Egg Tarts and other goodies! As we stroll through China Town, finding the "famous egg tarts" we find it closed.. For three weeks!! Sadly to disappoint my relatives from Arizona who came to visit. Any who, we stumbled upon this bakery. It's very small and crowded but does remind me of Hong Kong! Fresh bakery items. So yummy and staff are so positive and jolly! Though their egg tarts aren't the best, for $1 each, that's a great deal!!! Pro : - Cheap bakery items - Fresh - Friendly Staff Con : - Small and Crowded

Came here because golden gate bakery was closed =( All we got was the egg tart and it was good. There were a lot of Chinese grandparents sitting and lounging at the tables but we were helped very quickly. No line whatsoever.

I tried y'all. I tried really hard to like the egg tart. But it was the worst part of and egg and the worst part of a tart mashed together. The service was good and the people were friendly, but I can not recommend for you to try the egg tart. We tried getting one at Golden Gate Bakery but they were sold out so we came here. My friend and I almost spit it on the sidewalk but we minded our manners and swallowed it. It was just not good. I have no idea if people who like egg tarts would like this one. But I know now that I don't like them and will most likely never try it again.

Golden Gate bakery was closed so we found this chinese bakery nearby. But their egg tarts were just average, nothing special. I was able to find an expensive $5 moon cake there though and that tasted pretty good. The service there was just okay except they wouldn't let us have a pink box unless we paid extra for it?! I've never heard of that. So deducting a star for that. How cheap. Cash only.

1 star because the lady behind the counter was nice. The rest is terrible. Egg tart is just about the worst I've ever had. The swiss roll tasted old and off. Yuk! Had to throw them out.

I was in SF for a few days on business a couple weeks ago, and happened to be staying right in the heart of Chinatown, so I made it my mission to try a different Chinese bakery for breakfast every morning. I got an egg tart at each one, plus whichever savory pastry looked the best or that they were most known for. If I couldn't decide, as was the case here, I went with a hot dog roll, so I could compare them the closest. Of them, I'd say this was probably my favorite, especially for the value - granted, all of the places I tried were pretty cheap (the most I spent for breakfast any day was $3.50), but this one was the cheapest, with both items being just a dollar! Obviously that only matters if they're also good, but they absolutely were. The hot dog was just bread and hot dog, nothing fancy, and the hot dog was just a hot dog, but their bread is soooo good. Super fluffy fresh delicious bread - I'd eat that bread by itself. The egg tart was a little less sweet than anywhere else, but I kind of liked it that way - meant you could taste the egg more. Great crust, too. And seriously, you can't beat the price.

This place cons you with the price of stuff. Be careful I've gone here a few times and the prices are always different depending what time of day you go

Came here since Golden Gate bakery was closed. The egg tarts here were amazing, best I've had in the US. Also had the sponge cake which was delicious and not too sweet.

I had their egg tart and bbq bun. The tart was thick with egg filling. It wasn't overly sweet so I really like it. The bbq bun had the right amount filling and very tasty. Only $1.00 each. The weirdest thing they charge 1.50 for hot water. That's a bit much.

After trying a baked bbq pork bun from at least 15 places in SF since I've lived here can confidently say this is THE BEST PLACE TO GET THEM. Lots of tender well flavored meat, soft bread, etc. The ladies that work the counter are sweet and adorable!

Deserving of fewer stars but no stomach ache. By taste, this 蛋撻 more aptly described as a cornstarch tart with Yellow dye. my posted photo has Red twistie next to the lone egg tart in styrofoam container. advise: "If it don't look good (it did not), it likely won't taste good."

Cheap neighborhood Chinese bakery, I believe Cantonese. The ladies working there speak almost no English but communication wasn't a problem. Best thing about this place is that they open during normal hours and are NOT on vacation! Sorry, couldn't help myself.

BEST EGG TARTS EVER!!! Maybe I have weird taste.... but I like the egg tarts here better than the ones at Golden Gate Bakery and even in famous bakeries that I stopped by when I was visiting HK. The egg tarts here are warm, sweet, and pretty much just eggy goodness mmmmm. The pork buns are also really good and solid! I had some of their other breads (coconut bun, sponge cakes, other soft breads, etc), and they're all decent but nothing too amazing. Will definitely return for the egg tarts and pork buns. Probably doesn't need to be said, but this place is cash only.
