I have had this rental unit for about 2 months now. The day I moved in , I couldn't get in the gate. I was on the phone with customer service for over 30 mins trying to get in with the codes that they provided. The second time I went to the storage. The same thing. The gate was down and I couldn't get in. So when I get the chance. I will be moving .The only thing they are fast at doing is sending out emails for payment !

Would Give them a zero if i could, This place was decent when it was Smiths Storage, Otter took over and doubled the rent in less than a year, Then at the end of April i went to my unit only to find it had been rat infested and there was water Dripping from the ceiling, rat feces & urine, mold from the water leak. My furniture had been chewed by the rats, I immediately call customer service and advise them of the situation as well as taken photos and sending them to customer service, was advised to call there insurance company, in which i did and was notified about a week later that i was not covered for damages and I should report it to my Insurance company. After a couple weeks They told my that they accept no responsability as to the situation however They did raise the rent once again making it double in less than a year. After more calls to customer service they tried to move me to another unit in whichI refused because it shared the same back wall as my unit, i stayed in my unit they offered me a little discount on the price. I returned to unit a few more times to clean and salvage my furniture and other belongings, Then on Sept 1 23 I returned to my unit to find it had a lock on it that was not mine I got cust service on the phone they gave me the code for the lock when i opened the unit it was empty. Then they told me to check the unit that they tried to transfer me to in which i did and it was also empty,and they could not tell me where my belongings were. Oh I did get calls from customer service telling me my rent was past due for September. I guess they expected me to pay rent after they stole my Belongings. I tried to contact them several times since, as well as the corp office but keep getting the same Person named Mike who as very rude and continues to call me a liar and says there is no documentation and you a liar and he was ending our relationship today, I found another contact for Otter Corporate get a recording that some one will call you back shortly leave a message. about 30 min later I get a Call back, It was this Rude guy Mike again he tells me that they record all calls and he reviewed the previous call an he never called me a liar, then proceeds to tell that I lied to Him once again and called me a liar again. is there any thing else i can do for you ? I said How about a refund on the two months rent that i paid on my empty unit His response No, tell me were my belongings are His response No, This company Needs to be Investigated By the Feds as they do Business In multiple states,

I rented a parking space here for years going back to the previous owner. Once Otter took over, I've had nothing but steady rent increases. The locks on my trailer have been cut multiple times during my stay. I've been over there and the gate was wide open and didn't close. There was also a time recently when we couldn't get in because the gate was closed and not working. The previous management was on site much of the time. Otter manages remotely. I've never seen an Otter manager or employee on premises. It got to the point that I had to put a GPS tracker on my trailer because I didn't feel it was secure at Otter's facility. In my opinion, there are much better options for storage and trailer/boat/vehicle parking in the Myrtle Beach area.

I've had nothing positive to say about Otter Storage in Myrtle Beach since they took over. My original rate 8 years ago with Smith's was $72/month. It increased to $86/month by the next owner and since Otter took over it has gone up to $138/month for a 10x15. Same unit...longtime customer....no thank you for supporting our business...nothing! There is no one in the office anymore if you have a problem, trash (sofas, furniture, junk) gets left by units, dirt roads getting to units have potholes or overgrown trees/bushes, and the gate has broken down several times. The posted rate (not promo) online is cheaper for new customers than existing customers pay and when you call customer service they are out of state and give you different answers to the same question or you have to wait for a supervisor to respond. I've found other facilities in the area cheaper but I don't have a way to move my stuff out so I'm stuck in a "sorry" self-storage facility! Don't rent from them if you can go somewhere else!

I wouldnt recommend this facility for anyone . i have been there for a little over a year. had a 10 x10 and a parking space for my utility trailer. There has been 3 rental increases in that time, all are suppossedly for upgrading the facilities. yet last week my trailer was stolen, the police officer who investigated told me this wasnt the first occurence and when i responded that it should be easy catching the criminals because of all the cameras, he replied "yeah, except none of the cameras work." So where are the improvements from the rental increase going? And when i called to ask since it was the middle of the month and my trailer was no longer there ,would i get reimbursed for the rest of the month?, they said " No, we dont do that". Im saying go look at the place before you decide to use them. theres literally 100s of storage places all around the area. make sure your paying for SAFE and PROTECTED space for your property.

There are storage rooms open, still full of stuff. Looks like someone just threw their stuff out, right in the middle of where you drive. Pretty nasty.

