific location! I enjoy the shuttle service and how convenient it is for me to be dropped off while I go back to work. This Honda location has serviced my family and I throughout the years and I've always been overly satisfied. P Davis

and so we did. I bought my car from Honda of Columbia and have used them for all my routine maintenance ever since. I was in NC when I had to be towed to local company due to a dead battery. I had been driving my car most of the day so I was surprised when it wouldn't start after I made a quick purchase in the grocery store. Usually a dead battery is discovered when you first try to crank it in the morning so I was questioning why the battery had gone dead. I couldn't remember the last time I had the battery replaced. I called Preston in Columbia and he was able to look my maintenance record up it showed I had not had my battery replaced there---my car is 7 years old so I'm sure it didn't have the original battery. Preston told me that if it was the original Honda battery would say Honda on it. Preston also explained two different techniques for assessing whether the battery was a candidate for being recharged We looked & discovered it was a AAA battery----I called AAA to see if they had a record of when my battery was changed---they did and were able to tell me where I was at the time and it had been more than 3 years ago. Once again, I called Preston to ask if I should just replace battery versus trying to charge it for hours. He advised me that the life of a battery is about 3 years & I should replace it. I trust them with taking care of my car and appreciate that they are always friendly, helpful, and courteous and take the time to answer any any of my questions.

The thing I hate most when shopping for cars is when dealers modify the car immediately and apply their own additional window sticker with their markup. Not only do *I* want to decide on the options for my car, but I don't want to have to now negotiate on that markup as well. So I was very pleased to find that Honda of Columbia does not participate in this markup scheme. My salesman was Andrew Schmidt and he was great. I was treated with respect the whole time I was at the dealership, and I was offered a fair price and little need for negotiation. My finance manager Adam showed me all of the extended warranty options, put no pressure on me, and even told me what I didn't need. Just a great experience overall. I drove to Columbia from the Hilton Head area where I live, and plan to drive back for my service needs; that's how good I feel about the place. Thanks everyone!
