It's a nice place, there are some odd choices they made. For example in the room, the hand soap in the bathroom is fixed to the wall, im ok with this but it's so high up young kids can't reach it. The pool is very odd, the steps are huge. There is a neat water fall feature behind the hotel, but really cheap looking crooked landscape lights that diminish it's view.
The staff were super friendly, id consider staying here again if in custer.

We spent 2 nights here. Everyone we encountered was helpful and kind. By far the best part was seeing James with his dog. Every hotel should have a dog! His dog is so well behaved you didn't even know it was there. Kudos to Holiday Inn for allowing this gentleman to have his companion on the night shift!

Rotten milk was served for breakfast and my son drank it. I spoke to the staff, but they just said they didn't know what was going on and no action was taken. The staff was very unfriendly and even when they ran out of food for breakfast, they didn't make any more food. We could only eat one egg for breakfast.

So I do my share of traveling for work and person. This Holiday Inn Express is just got it together. More comfortable, AC is already on and the right temperature. Breakfast was good, check in and out was fast, place is well kept. When I am in with 60 miles of this location working, I am staying here.......
Nice work!

This was our 4th stop on a family road trip. This was our main stop and stayed here for 3 nights total.
Cons-
*The first front desk lady wasn't exactly polite, but more snippy -which I found odd.
* This a a BIG complaint- we paid extra for a balcony with a view- that we couldn't use at all due to all the fumes! There are night lamps and a fire table that( I assume) are all fueled by propane- I can't say for certain what caused the fumes on our balcony that later also ended up in our room. We got headaches and asthma issues and my daughter had a mini panic attack when she walked into our room the fumes overwhelmed her and she wanted to call the fire department for the leak. We had spoken with the front desk once over this and they said they would have maintenance check it out we never heard back. He did say that there was something on the side of the building that could cause it - but we think it was table/lights. Maybe somebody didn't close a valve right or something??? I have no idea what caused it but it was a real issue.
* View on the balcony overlooked the dumpster- not a big deal when it's emptied - but the first day it was full. Also didn't affect us due to the fumes that kept us from using it- but you may want to request a room that doesn't have a view of the dumpster.
* Breakfast- oh my- there was always a bin not being used( never seen that at any other ihg) the food was always running out. On one day I think the breakfast bar attendant was working all alone on a very busy morning. Out of my 7 hotel stops this breakfast was by far the worst- not blaming the staff- she was working very hard the entire time!!!
Pros-
*The room was extremely clean - great job done by housekeeping!!!!! We checked thoroughly and this was a very clean room.
* There was always a luggage cart available and fresh coffee available. Both are much appreciated while taking a long road trip.
* The location is perfect - we saw Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Wildlife Loop at Custer State Park and had an amazing dinner at Big Thunder Bar & Grill after taking a Gold Mine tour. So much to do within a 20-mile radius. You can beat the location.
Adding a side note here for anyone who is taking the time to read these reviews. I wish I had thoroughly read all the negative reviews on this hotel before I booked because after the fact looking through. I can see where general management never responds or makes any attempt to say they will try to fix or work on that. My breathing/asthma has affected the rest of my trip since we left this hotel. It would be nice to know that somebody is working on fumes that get into the balcony rooms.

Only complaint was handicap accessible room was on 3rd floor. Would have been very difficult for husband to manuever stairs in an emergency.
Nearby activities: Close to Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse monument.

Rooms: Our room on 2nd floor was clean, smelled nice. The tub/shower was large, newer and clean Good water pressure.
The pillows(4 on each bed) had the pillow case stating “Firm” “soft”… coffee was pods, large enough fridge, not no freezer.
Food & drinks: Right across the street is a local small restaurant/bar. We got there 15 before closing and she was so kind to say that they weren’t seating anyone else but to-go was available. We ordered Delicious French Dip with LOTS of meat and 1/3 lb bacon burger.
Noteworthy details: The breakfast is free. Regular hotel bfast stuff, but people were very nice- beautiful scenery with large, sunny windows in dining area.

Worst Service I ever realized. Today the service lady at the breakfast area refused to have a micro wave to heat some milk, what her colleague the day before did with a smile. She said we do not have a microwave. Not very customer focused.
The male employee at the reception was also very unfriendly and not polite when asking for the manager. A behavior which is conpletely unacceptable of a hotel employee towards guests. We will not come back.
Sorry for the team the day before which was very friendly and very customer- focused.

This place is an excellent place to be. Right where everything you need. Service is very good, the front desk woman goes above and beyond and is very informative ? ? I totally appreciate that in a person that is helping others.

Excellent hotel, all around. Staff was perfect, pool was great for the kids, we did wish the pool was a few degrees warmer.
The fan in our bathroom was disconnected or broken Room #323, so it was a steamy mess in there the 2 days we stayed.

We stayed here on our way back home and went to see some of thee local sites. James greeted us on arrival and was extremely welcoming and helpful. The elevator was put and he was able to move us to the 1st floor and offered to help bring the bags up if he couldn't. It was clean and the rooms were nice. Water pressure in the shower was not so great but overall great stay. Definitely go see Crazy Horse while here.
Nearby activities: Down the road there are some good food options and some cute shops that are probably super awesome in the season. We were here in early March so it was still winter weather.