My price had increased 18% and since I began renting, large holes in the road inside the fence have opened up and not been repaired and today. 10/02/2022, there was trash everywhere inside the rental area. I also had a leak occur inside the unit .Now, I would love to read a response because they should not of raised my rate at all. They told me it was raised for maintenance but I've yet to see any maintenance or improvements to the site. Prices on services like storage are way to much if my opinion matters at all to them and I was born and raised here! Everybody is out to retire off the backs of others and I don't see how that is COOL at all! It's a 10 by 10 for $118.00

Very clean and secured facility. Although not owned locally, very easy to communicate with and pay your bill without going to the office. This facility was owned locally and took care of the place.

Liars. They say that the units are 10x15 but they're 10x10 and won't give you an adjustment for that. False advertisement!I will consider taking the review down if justice is made and someone calls me to make this right

The worst ever! I was lied to and paid in full almost five years and it all went to an auction that I was never able to find. Christine wells manager the worst made every excuse in the world. I am very upset with this company I would ever ever recommend trusting them.

This rating is temporary until our issue is taken care of, otherwise.. IM ABOUT TO FLIP THE F OUT!!!! BECAUSE...THE UNIT WE RECIEVED IS A 10x10(10x10.5), instead of our 10x15 internet ordered on companys website, paid in advance, and told to be clean & move in ready. NOPE.10X10, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE...even that lives off site or to call or online help haha just an email address given to me, REALLY DUSTY DIRTY UNIT, WEED ARE ALMOST UP MID WAYS TO THE PULL UP GARAGE DOORS, NO ELECTRICAL OUTLETS, VERY VERY VERY BAD LOW LIGHTING in a spooky could be very dangerous spot!!!!iiiii Definitely not for women at night!!Very competitive prices though are great!! ☆☆

See update below. Take your business elsewhere unless you enjoy non-responsive management who doesn’t follow through on their promises.Incredibly poor customer service. We had a family member pass while renting two of these units. We have repeatedly contacted this facility over the past four weeks and have yet to get anyone from management to talk to us about getting access to the units. We have been forced to pay yet another month of rent, despite the fact that we have been ready and willing to get the items out of storage prior to the rent due date. The call center employees are friendly, but are only able to answer a few questions without authority from the management. The management is extremely poor. It is very disappointing that we are having so many issues gathering the assets of our loved one. Would not recommend this facility to anyone.UPDATE:After reviewing the response from management attempting to minimize my prior review, I feel compelled to provide some additional information.After a month of attempting to contact this facility, I was contacted within minutes of leaving the review below. If you are unsatisfied with your experience at Otter Storage, leave a review - apparently that’s the only thing they respond to.Management indicated that negative reviews hurt their business and asked if I would consider removing my review if they could provide a refund for the last month that we were forced to pay due to their non-responsiveness. I said I was amenable to that depending on the manner in which they responded as we concluded our business.After (finally) receiving access to move out our loved one’s belongings, we sent confirmation to Management and requested that they process our refund. Rather than issue the refund as-promised, they instead went ghost and posted their response below.Management, the purpose of a review is to provide information to potential customers about our experience. The fact that I am no longer a customer does not diminish my experience, nor does it change the fact that my experience with Otter Storage was overwhelmingly negative. I want others to be fully aware of who they are dealing with when they decide to spend their hard-earned money. Hope that last month of rent was worth it.

Generally not one to leave reviews. This storage facility was great until the transfer to Otter. I have a 15x15 climate controlled unit and a 5x10 standard unit. The climate controlled unit has lights inside the unit that “mysteriously” stopped working 7 months ago. Over the past 7 months I have called customer service (because there is no on site employee) at least 5 times requesting for this issue to be resolved. So much so, that the customer service employee, knows me by name. I did receive a call from a regional manager that gave me a free month. He also said he would have the issues fixed…… to this day, the lights do not work. Otter has steadily raised the rent on both units while 1 remained not fully functional. The facility as a whole is not in great shape. New wasp nests every time I go by. Customer service is quite nice, but nothing is being done to solve this issue. Bottom line, I would not expect to receive even moderately good service from the Myrtle Beach location. This is a great location for me, which is the only reason why I’m still there. Next step for me is moving out.

Find out 2 weeks after renting the unit they are charging me $20 more per month than my online quote. Too late to do anything about it now, because I'm in Europe for the next 5 months. They emailed the contracts to me on my phone while I was waiting at the gate to move my things in, and I had to electronically sign the 7 page letter on my phone at 5:30pm on July 28th while it was 100° out in myrtle beach after all day packing and moving before they would give me the gate code. Scam, not a very nice facility, and there is nobody on property.. it's an unmanned facility. I was given instructions to be there to move in before 6pm or there would be nobody there to grant access. Needless to say i will eat the extra $100 because it wouldn't be worth my trouble, but i hope at least my review will keep someone else from being ripped off.
