While my juvenile heart still yearns for yesteryears malls, you know the ones with Merry Go Round, Alladins Castle, Orange Julious, etc I realize those are long gone with the ease and convivence of Amazon. Which begs the question, is it not therapeutic to leisurely walk around and enjoy the day, unencumbered by technology? Village Point in Mt Pleasant is an outdoor mall which capture more of a built into nature shopping experience while having the convivence of not having to enter into a large multifaceted facility to shop. Driving around the various shops is relatively easy with sensible road to storefront ratios. While there are a few out of service facilities and vacant buildings, the majority of the stores have owners. Moreover the variety of shops, restaurants, parking ect seem to be in perfect harmony in terms of placement. Finally there is something for everyone here, in the context of small box shopping, in other words no Walmart! Upscale dining to fast food, Belks and Buckle, a movie theatre and a high class jewelry store, they all fit snuggly together with warmth and care. I had some time to kill so I walked the whole premises and it was a pure joy. Fountains strategically placed along with park benches, round-abouts funnel cars in a proficient manner almost in a choreographed elegant dance along predetermined paths. Also the landscaping is all done with indigenous trees, shrubbery, etc designed to welcome tourist and keep the natives from becoming restlessness! All in all Village Point is a great place to leisurely shop and enjoy a day with something for everyone. It's conveniently located by the connector, 17 and Hungry Neck Blvd so access isn't an issue as well as lots of parking and a parking garage as well. I encourage anyone who has some shopping yet wants to enjoy being out to stop by and relax, that's what people in Charleston do best, move in low gear and enjoy yourself.
