Swiftel is by far the worst and most expensive internet (ONLY) provider for the Brookings area. Constant internet connectivity issues, more expensive then they should be, and old unreliable utilities. While competitors, like Midco, are charging the same price for up to 50 times faster and more reliable internet. You end up paying for thing you don't use like a non negotiable land line.

Forces everyone to pay for a landline with internet connection. Different forms of additional charges. Terrible billing system. Overcharges and messed up automatic payment system. Issues are not resolved quickly. I wish there was Verizon FIOS or Google Fiber in town.

Absolutely horrible service! Constantly cuts out and is very inconsistent. Brookings specializes in monopolies and leaving the consumer with limited and poor choices. If you have the choice, I would NOT recommend Swiftel Communications. Ever. To anyone.

Absolutely no one wants or needs a landline phone. Bunch of crooks for requiring it to get WiFi.

Internet service is very unreliable. Cuts on and off a lot. We need to do better than this.

Customer Service is indifferent. Internet lags. Even when a building didn't allow their company to have service in it, I got involved and helped resolve it. No thanks, no gratefulness.

Internet service is consistent and doesn't cut out like Mediacom does. Glad I switched.

I was charged 518.00 dollars for two months of internet. I am college student at SDSU and my scholarship doesn't come in the middle of month so they turned my account off. They then proceeded to tell me I needed to pay 225.00 for reconnection fee, all while I need internet because the campus is shutdown and my classes online. Thanks a bunches, you guys are real winners!

A monopoly ISP here in Brookings, SD so it charges double what other cities charge ($70 instead of $30 per month) under the disguise they give you a landline telephone that is unnecessary but you are required to get it in order to get internet. They tell you there are other local companies but that is a lie since the other company only deals with the outskirts of the city only. The company is also owned by Brookings Municipal Utilities a city non-profit which is a conflict of interest and why this scam is continuously ongoing.

I would love to be able to support smaller communications providers but unfortunately Swiftel leaves much to be desired, and they will nickel and dime you at every opportunity. Here’s how/why:

I've been a Swiftel customer for years. Tonight I called 24 hour support about possible outages in my area. After being cut off completely 3 times and on the 4th call the service was very broken, I was told, somebody would call me tomorrow (maybe) because I had already reset my router and that was all they could help me with. I don't need 24 hour support to reset the router I purchased from you.

When i ordered the 30Mbps package I was told there was an optional installation fee and opted out as I've worked in IT and know how to set up a router. Still, a technician was sent out to call in the order and I set it up. I received a $232 bill for the first month. Besides the nickel and dimeing order fees I received a $75 install fee. I called customer service and asked for the incorrect charge to be removed. Instead of removing the fee they adamantly argued that the installation fee is always mandatory and that I was confused. I said I wasn't comfortable paying the fee and was threatened with credit services. They bullied me into paying up and I immediately disconnected my service, racking up another $100 disconnect fee. The connection speed hovered around 25 Mbps but throttled down to just 15 Mbps with frequent disconnects in just 2 weeks! I had a more reliable connection with Mediacom and that's saying something. I ended up hotspotting data and while not optimal, it's miles better than the "service" provided. TL;DR Speed/Reliability is below average. Cost is insane, should be half the amount. Customer service is non-existent at Swiftel. If you have a different option than Swiftel/Mediacom in Brookings, take it.
