Summer means less traffic, more time, and hotter weather, so I decided to check out some of the boutique fitness studios around town- including Pure Barre Mt. Pleasant (South). The Pure Barre studio itself is fairly small but welcoming. You don't have to arrive super early to set up equipment or stations, and most people walk in shortly before class time. There's one bathroom in the back, along with cubbies for your phone and personal items. For the class, bring a water bottle and sticky socks- if you don't own a pair, you can buy them in-house. Tip: The socks are one of the least expensive Pure Barre branded items you can buy. My first class was with an instructor named Kelsey. We talked a bit before class and she demonstrated a few signature moves for me, like tucking (oh, the infamous tucking!). I've since taken classes with a few instructors, and every one is very positive during class, even encouraging students by name. They also offer adjustments and alternative exercises if you're struggling with an injury or setback. Pure Barre is a solid workout. Even coming from a fitness background, the core section helped me discover muscles I didn't know existed- especially the next day. I used the 2lb weights in the first class to learn the moves, but quickly moved up to the 3lb ones. Larger weights are offered, but never underestimate how tough pulsing small weights can be. Start small until you understand the moves. If you're active in another sport, Pure Barre is a great cross training activity to exercise other muscles, like stabilizing core, thigh, and glute muscles that may not get as much attention from running or other cardio. I also like that class is exactly 50 minutes and you don't leave drenched in sweat. The class isn't heated, so you can run errands or go to Whole Foods next door without having to change clothes or dripping sweat all over your car seats. Classes are even offered around noon, and if I worked in the area, I could see myself doing that as a lunch-break workout.

Today I did barre for the first time! My instructor, Patty and the rest of the staff were so helpful, sweet, and encouraging!! Even though it was challenging, I didn’t feel intimidated by the atmosphere like I thought I would. I will definitely be back because they made me feel so comfortable and at home. Amazing workout! :)

What an amazing teacher and class format. Just when you think you're strong you do something that shows you there's a lot more to do. Thanks Pure Barre Mt. P for cranking up my Saturday!

My first time ever at Purre Barre. Everybody was so nice from the minute I walked in. Very helpful and made me feel comfortable. Class was fast paced, but I felt like I could do what I could. Never pushed to do more than capable. Great studio!

This was my first time trying Pure Barre. I've had 2 back surgeries and am always being very cautious on what exercises I do. I loved this exercise program/class because it was very targeted on all the areas needed to prevent any future injuries. It hits all the areas needed to improve your look and strengthen you over all!

Pure Barre hosted a workout for our High School Basketball Team today. It was a fast paced, high energy workout that pushed our team to the max. Our players had an awesome experience that they will not soon forget. The staff is amazing and the facility is clean and inviting! We look forward to coming back in the near future!

Love this place!! Everyone at Pure Barre really does care about their clients. It is such a positive atmosphere, and the instructors are always happy to help you modify anything. I went to Pure Barre because of an injury to my lower back. I was unable to do my normal routine and thought I'd try pure barre to help my core. Well, i have ended up sticking with it because it is such an amazing workout! My core is much stronger, my back is much stronger, and my entire body has changed. Can't give the instructors at this location enough praise though- their knowledge, attitudes, and love of fitness is just great to be around!
