We just stopped by to check it out and the first thing I noticed was how clean and tidy it was. The staff was very helpful and easy to talk with. We didn't look at the cabins but I'm pretty sure they're fine. They rent snowmobiles.

We were on an UTV trip last week. We were riding down to see Cement Ridge Fire lookout. On the way there, one of our vehicle's engine temp got hot. We stopped at Trailshead to see if we could borrow a hose to clean out the radiator. The owner told us "NO!". He said if the radiator is plugged, then that meant we were riding through mud which "tears up the forest and we don't condone that". While he was berating us about our LEGAL riding activities, the rest of our group was inside buying snacks from his store-clueless to the interaction that just took place outside. When they came and we informed them, they were obviously upset they just spent money to support some j*** who could careless if we ended up stranded on the highway. Again, the mudding we did was riding through marked trails and is 100% legal. This guy shouldn't own a business if he is going to treat people like this, let alone paying customers.Thankfully, we traveled down the road to the Buckhorn Bar and Grill in Wyoming where the folks there went out of their way to assist us with using their hose to clean out our radiator. They also had great service, were extremely friendly and the food was amazing. If you have an emergency with a UTV, you're better off sitting on the road and asking for help from a passerby than you are stopping at this "Black Hills Business". Trailshead Lodge should either get new ownership or close if this is how they treat UTV riders.

This was the perfect respite for my cooped up kids. Lots of space and it backs up to the black hills forest so we were able to see some deer. Everyone in the main building (where check in and the restaurant is) was very friendly and helpful and the young son even asked if my 11 year old wanted to play basketball after her ate so that was a HUGE bonus after 7 hours on the road (YES! GO OUTSIDE! DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN POKE YOUR SISTER!)We really enjoyed our stay there and I think we were the only ones in the cabins so it was QUIET.

RENTER BEWARE: before renting, ask yourself “what would happen if I get into an accident and total this sled?” The answer is not clearly stated in the contract so let me explain. Unfortunately, we had a guy in in our group do just that on 3/17/23, ran into a tree. No one’s fault but his own and luckily he walked away unhurt. We were fortunately able to ride the sled back to the lodge where Todd, the owner, not only took his $3000 deposit but demanded another $10, 000. He stated that that’s what it would cost to replace the sled plus the lost rental revenue. However, bear in mind that the sled is a 2021 Polaris Indy 550, $8500ish brand new and it was 2 weeks until the end of the riding season. Here’s the biggest kicker, less than a week later, they post on Facebook that they’re selling their entire fleet of Polaris Indy 550 sleds for $3500/each. Case in point, they swindled our guy out of $13, 000 knowing they were going to sell the sleds 2 weeks later for $3500. Completely understandable that our guy should have paid the fair price of $3500, but $13, 000?! You’d also think at this point he’d technically own the sled and be able to take it home, nope, not the case. Todd refused this option and stated “they aren’t for sale”. Contract or not, this was not the honest thing to do for a guy that has been renting sleds from Trailshead for years. The last thing we wanted was to wreck their sled but accidents can and do happen. If you end up renting here, just be sure you have $13, 000+ set aside should the worst happen.

These people are complete con artists. 2 years ago they they "said" a $35 aluminum bar on the back of one of sleds we rented was bent. Nobody hit anything and nothing was noticed until "after" we turned in the sled. They wanted to charge us $275 to fix and it was about 4 bolts to replace. This year they totally screwed my son, as they are saying a small part is going to take 3 days to get so they can't rent the sled for 3 days so charging a poor college kid with no money over $1000 for $125 part. DO NOT RENT a from these people. Find another company or do something else. Scam artists. Period. Disgraceful.
