Service was good, but they seemed stretched even though it wasn’t crazy busy. Our server Leeann was still attentive and friendly. The ambiance is nice although it’s a smallish place. The reason for the low rating is the food. It’s terrible. Nothing has any flavor. We got walleye bites (literally just some cut up walleye) apparently seasoned with lemon pepper and a honey sauce but you would never know it. I got red pepper pasta for my entree and someone else got pasta primavera but we both had to add salt and pepper for any flavor. The veggies in the primavera did not appear fresh. I also asked for salmon in my red pepper pasta but got shrimp. Leeann caught it as soon as it came out and was willing to fix but I didn’t want to wait for a redo. The only redeeming food element was the fries that came with another person’s burger. For the price of the dishes here I definitely expected better quality and had high hopes for a nicer restaurant in Brookings, but unfortunately this seems to be lipstick on a pig. You can get better food at some of the bars.

Awful! Sat there for 20+ minutes without the servers even coming to greet us or take our orders. And it was not busy, the servers just decided to bus takes and stock the bar instead of waiting on tables. It was like they wanted to give bad service so they wouldn't have customers so they wouldn't have to work. Can't rate the food, because we left before we got any, because we didn't even want to know how long it would take to get that!

First time visit, the experience was good. It really enjoyed the food.Parking: We find a parking spot downtown so we changed where we were going to eat and came here. Parking was great.

Hard to be called an Alehouse with a limited selection of mostly light beers. Service was good, ambiance was good. But definitely not an Alehouse of any kind.

Hello I just had my wedding there and it was perfect! We had a few hiccups due to an old employee. The owners worked hard to fix everything and make it right! They were amazing to work with and we were able to figure out everything and make the night stress free and amazing! The only complaint I have was possibly have the buffet open a little longer incase people wanted to eat a little later in the night. It was an amazing night! Thank you Wilbert’s for making my night perfect!

this is Brookings hidden gem, locals don't know about it because it is behind Lowe's and Runnings on a weird back street. Ribeye was excellent. Sides were excellent. Pint craft IPAs were only $3 during happy hour!!! $6 for a double cocktail during happy hour. Restaurant was clean and the music was good. 5/5

I give it a one star. I ordered food to go for lunch at work and the person who answered the phone didnt feel like ge should honor my food because u didnt eat it right away. I say i will never be in that establishment again. Seems you must eat your food upon ordering for it to be good. Next

I can't recommend this place highly enough and I consider myself kind of picky. I went in for dinner (not through the event center) and it checks all the boxes. The atmosphere was fantastic, everything was very clean, the menu impressed with both its variety and creativity, the service was outstanding, and the prices were very reasonable. It wasn't as busy as I expected on a Friday night, especially with the NAIA Track and Field Championships going on at the university, so I asked the server about that and he mentioned the place was under new management, so if you have sworn the place off before, you should definitely get back there and try it again.- Eric Trettel

Nice venue. Delicious food! We worked with some really great people in service of our event. Great to have a place like this in Brookings!

I am not one to leave a bad review, but this was THE WORST service I could possibly imagine. Absolute nightmare. The person in charge of the event venue was unresponsive, rude and disrespectful. I would not recommend this venue to anyone. From setup the evening before to the end of the event, the experience was absolutely miserable. We did not get what we paid for.List of issues:Microphone never worked;Had to ask the bartender at the neighboring bar for assistance locating cords necessary to make the projector work as none were provided (she was SUPER helpful and kind, but understandably frustrated as this is NOT her job);Event manager ignored calls;Internet password was never provided, though requested multiple times, and I had to run our webinar off my phone's hotspot;Beverage service not provided until several hours after when it was supposed to have been there; Event manager accused us of not paying the deposit, despite confirming it was received several weeks prior via email, and required me to contact our bank to get a copy of the cashed check;Food was terrible;Staff was rude - when mentioning that drinks weren't out until almost 4 hours after they were scheduled to be out, was told "well, they are there now; what's the problem?"Speaker was interrupted by event manager dropping off a bill for "immediate" payment; was informed "we need payment before I leave for the day day" and "I am leaving soon";Staff was loud in the kitchen area and EVERYTHING they said was heard by our meeting group and interrupted our presenters;NO event staff was present the night before during set up or even the morning of the event. When we called the event manager the morning of the event, was informed "I don't work until 10:00." If an event begins at 7:30 a.m., that is not acceptable. In short, the venue has potential, but until they get some competent staff I would not wish this venue and all it's issues on my worst enemy.

Service is slow. Plan for an extra 30-40mins for an average meal. Not due to lack of employees like the conveniently placed plaques that plaster the confusing decor but due to what seems like a lack of training. The bartender is careless in his attempt to get drinks out. There's no drink menus at the tables and staff is unsure what they sell. There's other support staff clearly in the restaurant but they are not delivering orders, bussing tables, or delivering food regularly. It's almost as if no one really has any idea what they are doing. Management/ Ownership is lacking in attention to the issue if their idea is to inform guests to deal with slow service. The staff was nice and our waitress was trying really hard but clearly has no support. Food presentation was very nice and the quality of the food was pretty high which reflects the 3 Star. This place has potential especially with the hotel being attached but they really need to step it up for the price point of this restaurant.

My son had reception/dance here. Food was delicious (steak and walleye) and staff did great job. Large banquet hall. Clean.

Nope. Just nope. No, no, no.Bad service, cold food, hot room, no ownership of their shortcomings whatsoever. Save yourself the headache. Would be a zero if possible.

At this time, I would not recommend Wilbert Square Event Center. They certainly have potential to be a nice venue, but I would avoid at all costs until some changes have been implemented. What you can expect if your experience is anything like ours, or many of the previous reviewers: The event coordinator will not attend your event so you are on your own if you need anything the day of the event. The venue floor was filthy dirty with food from a previous event, but they asked us to decorate over it and they would clean later. They didn't, so our wedding guests helped my ex husband clean the venue the day of the wedding. The food was as cold as it would have been taking it straight out of the refrigerator and the pasta was not cooked well (hard and sticky). At least 75% of our guests were served cold food. We were overcharged multiple thousands of dollars, then told that the corrected invoice (after requesting the invoice three times over 10 days and not receiving it) was offering us a "steep discount" despite our contract showing otherwise. The door frame fell off the wall part-way through the event and landed on a small child. It had been glued onto the wall with caulk. The venue was extremely hot during our reception, and no one was around to help us regulate the temperature. The tables still contained dirty plates of food, beer bottles, glasses and dirty linens the following day (some was bussed the night of, but much of it was left and even though we have photographs to corroborate, they didn't believe us). When we brought all of these issues forward after the event, we were given every excuse under the sun, the event coordinator told us her staff was using us to "sabotage her" and the owners didn't believe any of our legitimate concerns (again, as noted, the event coordinator was not on site for any of the event to dispute or corroborate our concerns). We asked for a discount for the extremely poor service and terrible food quality as their end of the contract was to provide a comfortable clean venue and hot food. They refused to refund any of our money claiming they already gave us a "steep discount" (a corrected invoice from the overcharge and they did not make us pay a gratuity). You can DEFINITELY find a better venue.
