I showed up a few minutes late due to the rain for my volunteering appointment. This incredibly rude lady said I showed up late and proceeded to LIE to me that she sent out an email detailing I was supposed to arrive 15 minutes prior, so I couldn't do the orientation.
All in all, this encounter left me furious because this is NOT how you treat volunteers taking the time out of their day to help. I will be volunteering at a different animal shelter.

Shelly and the staff here are all dedicated and determined professionals. You can tell they care about all the animals and they know what they are doing and ready to help the best they can. Wonderful people who work really hard to not only help animals but people too. We can all help take care of keeping the stray population in control in Oconee County and the catch and release program here is professional and compassionate. Thank you!!

I was absolutely shocked at just how very rude the employees were to not only me but my child. Aside from that the animals looked deprived of attention. We were not allowed to to even touch the dogs. Only a very limited few was allowed to be looked at. It felt like death row and literally made me nauseated and emotional for these fur babies!! Never ever again will I return

My girlfriend and I have been volunteering here for four years. Every person on the staff cares so much about the animals and is very kind! We fostered a few dogs and eventually adopted one of them!

Everyone needs to adopt a pet instead of buying them. Buying animals promotes over breeding and God blessed us with all we need for free. Don't promote breeding. We have neighbors that inbreed little dogs and call that imperial line breeding. They sell the poor little things for over $1000. I'm sure the papers are fake because AKC will not recognize inbred dogs. Puppy mills are disgusting but I guess they have to sell 20 or month to support their lifestyle. All they have to have is papers on dogs they don't have and they can come up with all the AKC registered dogs you want. If you have papers you can register poodles as labradors. Papers don't mean anything.

A few weeks ago I drove over an hour out to Oconee bc they had GSD needing homes. I called the day before I headed up about the adult male I was really interested in. The staff was so kind and honest, they told me all the concerns with him and discouraged me from adopting him. They didn’t feel it would be a safe environment for him or us. I was so impressed with their honesty it gave me confidence to trust in their recommendations. They clearly cared a great deal for all their doggos.
Instead she told me they had a 9 mo GSD puppy if I was interested. So I drove out the next morning and I met “Zeus”. If I’m honest, it was not love at first sight. He was skin and bones, dirty, clumps and clumps of hair hanging all over him. As I sat in the room with him the only read I got on him was that he had a kind soul. So I offered to foster to adopt and I took a chance, we took a chance on each other. They did warn me that he was seized, traumatized, and had zero socialization. That’s a tough combo in a GSD. But I have a lot of experience with the breed and knew he would take someone special.
The first few weeks were rough and I mean rough. I almost gave up on him a couple times. He was truly just wild, skittish, fearful, mild aggression towards dogs… and I have 3 other dogs. But then I reached out to Dana and that one text changed everything. Immediately they put me in touch with Tess, the trainer & she listened to my endless concerns, gave me great advice, was so patient when I bothered her all weekend!! Dana was equally amazing, keeping in touch with me daily making sure I had all the resources I needed. They have done everything possible to ensure a positive outcome for Kylo and myself.
Now, I have a beautiful GSD boy who is 100% housebroken, plays ever so gentle with all the other dogs, loves to learn and knows several commands already, has ZERO aggression towards the other dogs and never had any aggression towards humans. We still have a ways to go but I can see the light, he desperately wants to be a good boy and please you, he just needed someone to show him how. He was not the type of dog you see and immediately fall in love with, he wasn’t that cute little puppy; but he is that forever love, the one that grows and grows in your heart. Now that he is finally just being a puppy & exploring, I can see his personality and he is such a clumsy goof, lol. And smart… he is one the smartest GSD I’ve owned if not the smartest. Mental stimulation is far more important to him than physical.
I have adopted and rescued many GSD before but never one as traumatized as he was. I refused to be another human who let him down. But this WOULD NOT have been possible without all the support from the Oconee Humane Society!! I have never worked with such an amazing group of people who truly care about the dogs in their care. So, look on their site for your next dog, MAKE THE DRIVE if you have to, trust me… you will not regret it!!
