About Kennebec KOA Journey
Kennebec KOA Journey is a quiet and friendly campground located in small-town South Dakota, making it a great stop for travelers heading to the Black Hills, Yellowstone, or the Badlands. Established as the first KOA in South Dakota in 1970, it offers a peaceful place to relax, rest, and recharge. The campground features spacious, flat pull-thru RV sites with full hookups, good water pressure, and taste, making it convenient for RV travelers. Despite being a smaller KOA with fewer amenities, it provides clean bathrooms and showers with hot water, and a dog-friendly area, all maintained with attention to detail. Management ensures privacy by staggering campers across the grounds, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere. Guests appreciate the friendly staff and the simplicity of the site, which is ideal for those seeking a safe, comfortable place to sleep after a day of travel. The grounds are well manicured, and the quiet environment allows for a relaxing stay. While Wi-Fi may be weak, cellular signals are sufficient for hotspot use, and over-the-air TV channels are plentiful. Visitors have enjoyed the peaceful setting, cleanliness, and affordability, often choosing Kennebec KOA as a convenient stopover on their journey. Overall, it is a reliable, clean, and friendly campground that offers a good balance of comfort and simplicity, making it highly recommended for travelers passing through the area.

Wonderful campground and helpful friendly staff. Sites are level and long. Some trees and moderate space between sites. Easy to get to from the freeway and fairly quiet.
