I went in two weeks ago to get a pregnancy belt and just called to see if it's in yet because, you know it's been two week! My wife was forced to make a decision to come to work or not as Tropical Storm Michael was knocking down trees in our neighborhood. As a result of this storm we lost power for two days. The owner said to come to work or be fired. My wife said she could come in after it passes. He said no to that. He does not pay ANY benefits: no vacation time, no insurance... nothing! Workers that were not from areas being impacted as we were had already arrived at the office - it would have cost him nothing to let her wait until it was safe. We found out later trees were blocking the road on Hwy 261 and the other road out of our neighborhood. He said my wife had missed more time than any other employee - she missed 5 days in four months - 40 hours. She missed these days for immigration services and to visit a dying family member. This is true. The other ladies in the office leave three hours early each day, every day to get their kids. Leaving 3 hours early X 5 days a week, every week = 60 hours EACH month. My wife missed 40 hours in four months!
