Pretty sad when one walks in the place and one of the delivery drivers who used to talk to me says I'm leaving like he hates my guts and I have no idea what I ever did to make him feel that way. His last name starts with an S. Won't be returning to this store

Walked in to this make shift hole in the wall auto parts store. Two people working and two customers at the front counter being helped. One customer in the farthest isle away from the counter. I stand waiting to be helped as one worker the older gentleman finished up with a lady, I stepped forward to be helped seeing as I was next in line. The worker decided he knew the guy in the farthest isle from the counter and asked him how he was doing by name. So then that customer finally came to the counter and they proceeded to chat like I wasn’t even there waiting to be helped. I needed oil and an oil filter I could have been on my way in 5 mins if the guy would have just helped me since I was at the counter. To sum it all up here, if you’re a local there then you will be helped right away. If your not then better luck next time, just save yourself the hassle and buy it somewhere else!

The staff here is as helpful as any in the area and more knowledgeable than most large chain stores is locally owned by the owner of the Napa in Brookings and the gentleman is quite nice it's a pleasure to be able to do business with this store and their prices are quite competitive and their part quality is very high.

Very nice place. Steve and all the guys there are very helpful and knowledgeable and if they don’t have what you’re looking for in the store they will go find it. They also make hydraulic hoses and they deliver. A small store but a lot to offer. Definitely worth the trip.

I want to think NAPA employee Eric of the Hartford SD auto parts store. It was the beginning of the -40+ wind chill warning; I was visiting a truck stop in Hartford when I had an airline break from the cold. I am a truck driver (owner operated), so I called for road side assistance that caters to big rigs. I called Allied, Delta, and Pilot/Flying J none of which would come to my aid. They said it was too cold for them to come out. Who would have thought that a NAPA auto parts store would be more than willing to help? Eric, took my order for a new airline over the phone and delivered it to me. The airline wouldn’t fit, so I called NAPA to ask if they had any idea on how to help. Eric, drove back out, realized what needed to be done, and he took the airline back to his shop to adjust it for my truck. He brought the finished product and made sure that I was able to fit it securely before he left.Thank you, NAPA. Thank you Eric. You helped me out when no one else would. I won’t forget this.

My wife and I were stranded in this small town after I pulled into a gas station to fill my truck with diesel fuel. Without thinking I grabbed the 'green' handle and before I realized it, put 14 gallons of unleaded into my diesel tank. I knew better than to start the truck. The cashier told my wife that this happens all the time and the owner doesn't want to change it. She was a super nice lady who tried to find a pump service but it was late in the day and they were all busy until tomorrow. I put my MacGyver head on and asked if there was an auto parts store in town. The cashier said yes, NAPA, and pointed us in the right direction. I pulled my motorcycle out of the trailer we were hauling and we took a ride to NAPA to buy some gas cans and a rubber syphon hose. Steve was on the phone helping a customer. My wife and I grab the only fuel can we saw and waited for Steve to finish his call. I told him what happened and he named a few service garages that could help. Told him I had contacted them and no one could get to it until tomorrow. I told him my plan was to buy about 5 fuel cans and some fuel hose. He said he might have a better idea and then called one of the garages. He arranged for us to pick up an empty 55 gallon drum and told us to use his truck... the keys were in it. I was stunned... first off a stranger helping strangers? Second... who leaves keys in a vehicle anymore? I suddenly remembered a time long ago when such things were the norm. But I digress... Steve sold us the can and 10' of rubber fuel line. It was already close to 6pm and stated that this was probably going to take a few hours. He said don't worry about it, he had things to do there anyway after they closed. I gave him my cell number in case he needed his truck before then. As we pulled into the parking lot of the garage to fetch the drum, the mechanic stopped what he was doing and graciously helped us load it with some friendly advice. He told me to get most of the gas out and then fill my truck with the bio-diesel (Black handle at this station) which has natural lubrication from the soy oil. My plan was to siphon the gas out of the truck into the new 5 gallon can and then dump the small can into the drum still sitting on the NAPA truck. A good plan BUT the new fuel hose was not stiff enough to make a bend in my truck's filler neck. I called Steve and asked if they carried a stiffer hose. He had some hydraulic hose that he would lend me. My wife took his truck back and fetched the other hose. The hydraulic hose worked and so did the plan. As we were siphoning, a diesel pickup pulled into the lane next to me. The guy grab the green handle and before he put it in his truck I stopped him. Of course he was very thankful and said "I thought all green handles were diesel." We finished in about an hour and my truck ran fine! We dropped the drum off and thanked the garage mechanic, asking what I owed him. He wouldn't take dime so I offered the hydraulic hose, which he did take. We returned Steve's truck and settled up with our hose bill. I even tried to give him some cash for his time and effort but he wouldn't take it. I'm grateful that there still are honest, caring, decent people and businesses in this world like Steve, the mechanic, the cashier, and NAPA, all willing to go out of their way to help others. I'm also optimistic that someday we can once again leave the keys in our vehicles and that ALL diesel pump handles turn green!
