If you literally do nothing else with your life GO TO THIS PARK. GORGEOUS! You can just sit on the edge of the lake and your life will be complete. Take a book, take a drink, take a coat if you go in December like I did. You will barely notice the cold because you will be blown away by its beauty. Take a walk around the lake. There are hikes nearby. There's a hike that goes to a fire tower that looks amazing. Take water and trail mix...and a coat if you go in December like I did. Lol! Just go and make something of your life. Thank me in the comments:)

We didn't stay overnight, but we ate lunch in the dining room and visited the gift shop. Nice selection of food on the buffet; we especially liked the bison stew and pot roast.

We had lunch at the game lodge, we enjoyed their buffet which was very good! This is a beautiful place to visit, if you haven't been here yet, put it on your list! You won't be disappointed!Nearby activities: This lodge is located within custer State Park. The park is 71,000 acres of remarkable scenery and wildlife. It must be one of the top five state parks in the country. A must see!Noteworthy details: The lodge was built in the 20s, and features mountain style craftsmanship. Lots of beautiful rock work and wooden architecture. Presidents have stayed here, albeit a long time ago!

We really enjoyed the State Game Lodge. The staff were cordial and helpful with questions about the park, and helpful with any other request we had. The restaurant was particularly good with a good staff and excellent food. We stayed in the old original part of the lodge and liked our room, however we like historic places and the room certainly felt that way. If someone likes things that feel more modern, maybe the newer part would be a better choice. We would stay again, and would recommend it.

The exterior is charming BUT don’t be fooled, the rooms are substandard. Our room in the lodge was pathetic. Photos say it all. The managers should consider staying in these rooms to realize how poorly appointed and ramshackle it feels for a guest. The room was $250 per night, off season and the front desk makes you feel as If it’s a problem to help or accommodate in any way. So disappointing

Old frontier charm at hotel. Beautiful landscape surrounds hotel. Evening dinner leans to the wild side. I had elk and wife had bison; lean meat for sure. Good wine list. Great waiter. Good night sleep in adequate room.

The Lodge rooms need some updating, but the restaurant and bar were great! We want to thank Kira, one of the bartenders, for her bartending skills and fun conversations. We enjoyed our week surrounded by some of the most stunning scenery in the world.

We came to the State Game Lodge for the annual Buffalo Roundup and stayed 4 night. Our first stop was the Lodge BAR. Kira, our bartender, was the best. So personable & accommodating. We will be back.

Stayed for 5 nights in the newer portion of the lodge - more motel style rooms. Clean, comfortable and well maintained. No room service which we appreciated and was able to call to have garbage picked up and towels exchanged promptly. There is a lovely outdoor seating area but lots of bees at that time of year so unable to sit there, though we tried. Our room was on the second floor facing the street which we loved as there were many animals on the front lawn at different times of the day. Windows open with screens which was great to get the wonderful fresh air. The only unfortunate thing was that the person at the front desk who checked us in and was there most afternoons and sometimes first thing in the morning was not very friendly. Her attitude was one that guests were a big bother to her. We were not the only ones who felt that way. While she did her job, she definitely should not be the face of such a wonderful lodge or park for that matter. She is likely not there at this point as she was on a work visa and most of that staff has left, she should not be brought back (was told that this was not her first season). Very surprised that management would take someone like that to be not only on staff but the face of a front desk. The full time lady during the day is very nice, knowledgeable and helpful. I did send a follow up email to the general manager. That being said we absolutely loved our stay and look forward to returning.

Would not recommend for older people. Lots of steps. Rooms are not serviced daily. Pretty pricey for what you get.

Lady in safari jeep asked us to leave private camp ground. That part is fine but to threaten us saying the state is going to get us when we leave is wrong. If you aren’t aloud to drive the roads in Custer state park maybe consider moving your campground elsewhere. Awful service and don’t recommend the jeep safari ride. Saw plenary of Bison without their help.

Did not stay on grounds. Went for jeep safari. Guide was excellent. Before we even got in, a heard of prong horned sheep were passing through grounds and parking lot. First place guide looked for Buffalo he found a heard of 200! He drove us into the heard and we followed along for half hour to 45 min. AWESOME! That alone was worth the admission price. Then, as if that wasn't enough, he found us Prarie Dogs, prong horned sheep AND Buffalo together in one valley. That's why I always go with a guide.

Our third stay here, 2nd in a cabin. Love the park, many interesting things to do locally, great trail ride at the stable, good meals at the lodge, lots of people on site, wildlife to further make the experience special. Housekeeping on demand, linen as requested, ice only at the main lodge, cabin in good shape.

We had a wonderful dinner at the dining room at the State Game Lodge. The food was delicious, but the best part was our server, Leigh from Nottingham, England! He was a pure delight and made our dinner all the more perfect! The elk ravioli, as well as the elk osso bucco, was scrumptious!

We ate at the State Game Lodge while staying in Custer State Park. This is a historic lodge/restaurant that was once used as Pres. Calvin Coolidge's summer white house. We were served by a waiter named Doc who was great. We split the Elk Ravioli with a parmesan sauce, these were divine! Next up we each had our own side Beet Salad, also fantastic. We finished with the Walleye which was in a light sauce and came with a couple delicious sides. We felt full but not stuffed. There is a nice wine list. Doc knew a bit about the history of the lodge and restaurant and shared some info but not too much. All in all this was a fantastic dining experience.
